SOT - Windows 10 not free anymore... did you go 10
Hello, 2 different point of views here : - 7 (or 8) is working perfectly, why should I upgrade ! and - or - no time to loose. - Using 10 - then fresh install, minor or no problem. Both are good choices just because we all have different needs. I upgraded to win 10, and did a fresh install. Now, I just upgraded to 10 redstone, and installed linux bash compatibility, just because my main Os is Linux, not Windows. Vegas pro 13, Dvd Architect pro 6 and the 5 other software I use under 10 are all working. I had to get used to Xp when moving from 98, then getting used to 7, Xp was running fine and I enjoyed it. I know how to tune 10 because I'm using it since 08/2015. Next year (2017), I'll move to redstone wave2, just because I do hope Windows will increase it's Linux compatibility. Apple moved from Mac Os 9 to Osx, based on freebsd, a linux cousin, in 1999, because they know the unix architecture is better than Os9. It's bash is very similar to Linux. Windows 10 (they'll keep this number) is moving slowly towards linux, unix, or a cousin of unix, just because Microsoft knows it's actual base is not good - why should they have added bash ubuntu support with redstone if they think windows is the best ! Think of "secure boot" ! At that time, Microsoft did a "linux blackout", and today, compatibility is there... Of course, you can avoid redstone and forget linux commands. But if you are curious and ready to understand how linux operates, you'll be ready for the Microsoft's future. This is my point of view, I do not pretend to be right - so many things I do not know. But this is a forum, I'm only sharing my point of view.

Ok waaag, I tried displaycal under Windows with a spyder 2 : you are right you must install firmware. This step is automatic upon first launch under Linux. Displaycal is easier under Linux for those 2 steps (Argyll and spyder firmware) but the same for all other functions. Most of the time, I use Blender for my videos as my main NLE, I now only use Vegas pro 13 from time to time. And up to now, for me, Linux is faster than Windows. This is why I only use Windows ... for Vegas pro ! Didier

wwaag, no need to insert the original spyder cd to use dispalycal and a spyder sensor ! Argyll cms and spyder drivers are 2 different things. Under Linux, no need to download argyll as displaycal installation automatically installs argylcms Simply connect your spyder sensor and displaycal will also automatically download the sensor firmware ! You can also use the menu tools -> import colorimeter something (I'm using the french version ...) if you want to switch to another sensor This is much easier than before ! displaycal is really easy nowadays, but you still need to know what you are doing. The spyder sensor is the same - only the spyder software changes. If you only have one monitor connected on your computer -> Spyder express is OK If 2 monitors are connected : spyder express + displaycal OR If 2 monitors are connected : spyder pro or elite and you can forget displaycal

Best Screen Calibration Methods?
DisplayCal is another freeware, but as mentioned by musicvid10, you have to know what you are doing. Color management is all but simple. http://displaycal.net/ You can buy for example a spyder pro express, and use it with this software to calibrate all your monitors. The spyder express software will only apply resulting calibration on ONE monitor !

My Sony Vegas 3D Nightmare
Hello, I'm a french user, I alos use Vegas 13 and Nvidia 3D vision with YOUR panasonic camera. It does work. First, I assume you can display a 3D picture with Stereo photo maker ( using F8 ) (you have setup the page flip option to 3D vision, screen size.) Now, Vegas Pro : Your project properties is set to Side by side - full You must see only one video track. If not, start from scratch and re import your 3D movie. Only one video track on the timeline ! Now, menu Options -> Properties : Preview tab : Left Right Vidéo tab : Left only (right only if you prefer) Simply hit the blue icon ( a monitor) to display your video with Nvidia 3D vision. I'm running Windows10, but, that was working under Seven ! Hope this helps ! Didier.

@ Stringer What would be the real world advantage, in Vegas or any other non-enterprise environment, for having faster disk I/O than what can be had Same answer for me with a PCiE SSD compared to a Serial ATA SSD : CoachShane wants to render his videos as fast as possible ! for sure, this kind of drive will help him. @ john_dennis Today, you can boot Linux and Win 10 with this kind of harddrive. The best rendering PC...what would you have?
Today, I would certainly not use any SSD : they are slow compared to PCIE "discs" Search for Ocz Storage Solutions - RevoDrives for example - there are many other brands on the market. They are more expensive than ssd's, but 3 to 5 times faster. If you can afford, it's the fastest storage solution. My french web links are unuseful for you. The best : could you ask for a demo with your retailer ! just to understand how fast it is !

