Feel free to put me on your IGNORE list RednHack. WHEN ARE YOU GOING TO DO THIS? Never - you live for my verbal abuse (lol). V4 needs work still, but i feel SF will do just that. I'll switch then. I didn't like it over V3 when using the MME. It was as described - chuggy. Using the ASIO driver in V4 is RIGHT OUT in my book. V3 is a god*amned ace in comparison to V4 if we're talking - GET TO WORK AND GET WORK OUT efficiency. But, you're a dabbler and are oblivious to this statement. hugs n kisses, JD

weirdness with the 1010 - anyone?
go one step further and disable system sounds in control panel\sound(set to NONE - beeps, notices, etc).. You don't want that sh*t with a DAW anyway. Do you really need a quick "blip" or cool sound when a notice pops up anyway? No. Unless you KNOW you have a free IRQ for the onboard audio - keep it disabled. I would stay with maudios asiofix_.27 or the regular .27 (on the website). Not sure I dig the .29 over these two. Fully un-install the old one first. JoeD

Charles...dude.... You realize what you've said? I'm hoping this was worded wrong. It's a DAW. You are supposed to be able to overdub (tracks armed for REC, over existing tracks). Yes I hope Peter will elaborate on why things "get sluggish" with the MME drivcer use causing you to switch to the ASIO drivers. I guess if I ONLY recorded jazz\blues (rarely a overdub needed) ....naw.... there's no reason why it shouldn't be functioning as well (if not better) than V3. I'm staying with V3 and moving on to another app if nothing is done about this. JD

Christ... reminder - please keep your personal feelings on others out of "this one thread" (AS WAS ASKED). The others are simply updating with info on what is wrong AS WAS ASKED - and I thank them for it. I'm able to check out the other threads dealing with the current bugs just fine (eg - disappearing waveforms, etc) Nothing against anybody in this thread. I personally won't be using ASIO - ever - for v4. I want to hear from those using MME drivers now. I listed the key outstanding problems as they were listed AND THEY WILL AFFECT ME. No need to install V4 until they're fixed (and I do believe\hope SF will fix these). No need for fu*ked up workarounds with a metronome when V3 has a working one. No need to go any further until I get clarification that MME is working just as it does in V3 from current users using MME drivers. No need to go any further ESPECIALLY if some report missing drawn waveforms. The additions, however cool to you guys, do NOT outweigh the basic functionality needs for me. Please remember that I just want to see one thread where we list the facts and that's it. No stories on how you're doing, who you hate, who's recording studio you namedrop....just info on V4 on where it is now. We were doing pretty well there for a bit. Think we can do this? thanks, JD

Ok... We are doing this, but just a reminder to keep on the subject of outstanding v4 issues. so far we have: - metronome bug (somewhat important to my use) - MME driver usage in V4 - ??? (still need to hear more from MME v4 users and SF). Yes, I'll try the demo soon. - occasional disappearing recorded files (or missing drawn waveforms actually) Sorry, I'm just making the checklist so we can weigh the decisions better. So far based on the above, I'm not moving to V4 just yet (dang, but maybe SF will do a patchup very soon to catch these outstanding issues). JD

I'll try the demo (**but most of the time, I need more than just a demo with something like this, V3 is my main tracker of choice). But I WILL be using MME drivers (for a reason), and do need to use the metronome with some groups from time to time. The workaround kinda blows - will this be getting fixed (sf?). Are the delta MME drivers working EXACTLY as I use them in V4? It MUST be this way before I move. Is this the case? (SF?) I'm not sure that I'll move to V4 now...although I want to and I have a period of time now (vacay) where it would be ideal to switch. Who here is using V4 with maudio MME drivers? actually, I will say you're right then. Peter is being civil about this. You're right, I'm wrong there. He can get rather "snippy" with his posts with me, but I've been snippy as well. That was then - this is now so I'll stand corrected. I'm just bothered with the fact that these great products aren't being perfected into what could be THE solution for users and THE flagship application for SF. Not one being trampled upon by poor marketing. Then I can stop being THE harping a-hole here. I would rather be honest with how I'm seeing this, rather than bullshit SF, others... even myself simply out of complacency. I assure you...It could easily be the top application in the content creation field (audio, music video (loop based music??), video). There's no reason why it can't or shouldn't. The UI alone could sway tons of users of competitive applications\systems. I've been with SF long enough to know how stabilty improves in the timeline. Emotional?...eh whatever. I just see it as a complete resolve to efficient content creation and yet it's being "parted out" poorly. That is half the game when work needs to be done and dates need to be met. That's the important factor with specialists in the field. Hell, charge more for it, I could care less...but let's get the streamlining going. Really though...so far all I've seen is that this won't ever be considered again. Maybe a re-wire solution can help a bit (not too crazy about it) but I really would prefer "VegAcid" as i've described. Best thing about VegAcid is that it's 85% already there. Why not just complete the circle. JoeD

