Yes, and what happens next time you want to update it? Browsing has little to do with it. Unless you disable Cortina and other settings Microsoft will grab offline use as well. Following your logic you shouldn't be using an operating system that is sold as a service on your workstation. Microsoft are seeking to change their revenue modal and their new idea involves advertising and abusing personal data. I understand there is a version with reduced tracking and the possibility to delay updates and it costs somewhere in the region of $500. I'll be looking at switching to Linux on my main machine before I put Windows 10 on it.

Windows 10 boots much faster because it is not really off. It's an illusion. Really switch it off and it is as slow or slower than Windows 7 to get back to a working state again. This deep sleep mode would be OK if it worked probably.. It's already drained two tablets of their batteries - Some apps suck up juice even when Windows is supposed to be off. It's imperative to keep Windows 10 machines that are off connected to a power supply. Not a problem with a main machine I suppose but since I like my machines to be really off when they are supposed to be off I don't see power management as I reason for upgrading to 10.

Interesting. So is the old Windows folder required to be kept? Sounds like by not using a disc image you are increasing the space used by the system. Or are you suggesting that "bare metal restore" and the like are just snake oil and not required? Personally, if I got a new Motherboard and CPU I would use it as an opportunity to completely rebuild by system, but perhaps that is an old-fashioned approach.

I'm curious, how did you deal with the system. Did you use an imagining system and if so what? I agree with other posters that a fresh install of Vegas is the logical try.

Thanks for the suggestions, I'll check them out. I used Windows Memory Checker. Is Memtest86 better? Their website indicates it is up to version 5 now. Any thoughts on a new graphics card - I have a hunch that that is the culprit.

Or you just allow Windows to update automatically and it will give you windows 10. The real trick is avoiding Windows 10 if you don't want it. With all the nags to upgrade Microsoft are acting like spammers. The way Microsoft are pushing Windows 10 it currently looks more like malware than software. I think a combination of GWX and O&O ShutUp10 can keep it at bay for now. I'm staying with Windows for as long as practical - it doesn't track my every move nor force me to take updates. I do have Windows 10 on one tablet and over all I prefer Windows 8 which I'm keeping on my other tablet. One can only hope that by July next year Windows 10 will have improved and Microsoft will have relented on spying and force updates.

Thanks for the information and suggestion. Something to investigate in the holidays. As for your points about software phoning home and stealing resources I completely agree. Such policies should be clearly stated at the time of purchase. I loath software that does this. I can't see myself upgrading unless I get some clarification and explanation from them. It's totally unnecessary and just detracts from using the software.

Care to share any of the links you found? I did do a search before posting using that exact search term and it didn't turn up anything useful. I guess I need to contact HitFiilm support. I was just wondering if anyone else had noticed node.exe try to get out while using Vegas. It happens regardless of whether I try using a hitfilm plugin or not.

Any particular reason for going with Windows 10? It's really tough to stop it auto-updating and it sends shed loads of personal data to Microsoft. I do have a couple of Windows 10 tablets but wouldn't dream of using it for my main working machine. Windows 7 is just fine.

Thanks, Gracie. Did a search for route and came up empty except for stuff about using mapping software which doesn't strike me as relevant. I seem to remember seeing a tutorial about drawing a line but couldn't find it. Also removing a line seems quite different in my tests.

Why doesn't Titles and Text see some fonts?
Could it be an OpenType Font versus a TrueType font? I think one of them doesn't show up but can't remember which.

Website Advice
I think you are confusing the tools used to build a website with the hosting of one. You can have your own domain [eg mybeautifuldomain.com] which needs paying for (to keep the name) and then you need to host it somewhere (so people can see it). You could set up your own server if you don't mind dealing with all the security implications of doing so or use a hosting service which will require fees as well. It's possible to create a website using notepad if you know how to write code. Wordpress automates the process of making webpages. I've used it but prefer using Dreamwweaver (but not the latest cloud monstrosity) A site could have both wordpress pages and pages created by hand. When you say distribute do you mean sell or provide material freely? A shopping cart is a whole other ball of wax. Hope this helps, Kit

Verdict on Win 10 upgrade?
There's no way I'm letting Windows 10 force itself onto my main machine. We had one tablet that I allowed Windows 10 onto. I found the interface slightly better than Windows 8.1 but still requires Classic Shell to be usable. I despise all the junk that comes with the install. Windows Store wouldn't work and Windows 8 + without access to apps is pointless. Trying to return to 8.1 didn't work, neither did refresh and using reset bricked the whole tablet totally destroying the touch functionality. It's currently back with the makers and I have yet to discover whether they will fix it under warranty or not. The combination of forced updates and destruction of privacy with Windows 10 makes it a no-go for me. There's a tool called O&O ShutUp10 that is supposed to give the user the control back including blocking updates but I don't know how well it works since I now don't have Windows 10. I think it's a shame the path Microsoft are taking. The one advantage of Windows was that there was some user choice and control and Microsoft seem hell-bent on taking that away.
