Audio Distortion using Frameserver
Thanks, John. The audio is perfectly clean in the avi file or the AVCHD file. I'm not using any effects on the audio either. The distortion doesn't sound like clipping. It's more a kind of compression artifact thats evident mostly on the high frequencies. I've just done a test whereby I made a DV file and then rendered that seperately in TMPGEnc and that audio is fine. It's just when using the Frameserver. Cheers.

Hi Byron, Thanks for your comments, they are much appreciated. If you're interested, I can give you the settings that I use for uploading to Youtube. I can't tell you why the audio sounds like it does. Youtube does strange things to audio and video and the results are sometimes unpredictable. I can still give you my settings if it'll help.... Absolutely Rory. I agree with you - that is if I was actually doing a "music video". I decided to rather go down the route of just a visual documentary of the recording process. I do appreciate your comments about the music etc but I am a little hamstrung trying to capture a certain mood when trying to record the instruments at the same time. If I decide to make an actual music video on location etc and using footage to portray the mood I want, that's a whole different story. As of now though I just want to get the "making of " DVD finished. It is something that I might want to look at in the future. Thanks for your feedback. It is appreciated. Cheers, Peter.

My latest video shot "live in the studio" -
I hear what everyone says and appreciate the feedback. These shots were shot at different times during the recording of the album. I wanted to eventually make a DVD of the recording process showing the various parts on the various instruments. As I'm the one playing virtually all the instruments (except drums) it was a very difficult job. These videos were never meant to be aired as "music videos" where everything is "cut to the beat etc" but just a visual peek at the actual playing of the instruments. I have quite a few musician friends following me on various social media platforms and they have expressed an interest in having a look at how and where the various parts in the songs were played. This is why it was edited in this way. I am working on the things like camera movement etc but obviously need help with extra people etc. I am in the process of filming interviews explaining certain aspects of the songs and recordings which will also "sandwich" inbetween the songs. The different colour hues etc are part and parcel of the tracks and yes, they do look like they weren't part of the same shoot because they weren't. I adopted the approach that I used because for the DVD, any footage is better than no footage. I do appreciate everyone's feedback and it is something that I'll look at for future "in swtudio shots". The main thing for me is of course that most of the viewers seemed to enjoy the music. Cheers, Peter.

Thanks for watching. I hear what you're saying. This is not so much a "music video" as such but more a kind of documentary of the recording of the song. It's going to be part of a "making of" DVD. I will be shooting interviews etc. The studio is also quite small so I have to work with what I have. Glad you enjoyed the music though. Cheers Peter.

Disabling audio automatic gain control
Thanks for replying. I've investigated a bit further and discovered that it's actually Windows Media Player that applying AGC to the audio. If I bring the final video into Vegas and preview it there, the audio is fine. Cheers, Peter.

Hi Bob, Yes, I'm pretty sure of that. I'm still getting my head around the lighting issues. The coloured lights do make a huge difference to the overall "mood" of the videos but it's quite difficult to get the "balance" of enough natural light with still enough of the colours as well. To lose the colours makes for a very "stark" feel to the videos. I do want to eventually upgrade to HD cameras but at this stage the VX2000 is all I've got. Thanks Craftech, I'll be sure to tell Clint about your comment. He'll be really chuffed. We're away at the moment (a very short tour). Your comments are really appreciated. I'm in full agreement about efx. The whole industry has become far more "image" conscious than "music" conscious these days... @wwjd you joke about compressing to -4dB but in reality it's the sad truth. I have quite a few clients who regularly ask for their masters to be cranked up to around -4dB on average. Very very sad... Cheers, Peter.