You check your IDE controllers in xp for dma, In win98se i believe it's within each hd setting (device manager). You need to make sure DMA is working for your audio drive first. Could be you need an update for your mobo, check into it. Yes, use the .27 driver. It works best. You also should see the buffer setting of 384. this is a delta 1010, correct? The database thing: could get too hairy and provide misinformation to some (differing systems). Best to get a system up and running as best it can, then tackle the audio system. JD

Not "afraid" of work. (???) They are now LIMITED in their product planning\releases (sony buyout? good? Bad?). I'm sorry - THIS IS NOT THE OLD SF. The old SF that I once knew, knew how to remain on top by sticking to the important areas as per flagship applications. This new sf is sleezy in a way now....the marketing vs. product return (see V4) is out of balance. Compartmentalized, incompatible products. Sleezy. The old SF was - "go for it, make it the best, streamlined, compatible". The new SF is "LIMIT THE GODDAMN GOODS". I'm hoping someone there with a brain can see this and turn it around. I'll repeat it until it rings untrue. You think a phone call to support's gonna do it? This forum to Peter is the closest he'll get to true user opinion - from a user who's been with them at the beggining....and even THAT stinks (there are more users out there with views people, that never even consider this msg board). Don't just take my word for it, many SF diehards (who also use to work for SF) can and will solidify these comments. The word of the day is "sleezy". this is an important thread - one I'm guessing certain people at SF hope will die (again, there's the "new" SF for ya). Screw civility at this point, I'm not getting too much civility from SF's posts either. JD

Try BillyBk's suggested ACID fix .27 driver. I have it on my website if you need it: http://www.joedoriamusic.com/Files/Delta1010_ACIDFix_27.zip It'll probably help as I don't think SF's update will address this. JoeD

What driver are you using for the delta 1010? Try the older .27 win98 driver. If it's not on their site, let me know if you don't have this one and I'll psot it for you (or somebody else can). DMA buffer setting of 384, set to mon mixer in the patchbay, codec and spdif sample rate at 44.1, uncheck "rate locked", check next to "reset when idle". JD

