Slightly OT: what would this processor mean for editing (if it ever comes out)?

Vegas 6 Features -- It's That Time Again...
Thanks Dave, I see what you are saying now. Never noticed that behavior before. Hope they can tweak this to work better. I'd like to also see the following: *Vidcap- Don't leave the deck/cam in pause when I hit stop. *Titler- View the full page without scrolling around (Yuck) *Titler- Allow effects and properties to be adjusted for each font or each line. *Timeline- Nested sequences *Preferences- (Editing) LImit new still image length & cut to overlap conversions to frames based on project properties. Easy to have quantize errors the way it is. Default values are wrong for NTSC projects. *Generated media- Default value of 9sec and 29 frames shouldn't be 9:29 plus 3/4 of an extra frame resulting in quantize *Show unquantized event start and event end. Hidden feature now. Will show you the above quantize errors. *Event select outline thickness adjustment. Hidden feature now. *Event,track,master fx windows open at the same time. *Smart rendering that would use the much faster preview quality for areas of the timeline that don't need good or best. Yes, there are things that render at preview quality just fine . Color correction of a straight DV clip is but one of them. *Native YUV support (Full rewrite needed but big speed gain) Maybe that is coming with the 64bit Vegas. I only say that because Sofo was on the record of supporing a MS 64 bit OS. With that said, Vegas is one awesome NLE. Love it. Craig H.

1.5) Better snaping of clips together, it really eats at me when I have to make sure that the last clip I select is one of the 2 clips I'm going to be butting together ----------------------- Dave, I'm not following you. Click on an event and drag it to snap to another event. How is that a problem? Craig H.

Wireless mic...balanced/unbalanced and XLR ?'s
Here is a link that might help you out. Notice the blocking capacitor to eliminate the 6-volt DC that lots of consumer video cameras have on the mic jack. Funny thing is none of the xlr mic input to 1/8" mic output adaptor boxes seem to have this. http://www.markertek.com/SearchProduct.asp?off=0 Is the xlr and 1/4" outputs on your Gemini mic or line level? Do you need to keep the two mics on seperate audio channels for post mixing? Craig H.

record multi track audio with video?
Yes you can use Vidcap to capture your A/V signal via a firewire port while at the same time using Vegas to record multiple audio tracks from a sound card. Craig H.

XLR converter for FX1 equvqlent to internal in Z1
You can't turn off the AGC on the FX1. Really limits your chance at getting good/great audio. I think lots of people will get the FX1 and use dat/solid state/laptops for audio needs. Hmmm, what are the audio recording options for $1200.00 ?? Laptop with 4 channels of input? Craig H.

First Frame Of Transition Corrupted
Did you add the video clips as a group (right click drag) adding the transitions automatically? Do you have stills or generated media on the same track before the problem areas? Craig H.

Mystery frame appearing - bug?
This bug showed up the same time dynamic ram preview appeared in Vegas 4. Don't use ram previews here and have never had this problem. Setting the dynamic ram preview to 0MB before rendering might be a cure. Are people only seeing this with DV renders? This is different from the mixed fields frame problem that results from unquantized Vegas generated media and stills and transitons. In that glitch you'll have a frame with a field from the last frame of the first event mixed with a field from the last frame of the second event. It can happen on cuts or transitions. Cause is unquantized generated media & stills that have a video event snapped to it. Events added with "cut to overlap conversion" can cause this also. This really isn't a bug, more of a Vegas Preferences interface weakness. It should only allow frame level adjustments based on the project settings. BTW, factory default setting for NTSC DV are wrong for generated media length (9:29 is really 9.29 and 3/4 extra frame) and new still image legth/cut to overlap conversion. Craig H.

Hey Mike, you missed two major things. Audio limiter can be turned off and levels can be set for each audio channel. Anyone care to comment on the quality of the mpeg 1 audio?

Importing stills as standerd frams (length)
Use the import media via the file menu. Click on the first frame/image and notice the check box for "open still image sequence" at the bottom. BTW, other programs don't follow the correct NTSC 29.970 duration that Vegas uses. Can cause a glitch about 5 seconds into your sequence. Craig H.

