Will we see a 5.5 or 6 Upgrade or is this program considered lagacy by sony?

I would consider it as legacy since no one from Sony never gave any comment on the future of CDA 5.

FX freeze, VST-DX adapter and UAD problems with Vegas

I would have gone for Directixer because their version 2.5 supports latency compensation. The problem you are explaining (tracks out of time) is because the current VST Cakewalk adapter doesn't support latency compensation (but should be out soon because the latest patch for Sonar 3 adds this support) For the VST transport, it is supported by the both adapters only in DXi mode :-\ It is a serious lack of the DX format.

Event FX

I look forward to hear some news about CDA from Sony media software... The event fx issue seems to be a big deal though... I heard that only Samplitude is implementing that properly.

OT:

The next microsoft upgrade for end-users OS is going to be in many years (2006 ?) They released recently Windows Server 2003 but it is a server os. But their biggest move was windows 2000, since this OS, they all share the same core. What problem have you been experiencing with windows XP ? Most users are very happy with windows XP. Some other people are more happy with windows 2000 pro... Any of them is worth the change towards a win 98 based pc ! On my setup, it is so stable that I don't even need to reboot my DAW for a week (I am using the hibernation to turn it off every day).

Speakin of...

Nero 6 is a fantastic software package. $49 is bank for the bucks for sure ! But it is far from having all the "pro" features CDA 5 got. Nero 6 still doesn't support 24/32 bits wav files. But... the audio application supports crossfades and probably does a good job in making red book compliant cds. And there is no fx per event neither fx per track... the vst/directx support is limited to their audio editor. I will be using Nero 6 + sound forge until an update allows me to use CDA as a mastering application. Please Mr. Sony !!!!

Lets get SERIOUS

There is a sonar 2 demo on cakewalk web site. Sonar 2 has crossfades and similar kind of pin point split (scissors tool). Why don't you give it a try ? btw, the audio engine does not cut out at 26-28 tracks... it scales pretty well. The audio engine works in 32 bits so there are no issues of bit-depth/dithering.

Did you try Sonar ? It should meet all your requirements. And btw, multicard Deltas suck... even with their very latests drivers the synchronization between the cards is not perfect. For multicards, I believe the best is to use then in WDM mode. In Sonar, the WDM latencies are usually as low as ASIO.

I would simply say that currently CDA is unusable... but maybe now that SF has updated ALL other applications, we might have some hope for some bugfixes ?

Per-track plugin issue and feature request...

I hope much to see an update for CD architect in these days... I think they were busy with Vegas recently. CD Architect actually reminds me of Vegas 3.0c which then was dropped. I just read that Sofo has been bought by Sony. Hopefully they will continue to support most of their products !!!

Good to see

Nero has a graphical editor too... It is far from Sound Forge but allows you to set indexes and set tracks ;) I was just a bit upset to have this bug in CDA or else it would be such a fantastic product.

I hope to see an update which fix the fx per event bug. It makes CDA not better for me at this point that Nero (have to apply all mastering fx in Sound Forge). If this was working I could do all my mastering with it. Erik.

And I believe that if there was an ISO file export or something similar, people would not mind about the drive support. By this way you would be able to burn the cd using Roxio or Nero (which are supporting almost every existing drive!).

What the F*&%$ Happened to Dual Processor Support??

Multi threading in audio applications is a very big issue and very complex stuff. I think it was much a matter of luck that Vegas 2 was performing well using two processors. Today, only Nuendo (not even Cubase !) has been optimized for multi threading. Besides, Pentium 4 hyperthreading and multi processor support is the same beast = multi threading. And I think technically it all gets more complex with low latencies ! ASIO allows buffer down to few milliseconds and Vegas < 4 were using MME buffers which are around hundred milliseconds.

How to burn CDA projects in Nero

The Burning Issue

I cannot agree more on any of these issues !!!! ISO would be beneficial to everyone here. Most guys probably have an external burning software which has a *monthly* upgrade to support new drives and correct burning specific problems (thinking to nero for instance). I have been asking too for the render of a track. I do all my mastering in CDA and I would like much being able to save a rendered track in PCA format for archieving (wav be fine too) and reusing my mastered tracks in other projects and convert them to mp3. I didn't saw any answer from sofo on this subject. Usually it means that we will have to wait for the next version.

CDA phone home

I found out on Windows XP that the overload and security were not a problem at all. I can hardly see the CPU use of the connection with the XP firewall and internet sharing (I have a DSL connection with an USB modem). I never had problems running Sonar with low latency and keeping the internet connection on. The XP scheduling is doing pretty fine !

You should have a look at www.wavearts.com they do a similar kind of plug-in called trackplug which is much less expensive than this striptool and very high quality. Erik.

Sound Forge CDA Poll

I see Sound Forge as an audio editing application and it does it job very well. I don't want this application to have multiple events and second audio layers. That would make a bloated audio editing app. I use CDA as a mastering application and I miss in CDA few mastering features. So my answer is Nae
