Need help normalizing audio level
Thanks for all the help. That project is done. The audio was okay. I still wish I could remember what device/plugin I used to use. It had a bunch of sliders to set gain and min/max levels. Worked great.

SENN G3 to iPhone for FACEBOOK LIVE broadcast?
The Senn G3 with the right output cable will work fine on the G3 end of the equation. Some of my old cameras used a mini jack rather than XLR. However, I bet you are going to have to either fabricate a cable or buy some type of adapter. Only one of the contact points (and ground) are going to be for the mic input, Im sure its standard, but dont know which one. Hopefully a iPhone person will step in.

I hope Vegas Pro is NOT going down this path!
Its gonna be a sad day when we have an internet/power blackout in the future for whatever reason. There will be a total collapse of video editing. All YouTube videos will be a horrible mess of unedited video. Oh wait...

Im still running 8.0c on a (gulp) XP workstation. When I update that workstation to Win7Pro might be a good time to update to the latest working version of Vegas, whatever that is. I have learned one lesson. If you build a workstation with the best and fastest parts available at the time, it will never go obsolete. Ten years later its still awesome. But the software sure will obsolesce.

Vegas 13 has been out for a while - Lucky 13?
videoITguy: Great post! I still have a machine running 8.0c and it still works perfectly for DVD and BD projects. It has quite a few plugins that probably can never be replaced. I don't follow the forum much anymore, so Im not sure what to make of it. Ever since 3D I just gave up on having the latest NLE that doesn't do anything better that I need. Later, Jeff

Alternatives to Vegas?

It's so stable and trouble free on the footage I edit, there still isnt any reason to move on. Also, the primary editing PC is running XP Pro 32bit. So that will need an update too at some point to XP Pro 64 bit.

Vegas: never again
This is crazy. I dont think I have logged on in the last year. I was just coming back yet again to see if it's time to upgrade. However, it's sounding just like it did a year ago. Very sad. And Im still using 8 which is rock solid. But Im having to use too many work arounds to use VP8 and flv files. I guess I will wait another year.

Vegas pro 11 not good I want refund.
See if I send you any more work! Just kidding, I will. Im sure that SCS can tell when or if the license # is used. Probably can remotely disable too. Plus, I have no way to use the product, and like someone else said, $139 is not a lot of money to fight over. I was actually looking forward to moving on past V8. But, it still works fine.

Alternative to Canon 5D and 7D quality?
The 5D & 7D are a total failure compared to a real video camera. The only video camera that clearly beats the DSLR crowd at a low price point is the Panasonic AF-100. However, you will probably need to rent a good lens. Watch the 2011 Zacuto 3 part camera shootout. They test the DSLRs, AF-100 and high end cameras. Very interesting. DSLRs are toys compared to an actual video camera.

Will Vegas Pro11 work on XP or not?
My XP machine is just fine, rock solid and fast. I really don't have the time or inclination to jack around fixing something that isn't broken. 74% of current PC users are on the XP OS. Im one of them. I have another graphic design workstation next to my XP video editing workstation that runs Windows 7. I love it and it works great. But like I said, Im not going to waste my time fixing something that isnt broken. When I do my next hardare upgrade I will switch to 7 as the drivers will be all wong to work on my current XP image. That's probably another year away though.

Vegas 11: bye-bye XP :(
For those of you who are running your business on Windows XP, you should be aware that end of support for Windows XP was April 14, 2009. That means you are running your business on an unsupported product and if something breaks, Microsoft support is going to tell you to upgrade to Windows 7 and call them back. So you have been playing with fire for several years now and it is time to face that fact. How can you expect Sony to continue to support an OS that the original manufacturer no longer supports? Business support is completely different than consumer. My day job has 70,000 people/workstations/laptops who are running on the XP OS and we do have MS support for XP.

Cutting edge? What does the NLE have to do with getting out a top-tier product? Unless the NLE dosent work right, then you have a problem. V8 is rock solid and produces excellent DVD and BD-HD productions from my source materials. Im still on V8. It it aint broke, dont fix it. I just dont have the time to take chances or learn new work arounds. I will upgrade to V11 though. Im very slow and 3 versions is enough wait.

Using Canon MOV files in V8
Now, render your hybrid MOV files to an intermediate that has a fighting chance of playing in Vegas Pro 8, either the free GoPro Cineform, Avid DNxHD, or Sony MXF. The MOV files out of the 640X480X30P Canon D10 are really small and easily handled by Vegas. It was raining and the D10 is waterproof was the only reason I used it. my advice is to upgrade to vegas 10 and the latest qt. i can edit my canon t2i movs natively on my i3 laptop - no need for an intermediate. I will probably upgrade to V11. V8 has worked beautifully for me for years, I really have no reason to upgrade. However, my video work has really slowed down at this point, so installing a new NLE isn't too big a deal. I only installed the latest QT as I had been uninstalling it after each (infrequent) use as VLC is my video review tool. Here is the video from the D10. I cropped the native 4:3 to 16:9 which even further reduced the resolution. But hey, it was raining the entire time. http://vimeo.com/29233323

On the other hand, both of the local custom PC shops in my area do not charge for assembly labor. They only charge for parts & OS That would be the way to go for sure as long as the markup costs were no more than $300 (say 10%) or so.
