UI Question: How to select marker when it coexists with a region
Thanks John, that of course is what I call a brute force method. The marker is not a problem marker, it is where I want it. For a music shoot I use markers to tag and to 'name' the individual songs. When putting together a video I use regions for selecting individual clips. At one point I have the marker and the region in sync but I want to access the marker 'name' and copy to the region name. I suppose it is just a limitation of the UI. Word and CAD programs frequently have objects and markers stacked over each other and they normally have a way to cycle through the selections to get the object you desire. Usually a control key or tab key to cycle through possible objects under the pointer.

Using ShuttlePro with Vegas Pro 16
Guys, all the procedures above are dancing around the simple procedure to read in a new set of shuttle preferences that are delivered with each new release. Refer to your Shuttle pro man pages. 1. Open the Shuttle control panel 2. Select "Import settings" from the 'Options' dropdown. 3. Navigate to the "/ProgramFiles/VEGAS/VEGAS PRO 16.0/VEGAS Pro 16 -- ShuttlePRO v2.pref" (or other file) 4. Click 'OPEN' 5. BE SURE TO CLICK 'APPLY' 6. Close Shuttle control panel Done! - Don't forget to import the settings for your Sony Video Capture executable too. The .pref file for that is also in the VEGAS Pro 16.0 folder. You have to do this with each new release as the Shuttle executable has no way to know a new version of VEGAS has been installed.

NewBlue Titler products on VP14
No, i see mention of a 160926, but I don't have a link to that version. It wasn't clear to me that others had or were seeing the same issue I see. Does the 'Express' version not have the title designer window?

NewBlue Titler products on VP14
I do not have the Pro Express product installed. I removed all NewBlue products and installed VP14 without Pro Express component and then installed the TP4 versions. My new blue account manager shows the express component as not installed. Is there some special procedure when you say 'remove Titler Express' other than the normal uninstall process.

NewBlue Titler products on VP14
Is there anyone successfully using Titler Pro 4 with VP14? I have tried several beta versions supplied by NewBlue support, but they all have the same problem. They start in Quick Edit mode and I can't find a way to get to the title designer. The only change I am allowed to make is to select a preset template and change the text. I can't even adjust colors or anything. Am I the only one seeing this issue? (I've used 160928 and 161027) I don't have links to any other versions.

Thanks Johnny, That did it. Set all users to admin privilege. Re-installed for each user saying 'no' to the uninstall option. Then reset the users to their 'standard' privilege level. All Okay. Thanks

Video Cataloging Software
Been using Daminion to catalog all my media. Main point for me was that it edits the metadata directly, or indirectly thru the .xmp sidecar files. Tag data is not kept in the catalog. I can rearrange folders all I want and not upset the catalog data. All the catalog tags are kept either directly in the media file metadata, or the .xmp sidecar file. I can also keep as many distinct catalogs as I want. I normally catalog each year separately to keep the size down. (About 7 - 9 K items per year). Drag an drop right onto timeline is great. My need though is to isolate sub clips within a piece of media and apply tags at that level. Forces me to use trimmer to create sub-clips that I can use with the media manager for a single project. Alternative is to try to split my media files at the time of import - total pain.

Issue with AVC Files and missing audio data
Okay. I am not getting the answers I am looking for. I have used the AVCHD camera for a more than a year now, and yes, Device Explorer gets it right. To answer Peter, I do look at the video and I have not seen any dropped frames from this camera when Device Explorer or PlayMemoryHome brings in spanned clips. And yes I have looked carefully. at more than one clip. The video frames brought in separately, and from DeviceExplorer, match up one to one in every case that I have examined. I have not seen the video loss that Peter is talking about (yet). Anyway, I don't understand how the video Codec and long GOP has anything to do with the audio data which is encoded separately in a separate stream. My initial question remains unanswered and is only concerned with the audio data. My point to this thread was about the audio data loss, because I would like to use Catalyst Prepare/Browse for initial ingest, but it seems to not be possible. I have started this thread in that forum, but very few people are reading that forum so far. I will wait for someone to answer this in that forum.

