Copying Video from an iPad
My probllem has always been getting video from other programs (e.g. HT Recorder +) which don't store their files in the DCIM folder area w/o installing iTunes (which I'd rather not install). Moving those files on the iPad seems to be impossible. When connecting the iPad to the PC I do get the DCIM and subfolders, but the HT Recorder files (and other 3rd-party captures) are not there. I believe they are in the ~/Documents area, but have not been able to access that yet via USB. Any hints to doing this?

Titler Pro 4 and Sony Vegas stability?
Having started with Titler Pro 1 - and upgrading each time in hopes of the problems being fixed - I'm happy to report V4 is far better than its predecessors (I think I can claim that it's perfect). I've not had any problems with either install or runtime. Wish I could say the same for Boris 10 - which had to go thru the usual song-and-dance of uninstalls and reinstalls.

Is There A Way To Permanently "Disable Resample"
Strange thing happened: I put the script in the approprate folder, and successfully used it a few times. After rebooting the computer the script file was no longer in the folder. So, todayI re-copied the file and set the read-only bit. See if this happens again. Does VP delete files from Vegas folders? Very odd. Steve

Vegas Pro 14? Maybe
"Certainly companies like BorisFX seem to think there is no V14 coming. I hope they're wrong." Where did you get this info re Borisfx? When I spoke with a Boris rep a couple months ago he stated a Boris 10 for VP will be forthcoming. Didn't give a time frame, but I'm sure they are waiting for VP14 to stabilize (perhaps).

Yes, the outdated under-the-hood APIs/Libraries are quite outdated. Updating to the latest CUDA and openCL would be nice. Someone recently posted that VP is based on VFW only - not D.X Obviously, major structural changes would require substantial rewrites - perhaps that's why they've taken so long to produce an update.

Good luck with your yearly haggle with Adobe. I used to be able to get lowered cablemodem charges this way but a number of years ago they got very hardas*** about it and would no long haggle/bargain/deal. It was full amount or cut the cord. S

no Vegas Pro 14 :(
To add a -1 to Adobe cc (subscription), I will never succumb to this model. Interestingly I keep getting offers to join cc at low intro discount. It would appear their subsc. model may be working for them tho. I recently attended a University of California-wide videographers conference. A show of hands of who used what edit app: 90% Adobe (mix of CS and CC tho). Literally only one Avid user, and myself the only Vegas user. Was disappointing at best.

Re X70 import, the Device Explorer doesn't see the xavc SD card files, so I now have to use File/Import/Media and choose the file in xroot. Also, preprocessing takes quite a bit longer than an AVC file. WRT rendering: I need the progressive.download feature in the Main.Concept .mp4 choices. However, the renders appear to be 4:2:0. When I render using a Sony codec I can get 4:2:2, but there isn't the checkbox for progressive download. Isn't there a render config for Main Concept to retain the benefits of xavc? Steve

The Device Explorer window which pops up when importing states that the resulting file should be approx 22GB (about right for 1hr/46min clip). The size estimate is usually pretty accurate. However, the resulting file on the disk is 43GB. I'm still trying to determine if the problem is with Vegas or the X70. I've checked the camera settings and both cameras are setup the same. Steve

OT: Vegasaur 2.0
I would like to see a Compositing Mode Preview feature. So instead of constantly clicking on the button each time to bring up the menu, a way to keep the CM window open, and select a mode while having it take effect immediately. Kind of like the way you can immediately see the effects of plugin presets. Steve

Can't Import XAVC from PXW-X70 into Sony Vegas
Got to use my new X70s on an 1.5hr gig today. One cam using avchd and the other xavc. The avchd clip looks wonderful! WRT XAVC: Installed Catalyst Preview and started the conversion of the xavc clip. It was going so slow that I left work to let it run overnight. (new model PC with 4th-gen i7) Of course while installing the Catalyst software it DID state that it was installing the CPU version of OpenCL - i.e. no GPU support. So, no wonder. Obviously I will use the cams in AVCHD until next month when, purportedly, Vegas will have ability to directly ingest xavc. Oh, btw, for those of us with X70s it appears Sony is going to charge a subscription for the firmware updates. So, those of us who thought the 4k feature was coming... it will, but apparently at a cost. Steve

VEGAS PRO 13 and PXW-X70
I spoke with a support person at pro.cony.com yesterday... he mentioned that Vegas should have direct support for XAVC in about a month. Not sure what the finer details of 'direct' are however. Steve

Can't Import XAVC from PXW-X70 into Sony Vegas
I've got a demo X70 on the way to test whether shooting talking-heads with DLP projection in the background will be a problem for this camera. Have had problems in the past with single-chip cameras. (and no problem with 3-chip cams). It's funny that sales people always suggest I purchase different (read: older model) cameras instead of the X70 - ones with clearly inferior specs. The X70 has two SD slots, has 4:2:2, and numerous other features that the CX900 is missing. Not sure if the CX900 supports firmware updates, but I'm looking fwd to the X70 for that and many other reasons. Just hope there's no issue with DLP projected video. Steve

This morning I spoke with a Sony product specialist 'Lou' who was unaware of the x70 import issue. He is checking on this. I plan to purchase a number of X70 cams depending on his research outcome. Steve
