VEGAS Pro 20 Build 214 General Thread
Thank you guys...read ending above and just a small and hopefully last note on this subject: I discovered that all the projects Vegas 20 was unhappy about me using were from Vegas 19. It would have been helpful if the popups had stated that too but perhaps they couldn't tell. All is well this morning in Montgomery county, PA. Paul

Sorry for opening so many boxes but EDIT works only for a limited space of time. I think I have the popup figured out because sometimes I'll get a list of the same project a dozen or more times repeated and when I just click on OK it quickly throws them out somewhere. This happens after I have deleted several frames and replace these with ones with better drawings. This is apparently a utility to help the user know that the original project has lost certain elements; anywhere from a single missing frame to an entire collection of changed source instances. It is trying to be helpful to regular movie makers but because of my differing pipeline it becomes a tiresome nag. It's interesting that Vegas is maybe following every change in my project source as they happen, not just upon arrival. If I click on OK the utility is happy that I acknowledge it's services of a do-gooder. Just like a real life nag. Just in fairness to the developers I solved the issue. I was cleaning out and deleting my redundant versions of my project and after keeping just my last one to continue working with it the popup has never showed up again. Thank you j-v for hanging with me which is the best part of this forum!

I wonder if I can be the only one who has to deal with this popup every time I enter a project or just open the app.If that is the case then perhaps I have missed a setting or some such error whilst creating my GUI layout. Can you think of some setting or string of settings I should look at in search of the popup's source?

I will need it eventually so it would be better stated if I say I have put it aside and it is no more listed when I open my next project (or scene). As an animator I am drawing each scene which means I am creating a scene frame by frame. My WIP requires that I periodically check my progress in Vegas which gives me a more accurate playback on a larger screen than my animation app. Therefore I am reopening scenes many times under the same name but with more frames. Out of curiosity I reopened the scene which my popup claims is missing and I got the same claim that this scene is missing so something is screwy with this popup and in my opinion should be rechecked by the developers.

No, but I tried now and as expected, Vegas opens with no project so I double clicked my current project and it instantly opens along with the strange popup... quite expected in my view. Wait, but inside it says : A nested project source media file (the old one) was not found. Well, why would it, should it be found? Another thought: Is there a way that I could disable the popup so that I wouldn't have to deal with it since it doesn't seem to be giving me any useful information - at least that I can think of?

Each time I open my Vegas 20 I get a popup that says: Warning: An error occurred while loading the project file SEASONS WITH DOGS.veg Some streams in the media file could not be opened. Under OK or Details>> A nested project source media was not found (followed by the sources name.avi At times there might be 5 or even 10 of these, all older projects, ending with the current project at the bottom. Having no idea what to do with this information, I select OK and never find anything amiss with the project and continue working on it. Any ideas for me?

Thank you once more jetdv. That part I knew but couldn't make it work until I figured out it needs hold down with CTRL only to dock it., nevertheless I have my layout all back as I need it and am ready to edit again in a new version and BTW, not a prescription version as I thought V 20 would be but a real updating one. Swell!

That's beyond my capacity. Between what is Magix and what Vegas I am lost and I'm guessing that j-v knows this about me and he's right: Live with it. I'm not a computer programmer I draw pictures for a living and I've been getting away with doing that for 64 years. It's a shame though and I have nothing more to say on this sad topic.

DMT3 I have now.😡 j-v Truth told, I don't know what I use. I get a notice there's an upgrade and I download it and enter my long number to register the new upgrade. Therefore I attempted to download "There's a new update to 19" and get burned. Somewhere someone wrote that the upgrade to 19 is 20. Well that's malarkey. An upgrade is a new and improved Vegas 19. 20 is a different kind of product.

There's something unfair about this solution. I don't have another subscription number (why would I have one anyway?) And the other solution which just amounts to: "so just live with it" is not a solution, it's an insult. Are you really saying that MAGIX has no intention to fix this malfunction of the software that is caused by some negligence on their part? This is not happening for the first time either.

Vegas 19 - after update lost license
Same here. I download Vegas update from my project opening and when completed it crashes Vegas. What's going on? Is there a Vegas 19 update for real? The last time this happened to me everyone was surprised and some here were hesitant to believe me. That was yesterday. Right now I'm "downloading" again but am prepared for failure. "download" of update went fast and I'm getting now Vegas 20. Is this a free update? I am confused because there seems to be no announcement of this sort on this forum.... This is nuts: I watched Vegas download and "install' 20 but all that I see in my files is 19, which I can open and upon opening I get all over again the popup that There is an update for 19 including a list of changes and fixes. I've been through this once before so I don't trust Vegas this time and will continue working with 19 which I am supposed to not have anymore. ****Here I am again. The mystery continues. I made a screen grab of the fathom There is an update of 19 to prove that I'm not making this stuff up but the screenshot never shows up. It's as if I am photographing a ghost. I actually like 19 and am perfectly happy with my work on it so I'm going back to work and won't bother anyone here anymore (not that anyone is complaining). :) ♿🚴

Is there really or not really a new update of Vegas 19? I ask because once more an update appeared on my Vegas 19 when I first opened it and I ran it even though it's not the fastest way to do such things and when the progress line had filled in, Vegas crashed. I came here then to look for the more efficient way to go about downloads, but once more, I don't see any signs of this update. I write this in lieu of the last update when you guys were surprised that I got this false alarm at all and it looks like it is happening to me again. True, or false?