32 bit full range problem.
Thank you Jamon and Musicvid10 for your help. I've finally undrestood. Our hardwares are able to, but our softwares, no in many cases (it is a pitty). Id did not know that before your answers. Probably in a near futur, a real expander will be able to expand video ranges to full ranges without clipping the 0-16 and 235-255 levels. I keep using the 8 bits settings !

I do not want to correct my gamma in the 16-235 range because it's already corrected and Ok. I would like to expand the range to 0-255 AND to keep the overall contrast on my rendered files written on my blueraydiscs, 23.976fps. Before After Jamon, I had a look to your page : I have to read it very carefully now !

32 bit full range problem.
musicvid10, Yes, my source is limited to 16-235 levels. But I should be able to render 0-255 levels with a kind of algorythm (filter, colorspace ...) Black is black, white is white, unless you can compare your 235 or 16 with a 255 or 0 level. Contrast is just a bit higher using 0-255 instead of 16-235 levels. As I wrote, most displays are 0-255 capable today. By increasing a little bit my contrast this way, I should not loose details in dark shadows or highlights. I know most people do not calibrate their displays, But as written into french "Qui peut le plus, peut le moins " So you helped me to re-write my question : How can I convert a 16-235 video to a 0-255 rvb levels using Vegas Pro ?

Hello, From my knowledge, the best host could be Ovh (fast, reliable, secured) But I only use 1&1, Ovh and our french "Education Nationale " host servers. If your upload transfert rate is high enough, you can use a home solution. Of course, you can also use a realcomputer, but think about electricity : 4wh power consumption with a raspberry pi : it's always "on" and connected at home for my private needs. This is the cheapest solution. You just need an sd card as a backup solution. Do not forget 95 % host servers on earth use linux. Just because Windows is not secured enough. You 'll need some linux knowledge. Now, CMS (Content management systems.) I do not recommend Wordpress just because I maintain a site made by a previous person : yes, it's easy, but heavy : if you try "which loads faster" to compare the speed of wordpress websites to others, you will understand what I mean. Keep in mind speed : above 2", you loose 10% of visitors. Above 4", more than 20% will try another page. Other free choices ? Drupal, Joomla. I use all of them. Plenty of others too ! Drupal and Joomla are quite heavy too. (on the user side) You can also use google webdesigner - very fast - html5 capabilities - and you can add php code ( not easy if you've never used php and have no online sql base) As I also use it, I can tell you you have to think about how to organize your files, and prepare your own template. (It's aim is about ads, but I enjoy using it for a complete website ! ) If you only want a video / photo gallery, have a look to coppermine first. It is fast and easy to use. You can also mix a standard cms (wordpress, joomla ) with coppermine. Now, how to edit your pages ? Wordrpess, joomla, drupal, etc, embed editors. The best I know is Ckeditor. The seconf thing you have to do after installing your cms is to configure it with ckeditor ! Even with a Cms, it's like using Vegas pro : you will have to learn "how to". OT -Deleting and formatting a SD media card onwin8
Maybe your sd card device cannot format it because it is not fully compatible with your sd card. In this case, you can read files, but you cannot format your card. You cannot delete files too Use another sd card reader to check ! Of course, if you used your device under windows 7, then problem comes from Win 8 !

Vegas 13 audio problem.
Yes John, audio enveloppe is more flexible. But I do not know how to increase the volume with it. I cut some parts, add this effect. Now, I can also (this is what I finally did) select the properties of the samples I want to increase and recalculate the Normalize value. SonyPCH, the audio format was PCM. In case, I switched to Dolby AAC, but have no big files yet ! Problem is probably related to the use of HDwriter. I do not need this software if I remember pushing the on/off recording button from time to time (when possible) I cannot mail this kind of file to Sony for investigations. Again, thank you for your help and comments.

