Looking at the ASCII character code chart I don't see a musical note listed. I don't think you can do it with a standard font. Kent

OT: hard drive prices going up?
Just bought a new 1Tb HDD on Friday and it had gone up $10 since Thursday. Salesman said they had been told price of next shipment may go up $150. Kent

DataVideo DN60 recorder?
I use it with the Sony A1u and it has performed flawlessly right out of the box. Suggest you stick with Sandisk cards. Others seem to corrupt after a while. Kent

OT: need file merger utility
Have you tried the utility from DataVideo for their DV60 when used with Fat32 formatted cards? I think it runs on Win7 but not sure if it will work with MXF files. OT - Stereo Shotgun Mics
Have used the AT only briefly on one shoot but I have the Sanken CSS5. It has variable pickup angle and sounds great for dialogue and well as general ambient recording. Have used it for concerts and interviews with outstanding results. You'll probably be happy with your results with the AT. Kent

VP10e Render Question
Thanks Nick but no joy with older QT either. What's so strange, if I render files to another drive, I can move or copy them to the problem drive and they play fine. And. like I said, I can render any other format but QT to the new drive. I agree that it sounds like a QT thing but why just this drive? Verrrrry strange. Kent

Stephen - Why would you need multi-core rendering in DVDA? If the file is encoded properly, it doesn't need anything re-rendered. Kent

Audio Distortion Help Needed (from 16mm film)
John - If this was a kinescope recording, remember, they were shot in a darkened room with a 16mm camera recording with a built-in optical track recorder in the camera. The camera was pointed at a CRT which was fed the live video to be recorded. Having made many many optical recordings when I ran a film lab, the built-in optical valves in (usually) the Auricon 16mm camera were no match for a true optical track recorder which would have been used to make the Woodstock print, for example. So, in actuallity, the recoding is not that bad - if indeed it was a kinescope (which I missed the first time through). Kent

Audio Distortion Help Needed (from 16mm film)
John - This is pretty typical of 16mm optical tracks, but the THD averages around 46% which IS excessive. I'll play with it tonight and see what I can do. A quick test with a paragraphic EQ at the harmonics made only minimal improvement but as I said, it was a quick test. I'll try to spend some time on it tonight and get back to you. Kent

Blocking dc-bias
The Beachtek response is correct in one respect. The DC blocking capacitor alone will not solve the problem. By installing a capacitor on the camera side of the network and terminating it thru say a 10k resistor, the capacitor will remain charged. Then, install another capacitor on the Beachtek side of the network. When the camera is started and the DC bias turned on, the voltage is shunted to ground thru the 10k resistor) and the capacitor will be effective. This is the way noiseless switching is achieved in analog equipment. I would suggest use of 50mf tantalum capacitors with the resistor and caps installed in a small metal enclosure such as a 1/4" phono plug shell or XLR adaptor and the shield on the cable used to fabricate this as well as the ground side of the resistor be tied to the shell to eliminate hum and noise. So you end up with two capacitors in series with the center tap connected to ground thru a resistor. Feel free to email me thru the forum for schematic and fabrication suggestions. Kent

Soften Complexion
Edward (jetDV) is right. The NewBlueFX version 4 has Skin touch-up and is the way to go. You just need to be careful and like most effects, don't overdo the correction of the face or it looks fake - like it's painted on.

Any tips - Izotope RX - wind noise?
Although several people on this forum have mentioned they do not like the product because they do not like their web site, the Enchanced Audio software "Diamond Cut 8" does an outstanding job on wind noise. I recently had a shoot interviewing a nobel prize winner and the client insisted it be shot in a small courtyard between 3 buildings. Each had a LOUD air conditioner on the roof and there was a 30 knot wind that the foam windscreen with a dead cat over it that would not stop the noise on my AT nor my AKG shotguns. I ran it through the DC 8 continuous noise filter and voila - all the extraneous noise was gone. It's magic. Then I was left with people talking in the background that I had never heard because of the AC and wind noise. I was able to get rid of most all the the talking manually with the DC8 interpolate filter. And, I'm not even using the Forensic version! Like Larry, Vegas seems to like my hardware and I have very few problems even when using it all day, day after day. Most of my files are HDV and mov with which Vegas has no problem. I also have Serif's Movie Plus. I have been using their products since 1996 and they make a great drawing, a desktop publishing program. and a web creation program. For $79 their Movie Plus is pretty good but certainly not in the league with Vegas Pro. I sometimes use it to create animated titles which it does quite well and is much easier than the Vegas Pro Titler to use. I render them as an HD file and drop them on the T/L in Vegas and they look very good, but for serious editing, Movie Plus is more for hobby use. Kent

Net Frame 4.0 Okay for Windows XP 32bit??
Looks like the biggest problem with NET 4 is a problem install may not allow you to open programs that rely on it. If it installed OK, you should be fine.