One should be able to pay for this camera with just a few SD jobs. This is the golden nugget of our time. Thank you Sony. Wow BTW, 15 frame GOP should make for great DOC. Questions.......... Watch out for this gotcha
If you want to flush all your project prerenders, just add a video track. Poof, gone. BTW, you are close to realizing a major trick to faster project renders. Good and Best as needed, preview for everything else. Craig H.

Move audio a frame at a time?
You will want to adjust the audio only event to match the video/audio event. Otherwise your audio will be out of sync with the video. With quantize to frames turned off, the keypad keys 4 & 6 will move a selected event one pixel. The level of horz. zoom of the timeline will determine how much the event will move. Keypad keys 1 & 3 will always move the event one frame. If quantize to frames is turned on, the 4 & 6 keys will move the event in frames just like using the 1 & 3 keys. Craig H.

OT: HELP!!! Flicker removal 8mm film
A bit of strobe? Event undersample (right click propertis) might let you dial in something that will work. Be sure to test with preview quality at good/full on ext. moitor to see a true interlace signal. Play a region loop and finetune. It's not R/T, but will jump back to playing when you ok the prefs window. The waveform will let you realy see the flicker and what you are doing to fix it. Good luck. Craig H.

Brace yourselves guys
New nestable folder tracks on the ACID Pro 5 timeline provide a more efficient way to view your project. Folder tracks increase your efficiency by organizing several tracks into one folder track on the ACID timeline. Track folders let you use cluster editing, drag, pitch shift, cut, copy and paste entire sections of loops, and reclaim precious screen real estate. --------------------- Oh man, I hope they can do this with video tracks in Vegas 6. Pasting FX without adding to the FX chain
Quick way to get rid of the old ones first is to right click the event fx icon and select delete all. I'd love to have the ability to select which fx will get pasted to the new event. FCP does it this way. Now I just untic the checkboxes for fx I don't want after using paste event attributes. Craig H.

250 gig HD's?
Spot, you might need to set your bios and OS for 48 LBA mode so you can use over 137gb drives. A guy on the newsgroups didn't set this and he was able to transfer files to the HD but it corrupted his avi files. Wrap around write I would think. Wireless firewire is just coming out. If it ends up working with DV, man that will be slick. Hey Spot, have you tried doing a multitrack audio capture in Vegas while capturing/monitoring with DV Rack? Is DV Rack heavy on the CPU? Craig H.

OT- Pluggin 2 mics Into Mic input
Radio Shack sells a Y cable that will give you discreet L/R mono jacks to a stereo plug. If it doesn't like the stereo plug from your wireless mic you'll need to get a stereo to mono adaptor plug. If you go this route, make sure to tag it with some spray paint so stand out from your other like adaptors. Something you'll need to watch out for is a drop in the impedence value you present to your cameras mic input. You might end up with a very low or noisy signal. Or both. If that's the case, you'll need to get a mixer with a mic level output to go between your mics and camera. Craig H.

OT? Sony's FX-1 HDV cam "about $3,700"

There is mention of a pro model coming out 1Q of next year for under $7k. KInda sad that the Sony rep didn't mention Vegas being able to do HDV NOW. Hey wait, how will you capture with this cam? Is there software shipping with it or will Sony update VidCap to work with HDV? Craig H.

If you were to spend not more than 800.00...
The D8 stuff is tough, two going strong after two years at a public access station (trv840). Same track pitch as DV CAM. El zero dropouts. Mine (first gen. tr7000) gave up the ghost on the video heads at about 600 transport hours. Head still works great. Latest batch of D8 cams from Sony stink, as does their single chip DV line. Used D8 trv520-320 units offer the best performance using 1/4" (or 1/4.6"). You could get 4-12 used cams with the budget. Kinda scary buying used cams though! That said, you must check out the new Panasonic PV GS 120/200. Camcorderinfo.com for info. The 120 is only $699 retail. Panasonic is going for it in the sub $1K cams. Will be getting one here soon. Full manual controls and top loading on all models. Also, Canon has manual audio adjustment on some new single chip cams (Optura I think). Side note, check out the super cool four way focus ring on the gs400. Craig H.
