Burning BluRay Image Errors
I haven't tried it from the timeline with a BR disc, but burning HD-BR on a standard DVD I only get re-renders from the m2t when there is an effect, a disslove or other transistion. Otherwise, I get a message in the preview window during the preparation of something to the effect "Re-render not needed".

Serious render flaw V7 and V8
Just tried the same test with a couple of clips using MB2. Running a core duo 4gigs of ram. The first 100 frames took 1:25 to render and then I muted the second track and the first 100 frames took 2 seconds.

Wow... how crap does HDV look on a 1080p panel...
I "grew up" shooting 35mm negative in the Mitchell BNC and Arri with Cooke primes. Watched a lot of dalies in lab screening rooms that looked great. Saw it in the theatre and it looked like crap. My HDV video looks really good on the 46" Bravia. In fact, even down rezed in the camera "squeezed" to SD then expanded on the Bravia it looks pretty amazing (even when I put my glasses on). I guess I'm not "picky" enough, but it sounds like something is wrong!

PS3, A difference Between 40/80 gig version?
And, I don't think the 40 gig version has wireless connectivity.

What did I forget?
Unfortunately, they are not all highlighted. But each thumbnail brings all the clips to the timeline. Even more strange, if I right click and select "open in trimmer" each thumbnail, no matter what scene, only opens the first clip in the trimmer.

OT: Removing Interlacing on 1080i footage
John - I remember back in the 60's when I was a film Cinematographer panning with the Worall gear head and a Mitchell BNC trying to get smooth movement and the shots always looked like a flip card book with stuttering pans no matter how hard I tried to crank those gears smoothly. 24 fps is NOT the way to go!

PRO 8a CAPTURE PROBLEM
Both the Vegas Vid Cap and Scenalyser see the Canopus card as the Microsoft DV camera etc. but to get Scenalyser to capture, I have to go to Movie Maker and capture a few seconds of footage, either analog or DV. Then I switch to Scenalyser and it works fine. Same with vid cap in Vegas. But neither will work until I open Movie Maker and start a capture. This all happened after installing VPro8a.

Vegas Video LE edition
I got my Vegas 3LE with my Canopus 1394 card. I think that was the last one.

OT: Am I Wrong
Thanks for confirming that my oldtimers disease is not as advanced as I was thinking. Actually, I started with 3LE that came with my Canopus card and I was able to do it back then. By-the-by - I misquoted Studio Monthly - I should have said "timeline" and not "tileline".

9:16 mask - best method
Do you really want to mask to 9:16 or 16:9? The most common mask would be 16:9 and that's a standard option in Vegas.

DVDA RECOMPRESS
Yes - yes -and yes. I agree it's very strange. Every time I have ever had this happen before it was "pilot error" and I had done something stupid, This time I've rendered 4 different time - twice last night and twice today with the same results. Just to be sure DVDA4 hadn't done something weird, I brought in another project which had been burned before and it burned fine with no re-render.

A better noise reduction tool?
For those not familiar with it, let me suggest another good option for noise reduction and audio processing - DC6 from Diamond Cut Productions. This software was originally designed for removing background noise, pops, clicks and the like from old audio disc but has evolved into much more. It will open your AVI files with video and audio directly from Vegas with a right click and has incredible filters, noise reduction and audio processing tools with every parameter adjustable. You want your audio to sound like it went through a tube preamp - DC6 does it and you select the tube - 12AX7, etc. I use both Sound Forge and DC6. But, the DC6 noise reduction works great and the various equalizers, filters, compressors and expanders are extremely flexible http://www.diamondcut.com/

OT: How to stop Epson ink primer waste?
"So, here's my question: For those that are experts, is there a way to clear those lights when the CD/DVD tray gets ejected due to a misfeed, but without turning off the printer and causing the printer to waste ink? Also, is there a way to reduce or eliminate misfeeds? I am very careful about aligning the little arrows on the tray and the printer in-feed." Once in a while I have this problem, but what you do is wait until it goes through the rejection and the software print montior says there was a feed problem, then move the printer tray back to the arrow and press the paper feed button. It feeds the tray back in properly and prints properly without recharging the cartridges. I have used Epson printers since 1996 and found that most people who complain of problems have never read the manual. Sometimes I wonder if people who have problems with Epson might be professional victims. If you have always used HP you have my sympathy.

DVDA 4.0b Build 166 now up!
The GUI is a little different on 4 and prepare seems a little quicker - but that's just subjective. I think the big difference is the ability to use scripts. It's been rock solid for me but then I've never had problems with DVD other than any limitations the various versions might have had.

I tried preparing a short project in 4b last night. When I checked it in PGCEdit, it still complained of the same redundant stream as in the previous versions so if PGCEdit is correct, it looks as if the problem is not corrected,

AUDIO PLUG-INS DEFAULT
Kelly - Sorry, but it doesn't work. If I follow your instructions, any time I add a new track to the project, it still comes in with noise gate, compressor, and eq still checked.

Precise .PNG Transparency App or Solution?
There was a problem with Corel PSP 11 and png's. This has been corrected in a new patch just released and png's from PSP 11 now work fine in Vegas with transparency.
