I hope Vegas Pro is NOT going down this path!
I have a big issue with this. What possible reason is there for software to keep forcing validation? I avoid software that insists on phoning home all the time. Corel went down this route with Coreldraw X7 and now X8. We won't consider upgrading until they change (been using Coreldraw for over 25 years). I see it as a slippery step towards subscription pricing not to mention a security risk.

Why still post to this forum?
I like this forum but it's no way the best. Composition is so awkward with the custom tags and lack of access to the thread and there is no quick search function. I prefer the forums at Oberon or Eileen's Lounge. Having said this the helpful supportive nature of this forum is truly great. It's the community that make or break a forum. I hope the community survives the transition to MagiX. Cheers.

SURVEY: Would you upgrade to VP14 if...
Yes, subscription is a no-no, also forcing periodic phoning home. Coreldraw x8 came out recently. Corel has a subscription model but claims to sell full licences. However, when I double-checked I found that unless the software is allowed to phone-home at least once a month it stops working. I've been using CorelDraw since version 6 but no more. Deliberately crippling software in this way is as bad as subscription.

Thanks. Rescanned the Audio VSTs, tried various different audio drivers - no joy. Only thing left is uninstalling the drivers which I am loathe to do.

+1 For better File requesting: Saving, opening and importing are separate events and should be tracked separately. I ended up using AutoHotKey to help me quickly change locations because of the irritating way Vegas just uses the last location for all events. Please overhaul the dialogue for missing/offline files. It hasn't be changed in years. The Search for missing files should at least allow the user to specify a directory rather than having to search an entire drive. Thanks.

OT: Removing DNSUnlocker
If that happened for me I would immediately use a full system backup image - I make one daily. I use the free version of Macrium reflect. It only takes around five minutes to do a full system restore. Much safer than messing around trying to uninstall malware. How can one ever be certain the system is 100% clean? I do have Malwarebytes running and for what it is worth Microsoft Security Essentials but I think frequent backups stored on drives completely physically disconnected is the best kind of defence.

"Personally, when you go outside of your house you give up your privacy. It is outdoors." Sounds like an argument a paparazzi lawyer would use. Surely, it's not whether one is outside but whether one is in a public space. Someone in the space above your property or viewing at an angle looking at your property is not a physical threat to be defended. Sure, tell that to children living in Yemen. I just think we need to get a grip on how we use technology and what is acceptable and what isn't. I'm not really in favour of gunning. I don't look forward to the day when the sky is filled with delivery bots and surveillance bots. When we need to think we can do something that is usually a sign that we shouldn't. End of grumble.

I've had trouble with Flash on Windows 8 and 10 however t I wasn't talking about software but the actual Windows settings. I gave you an example.

Thanks for the tip, I wasn't aware of it. But it's how many of the settings work that's the issue. For example, my pure Windows 10 tablet switches it's orientation to portrait mode if I log out or switch off. It ignores rotation lock settings. To get to the point where I can reset it takes many more clicks on Windows 10 than Windows 7 because of the new interface that stands between most of the real settings. It's as if they got half way through the job of redesigning the interface and gave up. Windows 7 is way more consistent. The only thing I have found with Windows 10 that is way better than Windows 7 is it's support for accounts with different user languages. But that's not enough of a draw to ever get me to switch until I have no choice.

Perhaps Windows 10 is better upgraded and on desktops. I have it on two tablets. One was upgraded from Windows 8.1 and that works better than the one bought with Windows 10 pre-installed (same model). I disagree about the interface. I think I have tried all permutations for the start menu and nothing with Windows 10 strikes me as better than Windows 7 but when you want to change settings Windows 10 is a hybrid horror. It takes more clicks to get anywhere and settings don't stick. I guess I could live with Windows 10 if it weren't for the update and privacy issues. I just see no compelling reason to switch until I have to.

Yes - if you use Classic Shell and O&O ShutUp10 - but comparing Windows 7 and Windows 10 alone 10 has less user control and takes more work.

Are you talking about an actual boot? If so, in my experience the difference is marginal. No-where near compensation enough for having to use Windows 10. I think I actual prefer Windows 8 to 10. I've tried hard to like 10 but the more I use it the more annoying it gets.

I don't use Windows 10 enough to comment on the stability. The interface in Windows 10 is a mess. Classic Shell helps somewhat. I haven't found it snappier or faster to switch on than Windows 7. It requires more fiddling around to tame the settings and the forced updates are a menace. Mind you, updating Windows 7 is now a nightmare as well - if you want to avoid Windows 10.
