Speed up video

A further question about speeding up video. Why is there a limit of 3x in VV3.0a? Even Studio 7 goes up to 5x. Cheers for any comments.

Sorry GG, just looked at the Vegas Video sight from the above link under Articles & Tip and only found Simulating 3D Effects in Vegas Video 3, Love those Velocity Envelopes & Lights, Camera, Action. Am I actually looking in the right place? Cheers

I was re-reading the manual and thought 'masks' but, although you have described it well, it seems rather daunting at the moment. I'll read about masks again - knowing VV it's probably easier than I imagine;-)

Ripple edit; Help waht am I doing wrong?

Thanks and, actually, this is the way I have been doing it since I couldn't get the ripple effect to work the way I expected it to (which is probably not correct anyway). In response to GG's later reply I did read the manual and have done the tutorial but seemed to have a few mental blocks and appreciate all the advice given. It's good to know that I have been doing it right all the time without really knowing that;-) Cheers everyone

Render Times?

Would be be any use in an instance, say, when you are happy with a section pre-rendering that part? If you edited something prior to that but that didn't result in a move up or down the timeline would VV3 still have to re-render?

There's been so much I've learnt since the purchase of my DV CAM that I wish I'd known the existence of this forum (then again, I'd never heard of Sonic Foundry & VV3 till March). Thanks again for all the help given.

Thanks. My DV cam doesn't have anologue in I'm afraid although it does have DV in. I'm running on W2K so looks like it isn't gonna be straight forward. IIRC DC10+ captures as MPEG1 so I would have to convert that to AVI; doesn't something like Virtual Dub do this? Cheers

Velocity Envelopes

Velocity Envelopes

Thanks. Method 2 is what I have tried but the overall length of the clip hadn't changed and, obviously, if I've slowed things down the clip should pay for longer - but didn't. How do I make this so? Method 1 is ok but it's a lot of hassel if I decide I want the velocity changes elsewhere after all. At least with method two you can simply drag to points to where you want them. In a way my original question has been answered (method 1) but I would prefer method two. How do I go about changing the clip length, etc. after altering the velocity without having to resort cutting the clip? Cheers

Suggestions for improving VV3

Another addition I'd like to see would be the ability to choose any frame from a captured clip to use as a display in the media pool rather than just the first frame. This way you can select a frame that is more likely to convey the true contents of each clip.

Should I purchase VV3?

I have exactly the same expereince as Bonefish except I came from Studio 7. Unfortunately, I am finding the learning curve rather steep at the moment as many of the concepts such as keyframes, rae new to me. I have used the tutorial with all the relevant files but am still struggling a little. Perhaps I am expecting things to be more comlicated than they are!
