Error Creating Media File - No reason
OK, so I searched on the error message and this nice young man has posted this video on youtube: His suggestion is to go into Custom Settings turn off Automatic Encode Mode and render with CPU only. And yeah, it seems to be rendering fine now. But 16 threads are only peaking at less than 25%. And I can't say it's speeding along. Could my hard drive be a bottle neck? I'll have to render to one of my SSDs and see what that does. Also, what problems could I be having with my GPU and rendering? Anyone got any experience with the new 8 core CPU? Is it faster than rendering on GPU? It's a pretty fast GPU and CUDA compliant. **Edit: Just rendered a sample veg to SSD and HD. HD wins by a few seconds. So I don't think I have a media bottleneck.

Program crashes when searching in Help
Funny, my help file started crashing last week out of the blue. Crashed every time I tried it but was working fine earlier the same week.

Failure to Render
Interesting... as a part time gamer, I always thought being current is better. How much faster is this older driver compared to recent ones? Just for speed, it may not be worth it for me as most of my renders are at night anyway. But stability is important. I'm guessing I can find this older driver on Nvidia website? Do you just install the entire thing or is there specific drivers that you're after?

I'm on Win7. As for drivers, I just try to keep them up to date. I was not aware there were preferred drivers for various Nvidia family GPUs. Tell me more of this older driver. BTW, render with GPU off appears to be a failure... sitting at 64% and no action... ready to pull the plug and cancel this attempt.

I think I'm using the latest Nvidia drivers 327.23 installed on 8 NOV 13. A version 331.65 appears to have been released the day before I installed but not sure why I don't have that... Next attempt I will turn off GPU. Right now I'm trying a new veg file where I've saved a new version with media to a separate folder... desperate times call for desperate measures.

Bob, can you expand on the color curve suggestion? Which FX is best? If you're familiar with BCC is there one there that might work better? Perhaps there's a tutorial that explains it as I'm sure I've tinkered with all of the apps I have but I have no clue what I'm doing. Also, this is the first camera I've had with built in density filters. The camera kept flashing for D3 (darkest) so that's what I used. Not sure if that flattens the DR or not or just allows for a better auto exposure.

musicvid, thanks for the suggestions. What do you mean by upload a camera clip? You mean an untouched bit of video? The beginning the the dog vid has some of the untouched color footage that I don't think I played with much. I know this is a dynamic range problem... I guess I was hoping for some sort of HDR-like trick for video?

Here's another recent project where there was a bit of sunlight and the results are much better. But at around 8min I film inside a tent with bright tent walls behind the subjects. So I had a similar problem with wanting to bring up the dark shadows... as you can see I failed miserably be had a tight deadline and had to go with what I got and couldn't fall back on making into "art" by going with black and white and cranking on the levels mindlessly... lol. The joys of being an "amature" or volunteer means lower expectations... but I would like to improve my skills in this area.

NewBlue Titler Pro Software Update.
I upgraded per the above instructions.... crashes every time I mess with the library. It starts gathering thumbnails and then just freezes.

I think it looks fine. Though I would zoom in on each page and pan across the photos so people can actually see the images... or cut to individual stills one at a time. Enjoy the party.

Vegas Pro User Survey, July 2012 - feedback
I got the survey but bailed on it during that one section which made you rank the reasons you skipped certain upgrades. I never had a machine that couldn't take an upgrade so I wanted to rank that zero. But I also never skipped an upgrade because of other reasons so I wanted to rank them zero as well but the survey wouldn't allow that. I won't be pushed into answers I don't believe in so I quit. If Sony really wants my opinion give me the opportunity to provide text answers and try to understand the real issues. The whole thing stank of some poor slob being forced to put out customer surveys because some consultant told his boss that's what they should do.

Echo effect using Vegas
I've often created this effect manually by cutting out the word and repeating it by pasting the clip (event) over and over while reducing the volume. Then I add a reverb to the track.... but I also wondered why there isn't a single plug in with a preset that does this.

Dealing with banding in fades on YouTube
You final version is improved and totally acceptable. I loved the vid and the colors really popped once you got to the fishes. The slow follow of the black and white snake was cool. Must be nice to have your whole body one big fluid head - really smooth. And the slow mo reverse entry shot at the end was a nice surprise. Well done all around.