I think the 2 apps should be able to interface together but not merge as one - at least at this point in software development. It's called testing). Based on this, would you demand to cancel\pull V4 (not that many others havn't already)? Cut the shit with stability freakouts...you few sound like goofballs. Many are looking at a bugged out V4, yet I don't see you guys asking for your cash back...or video functionality to be pulled out, etc (btw: how do YOU know the video enhancements aren't a cause to V4's current problems?). It will be as stable as the user base allows it to be. If you pull your money when SF says "that's the way it will be - no further updates"...it speaks volumes, but you few here sure as hell aren't doing this with your bugged out V4. Get off the fence and stop with the hypocritical posts you spew off. A company like SF doesn't want unstable applications, they want your money....and I firmly believe a Vegas\Acid app would eventually have the stability the user base requires. Is this really NEWS to you though? It's always been the same game and you know it. Eventually, the application becomes solid. What has SF got to lose anyway? I know this based on your reply and past replies It's that flippin simple, so I don't expect you to sway in your staunch belief that an acid\vegas application is pure non-sense\voodoo\badmojo\whatever is your latest excuse on the matter. ok, we're talking AUDIO here Pete, so let's not drag in any video functionality. We on the same page? Now let's take Sonar as an example. The areas of importance for the average\intermediate buyer are roughly as follows: - FEATURES - FUNCTIONALITY - UI - STABILITY (remember"average\intermediate buyer") SF has designed THE best UI in the game as far as the straight line concept for getting from point A to point B. A close 5\5. Exellent! The ONLY "consistent" (re-read that Peter..."consistent") poor remarks being made of Sonar is it's UI design. I only know this of current and past clients, many, many msg boards, students of mine,etc. The positives I come across however reside in the realm of FUNCTIONALITY and FEATURES. They love having one audio application handling 99% of all audio design\eng\editing. As of V3c, in the area of stability, you have eased into a 4 out of 5. Great. **I'll leave V4 out of this , the ratio there is more of a 2\5 (adequate...eh, I don't like adequate. Bet you don't either.), but it has possibility of coming along. FACT: Word of mouth reports are crucial. Consistent reports of an AUDIO applications pros and cons are what can decide the leading app. SO TIME ISN'T KIND TO THE COMPLACENT. SOMEONE "IS" GOING TO STEP UP TO THE PLATE AND DESIGN AN AUDIO APPLICATION THAT ADDRESSES ALL THE USER WANTS WITHIN THE CONFINES OF THE O.S. it's designed for. It's why we now have a choice of MANY great trackers. IS IT GOING TO BE YOU OR SOMEBODY ELSE THAT DESIGNES A POWERFUL APP (ACID\VEGAS) WITH A SUPERIOR UI? This will lead to a mass fanatical posts\emails about the new product, mostly in FAVOR. Word of mouth, best advertising you can get. Cake Sonar has that now. Why can't SF? Another example, we know PTools, but ever hear of RME, a company that is doing well via (free) word of mouth advertising. Sonar shares this fanatisicm to some degree. Where is SF in this rating?...somewhere in the middle? Adequate (there's that word again). Now, go find out the sales figures of Sonar and Vegas dating from inception to today (which gives more than adequate time to claim realistic assumptions). What we're going to find is that Sonar will have the dominant figures here. Go re-read the features list of Sonar. Numbers never lie...these people were willing to overlook your superior UI to the functionality and features of the competition. These facts aren't negotiable between you and I, from the newbies to the pros, the sales numbers are what tell the story today. Ok, so we know SF has the better UI, excellent ratios in STABILITY, now there's the important FUNCTIONALITY and FEATURES. Buzz, updates occur far too infruequently (feature updates, not just bug fixes). A cheesy marketing stance of CONFINING a choice of either working with loop based music, (with your video?..hint-hint), a decent timeline, and offering multiple input recording is marring BOTH OF THE APPLICATIONS BY A CREATING FLIMSY, COMPLACENT, NICKEL AND DIME little line. Yes - nickel and dime. It's SOOO FLIPPING OBVIOUS. Come on, Don't sit there and quivel with me on how this all reads. No, I'm telling "you", it's not the other way around (There's that "emotion" Pete mentioned kids). I'm "the user" telling YOU how I'm seeing these two applications separately. Understand? Is it a question of "is it possible"? You mean to tell me you have a team that knows how to design an incredible UI, stay on top of reports to create EXCELLENT STABILITY, yet cannot meld ACID and Vegas into one usefull app...WITHOUT PISSING OFF AN ENTIRE AUDIO COMMUNITY? Really? Where was this audio community worry when the Video features were introduced? And hmm...Wow, that's some powerful little functionality line you've boxed yourselves into. Just try it. I know...I know, it's easier to play holier than thou and claim all the pros of the app AS IS