Vegas 13 audio problem.
Thank you for your help. I found this problem ONLY appears with video files > 4GB. When I import a video under this limit, no problem. Media properties are the same ! Could someone check with such a big video file ? To copy it on my computer, I used the HdWriter app, included with my Panasonic camera, otherwise, I get several 3.9 gb files on my sd card, and I can see 3D on the 1st one only. So with this HdWriter app, I can get a single video file ... with 3D I also found another workaround with my big files : I add and play a small audio file that contains no sound on another track ! I have to duplicate this file, (if I mute the track, the trick does not work) to the lenght of my video. More info : my video file is a 5.3 gb file, m2ts, 3D. Keeping only 10 seconds of this video on a new project (cut - suppress) - same sound problem with audio effects ! As I have another 7 Gb file, I tried it : same problem.

Rendering at 1 fps ?
I usually use a personal website because I can add restrictions if necessary. Using Dropbox is fine in certain circumstances... I solved my problem, with Blender : some explanations for those who are not used to this free software Open Blender and acording to the picture below 1 clic add to add the video you rendered with Vegas 2 check your resolution 3 set the framerate at 1fps 4 check that the Sequencer box is checked bottom of the picture , you choose the destination directory and your filename. and below, the output format (jpg, png, avi, etc), the codec (h264 or whatever) 5 clic Animation button and wait (it is very fast) Full picture: http://dominotes.fr/vegas/BlenderV13.jpg

Rendering at 1 fps ?
Set New Still Image Length to 1.0 seconds. I did that of course, but the rendered file is too large. If I can render it at 1 fps, this file will be very small - or exporting pictures could be another clue. I did some color settings, rotations, cropping, etc, with multiple projetcs, and would like to email some of them without loosing quality, using my project settings ... OT - USEFUL: Hard Drive Visual Map Freeware
Soniclight, defrag is one thing. rearranging files is another one. If you use the linux command, then you use your sofware, what will you see ? Only one blue square. Only one purple square Only one yellow square and so on. It's like having the right files at the right place. It's not intended to save place, you just know your hard drive is "bien organisé" Your post explains how to display the content of your harddrive. My "addon" let you get a more beautiful picture of it. I could say none of these 2 software are really useful : it's easy to kwow what the big files are, what their names are.... without your softtware, and we do not really have to know where the files are physically written with mine. Anyway, your post is interresting for those who had never heard about that ! NB : There is one case where you could use defrag with your ssd : if you want to shrink your partition to a minimum size ... and doing this under linux is much faster than under Windows, I agree this is another story !

If you are also using linux on your computer, you can use "shake" command to defrag your ntfs partitions, just because for example you can ask shake to defragment just a single folder with all your mpeg files : they wil be physically located at the same place on your harddisk, alphabetivally sorted. For this example, use the command find -iname '*.mpeg' | sort | shake under your linux terminal This means you can process all your windows directory files, then all your program files folder and so on. In some circumstances (if you do not use an ssd of course) this can speed up your hard disk and your boot time. Monitor calibration question
The Spyder software is simple and limited. You can try dispcalgui. Once you really know how to use it, results will be much better. http://dispcalgui.hoech.net/ With dispcalgui, you can set the white level (mine is set to 100 cd/m², even if I could set it to a much higher level) This software has so much possibilities - you will get confused at the beginning, but learning it will pay later. If you try it, do not forget to first load the calibration of your sensor. There are plenty webpages that explain how to perform a good icc profile. It can also generate one icc profile per monitor, like your Spyder 4 pro software. (Spyder 4 express is limited to one monitor) And be careful, using large / high quality profiles can take several hours, so first sart with fast settings... Of course, using dispcalgui under Linux, Windows or Osx will give you same results. I do not know why, but calibrating and profiling under linux is 20% faster. Once your profiles are generated, you can copy them on all your os partitions -> same colors under Linux, Windows and your hackintosh !

Ext. preview contrast change between V9 and V13
And if you uncheck the box "Adjust Levels from Studio Rgb to computer Rgb", you should get the same colors with Vegas pro 13 on your external monitor and on the preview vindow moved on that monitor. Can you feel the color shift between Vegas 9 / 13 without the computer rgb levels ?
