Audio Challenge
Looking at this on the averaging function of DC6's spectrum analyzer, it appears as though the real culprit is the bass part of the piano keyboard. The frequencies below a couple of hundred Hz change very little in level and the harmonic distortion measures between 30% and 90%. Not a good thing. I tried to EQ on the paragraphic equalizer and lower the offending levels, then run the declipper. It helped some, but once you get the levels adjusted, you're left with the IM distortion in the voice. Not very encouraging.

DVD extraction errors
SAme here...after downloading 6d, DVD's that I created and extracted a few weeks ago, no longer worked. I could not extract VOB's from my own CD's that I made from DVD A.

OT: Photoshop Levels vs Paint Shop Pro
In PSP 8 you can adjust the individuals levels from within the histogram tool and there is another tool for setting B&W points. Also under adjust brightness and contrast there is a LEVELS tool for adjusting overall, plus red, blue and green levels.

AVG - Got stung by a virus with Norton several years ago and loaded AVG (free) on both computers. A few days later AVG caught the same virus on my other computer and got rid of it when Norton couldn't. Plus - AVG - you never know it's there unlike the Norton Hog!

BUG: Nested Stills Veg = Very Wrong Duration
Never had this problem on 6c. Just tried again to be sure I wasn't having a senior moment and it worked fine.

OT: Software for printing onto DVD disc
There's a great program called Draw Plus 7 - a vector graphics program - that I used to print to the Epson R200. It's made by a companyt called SERIF in England. There's even a free version 5.0 available for download. I used to export as a PNG with transparency from this program then import into the Epson software, but then I created a template and print directly from the program. Makes for beautiful CD/DVD's.

Render for PSP - MPEG4?
The 3GP converter is designed to work with AVI files. If you try to use wmv you'll get an error that the codec is not available.

Audio Guys... May I borrow your ear?
Every audio guy and wannabees can pick at this because they would have EQ'd it differently, but having run studios since 1966, I'd say that overall it is very good. The S/N is acceptable - sure there are a few extranious sounds that could be minimized. Perhaps a little more mid-bottom but it's much better than poorly or over EQ'd VO's.

How to author UMDs?
If you want to get your own video onto the PSP, the best way is thru the memory stick. The PSP actually is MPG4 format, but there are some specific ways to do it including creating some specific root folders on the memory stick. If you don't do that, the PSP will not recognize the video. Do a web search and you'll find the instructions. I tried it a few weeks ago using a downloaded free MPG4 encoder. It was actually pretty simple and I transferred about 2-3 minutes of video I had edfited in Vegas. The picture on this little machine is stunning and the widescreen format makes it seem even bigger. I can see a real potential use for this gadget if I can ever get it away from my 12 year old son. The UMD's could probably be done the same way, but getting the blanks and the carrier might prove problematic. That's why the memory stick is the best way to go for now.

Interesting thing when I add Celluloid 1.1 to V6b. The old celluloid icon on the toolbar has been replaced by a generic scripting icon which doesn't work. If I customize the toolbar and add the correct Celluloid icon, all is fine. However, next time I open V6, the Celluloid icon has again been replaced by the non-functioning scripting icon.

Ultimate S 2.0 is now available from VASST
Does the new Celluloid work with V6? There is no mention of it on the web site. I have been using the old version with 6 and it works fine.

Is there a problem with the VASST web site? I received an email today to upgrade to Celluloid 1.1 and that download worked. Haven't installed. But the link to Reel Pak download is dead and the "CONTACT" link shows "page cannot be found".

Vegas 6.0b for download
I've been holding off on loading 6 from the disc until the patches were ready. Is 6b a patch or full install? Should I just install from the download using the disc serial number?

Strange event in Vegas 5
I use two cards - the Turtle Beach Santa Cruz with WDM drivers and the Behringer BCA200 USB mixer card with WDM (Asio 2 drivers are not ready yet), At the time the TBSC was in use.

Reaching for the expander
Might I also suggest in addition to those in the other replies, a program called DC6 from Diamond Cut productions. While originally designed for removing noise from phonograph records (remember those) I find it works great removing noise of virtually any type, plus it has an incredible array of expander/compressors, noise gates, etc. and other noise removal tools. If you like, you can even "sweeten" the sound with a virtual 12AX7 vacuum tube and it allows you to import and play the video as an AVI file also. In fact, as much as I like Sound Forge, DC is set as my default audio editor in vegas. There is even a rather "pricey" version for forensic use to extract inaudible audio from noise.

OT: Ink bleed on printable DVD media
Never had a problem with the R200 on Riteks. I do spray with a clear gloss spray. Someone here suggested a few months ago to use one of the pancake DVD/CD packs with the center post shortened. Place the finsihed DVD on one of the clear plastic blanks over the post and spray. I've done this scores of times and never gotten any bleed over to the recorded side.

OT: How did they do effects in the old days?
All of the above are correct...back in the 70's when I was a DP, the people at the optical house could do anything we can do today with computers. I once shot a scene in front of 2 thousand extras and it required a very slow zoom in with a 20:1 Panavision lens on a speaker in front of the crowd. Somewhere in the middle of the 2 minute zoom, the platform the camera was on was bobbled by one of the crew and the image on screen jerked horizontally. We didn't notice it until the next day when the "rushes" came back from the lab. Rather than reshooting the whole thing with all the extras, we gave it to the optical house (Exceptional Opticals) in New York and they were able to compensate, frame by frame, for the movement and fixed the scene. Somewhat like using the track motion feature in Vegas. WOW! It sure is easier and cheaper now but we could do it.
