Auto Play from USB Stick?
US Army Centcom was hacked with autostart USB. Likewise the infamous centrifuge virus was distributed the same way. Just drop a few in the parking lot or at some bars, and some shmuck finds one and,"hey! It's my lucky day! Wonder what's on here?" I can't sign into this forum on my iPad anymore!
Just signed in on my iPad. Seems to work for me. However, the iPad does not remember my userid and password for this site, so must be the security settings. Maybe something in the Safari settings is causing your problem.

JC - excellent reporting! With just a bit of reading between the lines, the links reveal that nuclear energy is not profitable with all the costs internalized. As with any big construction project, the time value of money and financing cost must be accounted for. Unless it's not. Here the utilitiy companies want special consideration and have their customers provide the fiancing through rate increases. Otherwise, the project is not economically viable, and one of the reasons that it is "cost-effective" is that costs are diverted elsewhere rather than internalized in the project. Welcome to Socialism American Style! Private companies want the force of law to socialize their cost and risk, but privatize the resulting profits.

Japan - Terrifying…
The nuclear industry exists because they do not have to cover or internalize all the costs. For example, in the US, nuclear reactor owners must purchase $375M in liability insurance for $400k per year from a single company set up for this purpose. Above that threshold, the industry self-insures for another $12B. After that the taxpayer is on the hook. How many $Million homes in California are covered by $12B? What might be the liability in Japan? Who will pick up the claims? I don't know, but I bet it isn't a free market solution like a private insurance company. The point is this: if nuclear power is so safe, then why aren't insurance companies fighting tooth and nail for this low hanging fruit?

OT Verizon to recode all online video
"That's how all other utilities work & internet is more like a utility vs anything else. " That's not how the cable TV companies want to charge me for programming access. Flat rate, all I can watch is the norm. If they want to put a meter on internet access, then why not on cableTV - just pay for what you watch. If they did that, they might get me back as a customer. After all, it is the same cables supplying both TV and internet.

OT: New Canon XA10
I received an email ad from BHPhoto - and these were placed side by side. Twins or clones. My guess is the "pro"model has more features, perhaps some just enabled in software, such as maybe 24 Mbps in the pro, perhaps less in the consumer. Otherwise, I expect a lot of commonality.

Render setting to stream HD to new Apple TV?
Make sure you update the ATV software. There have been two updates since the product was released, and they have fixed some rather serious problems, and it might help you too. I use El Gato and EyeTV on my miniMac for my PVR, and generally set it to render in iPad format. Plays fine. Totally OT: Email computer for wife
CD - That's what happened to me. Managed to watch first two episodes of Babyon5 on the iPad before losing it forever to the wife and teenagers. I bought the 3G version thinking I might use that feature when on holiday - especially since no contractracts and you cant turn on / cancel anytime on line. Just used it on WiFi so far. Having spent my entire career with Word / Excel / Powerpoint, I find the office apps to be a bit limited - but what can you expect from a $10 word processor. Two best things are instant on / off and 13 hour battery life. Also, for most of its intended use - portable internet access - not having a keyboard or mouse /trackpoint is and advantage IMHO. Good Luck. iPad - it changes everything :^)

OT: How do I upload my Videos to my iPhone?
Use iTunes and add the file to your movie or TV library. Then manually or auto synch with the iPhone. Works the same way for iPxd

Well... pathetic sounds a little bit harsh for a $50B company. As for the iPhone, it is true that it accounts for about 1% of cell phone sales, but returns about 20% of total industry profits. Sounds to me that Mr. Jobs has identified and taps into the target market quite well. OT: Youtube 1080 Performance
720p plays well for me. 1080p stutters badly - but not a YouTube problem, as the RedBufferBar gets longer. My MacBook Core Duo can't handle 1080p. Speakeasy.net says I'm getting 5.2 Mbps on a cable modem.

Is it worthwhile networking my old computer?
Yet another thought: I use non-distributed rendering to start a background render on the machine I'm using. Then I assign the batch render to "low priority" in the task manager. This way, when not much else is happening on the PC, the background render gets as many CPU cycles as it can, but when I want to surf or something else with "normal" priority, performance is good. I think I read about this on these forums some years ago.

CPU question (i7-920 vs i7-860) 6 core support
i9 50% Speedup over i7 - If everything scales perfectly efficiently, one would expect 6 cores to be 50% faster than 4 cores, and 6x faster than a single core. But everything is not totally effiicient, so the verbage of "up to 50% faster" provides the wiggle room. 8 cores should be "up to 100% faster than 4 cores" Real cores that is.

First glance at the list thought they had excluded cult movies - no Plan 9 or Rocky Horror Show.... But then I saw Night of the Living Dead, RepoMan, and SpinalTap. Go figure. No predicatbility on critics' tastes.
