Problems after upgrading to Windows XP Pro
Probably not much help, but I have used V3, V4, 5, 6 and now 7c on XP Pro without a problem, so for what it's worth - it will work.

Loop DVD program
One thing to keep in mind if you are going to display the DVD continuously, repeatedly playing the DVD over and over amounts to a life expectancy test and many people report that after several weeks of repeated playing, the read laser degrades the dye and the DVD eventually will not play.

DVD Burner
I'm one of the fortunate ones who has never had a probelm with any of a dozen different DVD burners and DVDA. It's just always worked.

Click filter
One of my favorite audio editors is Diamond Cut 6 - or DC6. It has an automated click filter, the parameters of which can be changed to fit the size of the click. Or, you can zoom in on a click and hit "i" on the keyboard and it replaces the click with a sound interpolated from the surrounding audio. The program was designed to restore old discs or tapes and has incredible filters and noise reduction. Also used for forensic restoration.

Redundant Audio Streams and V7?
I found the quote from the DVDA forum: "Further clarification from Customer Support. "The issue is going to be addressed in the first update that comes out for DVD Architect (4), not the initial release." As to DVDA1, DVDA2, or DVDA3 I don't think there are any plans to address this problem at this time. Which is not., for me, a positive state of affairs and points to Sony being more concerned with the new release than fixing the old one. Regards Stephen Hope New Hope Media

The answer that I remember from Sony was that it would be fixed in the first update to DVDA 4 but not in the original release.

The Canopus boxes are excellent. My wife and I both use them for broadcast use and they are flawless.

OT: Vote... What's the *best Titler software?
I agree that PS is great, but let me suggest a little program called Draw Plus 8 for creating titles and lower thirds. You can do transparent backgrounds, including a transparent black, bevel and 3D letters, shadows and whatever you want. It also works with layers and you can save each layer as a PNG and open in Vegas. Other than the fact it is not a plug-in, it is just as flexible as Cayman Graphics. Then you can fade and move various layers in Vegas. I use it all the time to create opens and closes with various layers moving in different directions and all coming together in the end. Vic - you're right. This whole upgrade thing is a "hoot". Never seen such handwringing over $149.

How to improve a VHS transfer to DVD?
I don't know what you're doing, but, my work is normally for broadcast or cable. Recently, I have been making DVD's from VHS tapes for the kids to watch on a 3 week trip to NYC and Boston. I've been using the Mike Crash dynamic noise reduction filter. The renders are long but...WOW! I've never seen VHS look like this. Vegas and Mike Crash + DVD-A...what a combination! I also use the bitrate calculator referenced here in the past, and when you put them all together...how could you ask for more from a VHS? I remember the days with local 644 and Kodak 5254. Why didn't we jhave this stuff then????

It would be great to choose what you want to run on the network, but when you work for one of the largest media companies in the world, youi can't choose their spyware/virus programs.

the problem is that the network slows the machine sooooooo much. It's always running a spy sweep or virus scan and if you are on the network, u can't shut it off.

Glad you can do AVI's... I didn't remember that because IP4 was a quickly lived option. Hope it works OK...I know IP5 works great!

Steve - I have been using Serif products since 1996 and they have some great offerings for ridiculous prices. Their real forte is desktop publishing and their offering runs rings around Quark and similar programs. They just released their Movie Plus 5 which is very much like Vegas (even the desktop looks much the same). But, I wouldn't use any Impact but the latest version 5. I'm not even sure that the version 4 can export in AVI, but I might be wrong. Impact Plus 5 is a great title program and I use it all the time doing 3D titles for local clients. Also, their Draw Plus 8 is great for titles and simple 2D animations. Also, they have a great forum (even better than this if you can believe it!) where the programmers activately participate. I once had a problem with an install and they wrote a special program to solve my problem.

Blur Edges of Insert
BUMP - Perhaps I didn't explain this very well. I have a PIP in the upper left corner of the screen (about 1/4 frame) and I want the insert to have feathered edges. We do this in Toaster all the time and I have done it in Vegas B4, but I can't remember how. Any suggestions?

Way OT: Charcoal or Propane?
If you're going to grill with gas,why not just cook inside? Charcoal is the only way to go - no lighter fluid either. You have to have a chimney to start it properly (like what John described). I've stood in the rain, in the snow, and even used a propane torch (there is a use for gas) to melt the ice on the charcoal grill so I could open it. It was worth it every time!

Lets give resolving the "flash frame" issue another shot.
John - I use Turtle Beach Santa Cruz and Vegas 6d and have never had a problem with flash/black frames. I don't normally operate with the audio control panel open and I've done 3 90 minute shows this past month.
