Does Vegas support BWF ?
For some obscure reason, Vegas still doesn't export BWF format, even if it's been discussed for years now, and even if it's the main format used in ''pro'' (I mean, ''real pro'') environment.

... how about an ''interpret audio as time code'' function in Vegas ? And, otoh, something nice is coming soon (around february-march) from Tentacle Sync (an Indiegogo project that just kicked in) for those inclined to use audio TC on their cameras. Their Software will be able to sync TC from different sources in a very fashionable way... ;-)

"System specs:" Insulting; useless waste of time
Holy, lot of information here and I didin't take all the time to read everything down to détails. But after 3 years without editing and coming from vegas 7, that post would mean I can build my next computer with anything I find and it'll work for vegas 12 or 13 ? (hey, I'm joking here). It's just I was searching for infos about building something good to edit and I ran into that post... :D I think it sould be left either to each one's discretion to give his specs or simply be dictated by the topics discussed. If someone thinks that he could help cause he thinks something in particular might be causing the issue, well go for it and ask ! Otherwise, if it's irrelevant, it's irrelevant. Years ago, you could use PCi cards to provide FireWire on your computer, but if you didn't have the TI chipset on that card, you were running for trouble. Without asking and/or gathering information about that, nobody could have known. Just an example... Ok, back to that quest of finding a good mobo/chipset/memory/graphic card...

Suggestion ? Leave the bells and whistles and provide for "miracle" export capabilities between platforms (that would be a world's premiere, huh huh) plus full import-mods-export of BWF poly files.

I agree. For doco shooting you'll need to be quick at pulling focus to follow an action or adapt to variable, moving situations. You cannot , then, have a cam that needs some device to actually see what you're doing (ie: focus). For interviews if there is, then you can use a camera with focus memory points. Both of these cams will make you swear when you're on duty. They're more geared towards fiction imo. And I think the Sony is not that impressive...yet. I'd feel like being part of R&D financing if I bought one right now actually.

Interlaced dates from the 20s. Everything that will ''adapt'' to that is just a backwards compatible thing. And to me, it' HAS to be more of a broadcaster's problem than mine. The faster we'll get rid of this, the better it will be. Just getting rid of that ''which field order should I use?'' topics would be one of the benefits.

And on the stills side: 14Mpixels. Wow ! ... but no RAW So what's the point about spending 2000 bucks so far ? I won't even get into that ''stunning sound quality'' cause I know people will shoot with that cam and still be asking how they can get rid of that wind noise or how they can boost that 150 feet away guy's voice ... Again, a jack of all trades, master of none ''very well marketted'' item to me.

Uh rob, what do you actually propose? Interlaced 22108fps? Interlaced 87fps? Interlaced 9fps? (you'd have a problem here, nope?) My point was *interlaced* is OUT. Nowadays, TV sets and computer monitors are progressive devices. 24fps... well, I suppose you don't go to theatre anymore since it's sooo outdated and should get ditched in a trash can.

Sony is about to release NEX-3 and NEX-5 models, which are point and shoot cameras with interchangeable lenses that could remind the micro four thirds format. Supposed to shoot 1920x1080 60i and 30fps. AVCHD files. If a compact size matters to you... I dunno... My two cents...

Vegas Crashes Improved with this info.
Hoooly... reading these posts I keep asking myself if it's possible, now that HD is finally becoming the norm, to make a program that's solid/stable/reliable for all. I so much don't want to plunge, already, in that pool considering all the rant I read here... still keeping V7, no budging. Thanks god I don't earn my life with editing...

OT: Shotgun mic
If you go with the radio mics, a lot of Sennheiser G2 series are for sell for peanuts nowadays on the net. That is because they released the G3 series. But for your usual job, G2s will work great. Especially if you mount them (eventually) with someting like Sankens COS-11 lavs. You can also find or make a cable that you can plug to a dynamic hand mic if you want to record stand ups. Shotguns: the CS3e is indeed a good choice if you go with a shotgun mic for hard (noisy) environments. But having somebody speak 15 feet away in a Detroit city crowd after the Red Wings win the cup won't give you miracles anyway...