Re: "Was hoping someone had an explanation" I was referring to why Vegas Pro does not import all the audio data from the file. I do understand why the clip is broken into 2GB segments. The audio data IS IN THE FILE. otherwise PlayMemoryHome and DeviceExplorer could not get the data when it joins the files together. But when Vegas imports each individual file segment there is a noticeable audio data loss at the end of each segment. I measure between 0.48 and 0.49 seconds of lost audio.

Both PlayMemoriesHome and DeviceExplorer work perfectly well and do concatenate the 2GB segmented clips just fine. I was trying to use a new workflow based on Catalyst Prepare/Browse and cannot get either of them to recognize these are continuous clips. Both Prepare and Browse treat them individually and there is a significant loss of audio data at each clip junction point. Was hoping someone had an explanation of why this is happening. Obviously the data IS IN THE FILES, otherwise PMH and DeviceExplorer would be failing too!

Audio hardware you use.
my field recorder is Zoom H4. (old), in addition to the camera tracks. Direct file transfer from SD cards to computer. my full house mixer/recorder is in a rolling chassis and consists of a Motu 896 mk III, a Behringer DEQ 2496, a laptop and a Zoom R16. Primary recorder is my laptop, from the Motu 896. Backup recorder is a Zoom R16 also fed by the Motu 896. This gives me 8 analog in/out and 16 more ADAT in/out plus a Real Time Analyzer feature. I use the ASIO driver provided by MOTU. For most vegas editting i'm just using the main PC outputs. I connect to the rolling chassis for more precise audio work.

Quicktime installation problems.
Thanks for the advice. Problem was resolved by complete uninstall and re-install of all Sony products. Cleaning the registry, the AppData Folders and the Program Files folders. We are back in business.

OT: Need a new Camcorder
Paul, I checked your link, and it says that you compared a CX-710 to the X920, not a CX-760. I have the CX and love it for low light. The 760 has a Zeiss lens, not a Sony lens. No sign of chromatic aberration in my video or stills. (The CX-760 is out of production, replaced by the PJ-790, don't know if there is a CX-790). PJ series is same as CX, but has the builtin projector.

Streaming and Audio System Poll
1) Have Windows Home Server as main streaming device, plus individual devices do DLNA between each other. GB wired ethernet + dual 300 Wifi 2. Onkyo 717 Rcvr/Amp with Yamaha surround speakers and 15" CV sub. Sony Blu Ray for main house. 3. JVC 7.1 Amp with small near field speakers, small sub, for edit studio. Normally just a logitech computer speaker setup, or a JBL 3215 monitor system for stereo monitoring. I have a CX-760 camera that can record 5.1, but I almost always use it in simple 2 channel mode. When I did do 5.1 output it was only for mixing the sound stage around the room, using single and dual channel tracks.

GPU specifications vs Vegas Performance

Heres my data with GPU OFF in the preferences->video menu. Preview (Best Full) 1.8 fps Solid 29.97 at Preview Qtr XDCAM Render 243 sec, CPU 80%, GPU <5% AVC/AAC Render 251 sec, CPU 98%, GPU <5% For Previewing I selected a 30 second region starting at 25 sec and watched it multiple times, watching to see how low the fps reading was. This seems to be more consistent as the image data is cached in memory rather than read from disk.

How to...multi camera and multitrack audio?
We have been considering something similar for a local theatre that is doing lots of live music and theatrical productions. I would check out the Black Magic TV Studio ATEM as a low cost alternative to the others mentioned. You will supply your PC for the control application, but the rest of the basic hardware is in the ATEM unit.

Zoom R16 Multi-track Recorder:Interface:Controller
I used one as a control surface in Version 9 or 10, it did not work in version11, and I have not tried to use one as a control surface with Version 12. In Version 11, the system would crash the minute you turned on the Midi connection. (Follow the instructions for a generic control). Short story, works with Version 9/10, but does not work with Version 11. Can't say about 12 yet.