@Musicvid My wife, who is my only collaborator has a fine arts painting education and work experience and is considered by most of our peers the finest background painter in the business. After observing how she matches colors for over thirty years I have come to the conclusion she has perfect color pitch the way only some musicians have perfect tone pitch. While most animators will choose their colors from a color wheel by trial and error, she chooses hers only with the slider gadget and this she can do in a matter of two or three seconds because she knows exactly which color she is after. So in our case she is the best calibrator for our needs and always hated my monitors because all our work passes back and forth on our monitors through both of our screens. Once she saw my discovery of switching to the Game menu she was ecstatic that she can finally see her proper colors on my monitors too. She once bought the Spyder and couldn't get along with it for reasons I can't remember but she is our team's best calibrator. If you look at our Vimeo films you will understand what I am talking about but Vimeo also has a tendency to over-saturate. Just understand that each one of those backgrounds are watercolor paints without the water and to watch her put on the layers of hues as she paints is a feast for the eyes, she knows that well what she wants from the first stroke and color selection which has nothing in common for us with what ends up on her paintings. When I say I work in a dark room it is actually just a corner of our living room with many windows covering three of the walls but Sandra is also a horticulturist and our entire house is surrounded with tall shrubs and trees letting in very little sunshine. I have the window curtains in my corner always drawn so the darkness is a sort of lush darkness of the woods - but dark enough to have a need for a small electric light for me to find things on the top of my desk. But I get up often to let two dogs in and out of the house as is their wont which is all the time. I also do most of my drawing work at night time and editing during daylight hours because I need to always hear the film's soundtracks. I sleep about 4 hours a day with a couple of power naps throughout. I've been working like this since 1958 -- same type of lighting and still don't need glasses throughout most of the hours (and read a lot from a Kindle). We are all animals of varying species.

Yes, I checked the Help number once I realized I went backward and the popup was still showing up each time I restarted Vegas. I checked my numbers under Help several times. The thing is, most bug fixes go right over my head because I don't even encounter the bugs so many of you do because of the way I use Vegas but trust me, I spend at this stage of my work more hours with Vegas than TVPaint. Most of you would notice the backward build number just by the return of certain bugs so for that reason I could have remained with 643 and never know about it if I wouldn't follow these threads. By the way, when I was checking my monitors, all four of them to fix the calibration issue, on two of them (the two of which are Asus and those were not calibrated correctly) I by mistake turned on the Gaming setting under Menu, which really took me by surprise how well my work appeared before I realized that for me, that has to actually be the best setting because all I work with is hand drawn animation, line drawn with dippy pen thinness so the game setting is of course a natural -- this to just document what kind of issues I run into. By the way, wouldn't those of you with an intimate approach to the Vegas workings be able to see I have downloaded both those builds twice. I upgrade and register every new one as soon as they are released, usually the first day. I've been with Vegas since #6 and have gone through each build == now I can say 'and a couple of those twice" 🙃

Well, yes. I was opening 643 to continue my current work when that popup showed up and I just grabbed it without giving it much thought and even praised here the ease with which the "upgrading" worked. But I must add that reverting back to 643 was also a piece of cake.🎂 Vegas Pro 20 sounds useful.

Ha! While juxtaposing the best frame to snip I noticed for the first time that my entire monitor is darker with somewhat smaller sized graphics in comparison to the two surrounding monitors. I was having Windows calibration troubles recently with the monitors and there lies the squirrel. I keep my coloring theme on the darkest, therefore I never noticed this before. My age and keeping my room dark must have something to do with this as well though I had my cataracts removed several years ago. Thank you Roger anyway, your attention to settings was helpful.

Before I do that I should mention that I had reverted to build 636 without paying attention to the number, trusting that a popup invitation to do this made me believe this is the latest Build. Should I go back to the true latest? I ask because I now believe this is when that change of preview colors must have occurred.

VEGAS Pro 19 Update 5 (Build 643)
This to many might be a small event but for me it's a big enough deal to say thank you in this thread: Finally a very clear and prominent icon at the left of the event's name of a padlock slapped a big smile on my face. So convenient, so smart and as far as I know, no one has ever asked for it before -- including myself. Just right and wonderful. Thank you!📯

Thanks fellows. View Active Take Information is what does it. This used to be done in preferences and I've noticed that some HELP items still refer to hamburgers.