rather than going the extra mile (especially with where Sf is now) but try it. Bloated? BuL*shit! Buggy? Bul*shit! Let's take VA 1 Pete, I'm not bothered by the video functionality in VVideo when it was VA's latest update. I've seen how users here play a role in helping obtain the best STABILITY (and your developer track record is excellent as well, working in conjunction with in-house test teams). I'm telling you - I really want to see this applications merger. I want that functionality. PC-wise... I go back to SForge 1. This is NOT the old SF anymore. I remember when forge was the flagship of SF, and they remained there for quite some time by paying attention to all the four areas of importance. I have used Sonar and have completed multiple input rec, over loop based tracks (all created and completed in sonar). It works, it's great to have it all available in one app...but I feel you're UI and STABILITY for this kind of work in ONE APPLICATION would eventually prevail. Word of mouth alone would ensure this. Call me CraZy. Now on a side note: Where the f**k do you get off pissing down the back of a SF user since day 1, because he wanted to see SF continue and thrive with a top selling flagship product? Huh? jacka$$. Where's your head at? Hint, You're reply here is the "worst word of mouth advertisement possible" for your products. Nice. Have you been in the game a bit too long? have you forgotten the game? What do you want, everyone (an SF forum??) to tip-toe around telling you everythings great so YOU can feel better about RE-STATING THE SAME 'OL PROS OF Vv and Acid AS THEY STAND NOW? Or is it really just kinda complacently being "adequate", and guising it up with posts as to how it shouldn't be done, how it will AFFECT ALL THE USERS and POTENTIAL USERS? My God how this new SF cares and looks out for me. Thanks SF! The old Sf would have already HAD THIS FUNCTIONALITY, HAD ALL THE FEATURES and stabilty would have already GROWN BY NOW. All the new SF has done has compartmentalized the products in nice, tight little non-compatible packages (tight enough to choke a possible larger user base) from a marketing standpoint of "limit the goods guys"...run by the crack marketing team of Dewey, Cheatum, and Howe. Nice! Please, play innocent with someone else Pete, it's pathetically predictable. Now I'm done EXPLAINING why I would like to see this, but really, tell me... how can you predict what "the buying customer wants" without trying it? This forum? (LOL!!) Come on. The old SF would have by now....that's the truth and you KNOW it. Sonar\PT\ Nuendo\maybe Cubase continues to be, on average, the application I must reccomend to beg-intermediates...even some pros with home studios for an app that does it all reasonably well for the price. This concept is a joke, SF knows it and their arguments against it BLOW (much like the arguments you'll read here from MORONIC users trying to defend this idiotic game plan - worrying about "bugs" before their even there. Yet they're somehow all "peachy" having all these video features in the application (????), even if you can shut it off. Talk about turning your back on a flagship app that could bring TONS of more users into the SF realm. Christ! I would start promoting SF once again if they decided to bag the CHEESY current marketing ploys and just did as a professional A\V application can and should do. I would KILL to be in on any one of the SF R&D or marketing meetings. I would give a scolding backed with facts like NOBODY'S business. I'd find replacements for those hanging this process SO FAST it would make heads spin. Do the ONLY thing you need to do SF - make vegas and Acid one application. You guys have the best UI design around, why not try and be #1? Instead of giving whole new meaning to the word "complacency". JoeD

Slight improvement-Dualies running V4
I'm REALLY hoping V4 gets the serious attention to the important details from the dev dept. as it should (loss of power is a NO-NO, any way you slice it). Then I can dive in and put DVD arch to some good use. Until then it's V3c, Sonar2, Nuendo, Samp. In the interum, I still have to ask why those of you who do own V4 and it's not useable for you yet, aren't demanding your cash back and just using V3c at this point? You can buy it when it's ready. Those "features" are slim to none on the importance scale over the problems. Yes, buying new software helps this flagship product and a company in need...but leaving holes in accountability leads NOWHERE even faster. You've shown you want to buy it, found out some bothersome results, now it's time for accountability on their end. If you show you won't put your money in for sub-par functionality - yet are still showing your intention to buy their product - then it's in both parties best interest to better streamline\fix this flagship product. It won't happen if you're complacent however. Accounting will just count the $ and the products problems will flow along (joke: it's a "feature" by now). I know you like SF, I am hoping for a better SF...but nothing is going to be done if you don't LET MONEY TALK. It's not a personal thing...it's just plain 'ol business. Pull your purchase and use V3c, they'll get the msg loud and clear. JoeD
