Vegas v9- 32bit to 64bit System, Will it Work?
I use v9 32 bit on win 7 64 just fine. There is a 64 bit ver, but many of my plugs were not ready for 64 when I upgraded. I have looked at 10, 11 and 12, the only thing that I really miss is better support for AVCHD footage. (I still transcode for these)

OT: HV20 recorded footage, but no playback?
If you can see it in the viewer, maybe you can capture the video out. It wont be as high rez as the firewire out, but better than nothing. (If you have a way to capture the video out)

Your advice for fattening podcast audio vocals
All good suggestions in this post. The main issue is normally the initial recording. You want enough sound treatment (NOT egg cartons or foam - yuck) to dampen your room. Just enough - for a pod cast you dont want to sound like you are in a vocal booth. <soapbox> First audio priority, proper sound treatment, not $1K Mic <\soapbox> (BTW I see Ethan Winer here now and again) Compression is your friend for fat, but keep in mind you are compressing the dynamic range, thus anything that is quiet and in the background is going to get louder. To address the gate issue, see if your gate has a depth, or a wet dry setting. This will let some of the signal through even when the gate is closed and it wont seem as choppy. If you havent checked out the Free plugs from reaper you should. They are very lightweight and stack up to many of the expensive ones I own: http://reaper.fm/reaplugs/index.php (They are VST)

Editing workflow questions
Tx musicvid, pretty much follow all of your suggestions already. Thanks for the tips and your time. altavic - I checked out Vegasaur quite some time ago but it looks like I'm going to have to check it out again. Thanks for the tip. The sync feature in 11 coming up also looks like it will be of some use. I like to lock clips as I go, but it would be even easier if you could force all the clips to sync with an audio track.

Editing workflow questions
It's such a basic editing function that it is tough to find video examples, but here is one: You will notice at 2:17 he has 4 clips, one is a bit longer. He selects all of them then trims them all down to the same size. Next he applies a fade to all of them. I think it would make it much easier in sony vegas to remove 19 tracks above the one you want to use if you could split, select and crop using this method. (It works like this for groups, but not multi selections)

Editing workflow questions
I dont think a script will do it. Basicly if you have 3 events on 3 different tracks you can select all 3 with Ctrl-Click. Then trim / fade one and they all trim at the same time to the same time. If you group them in Vegas it works, but it would be real nice if you didnt have to go through lots of keystrokes. For example, in Cakewalk Sonar: Slip-editing multiple clips You can slip-edit multiple clips at the same time. To slip-edit multiple clips at once 1. Make sure all clips are not loop-enabled. 2. Select the clips you want to slip-edit. 3. Move your cursor over the beginning or end range of the selected clips until the blue clip handle appears. 4. Drag the boundary to the desired location and release.

I did this a while back trying to prepare for some vids: I used the camera gain control to avoid its wonky compression. I then used compression and transient shaping to get a good bang followed by the natural echo. (** trying to avoid the cap pistol sound most common in gun vids)

DNxHD - FREE 10bit 4:2:2 codec vs. Cineform???
robwood - "omg that's great, thx for posting that..." NP We should put this in its own thread so everyone see it, maybe do a remider when this thread dies. If you search for DNxHD you get a link to the older 2.1 drivers, I'm sure someone is still downloading them thinking they are the latest.

Speed is the main problem I have with it, and its worse with Win 7 64 bit. Using the same hardware playback in Win 7 is waayyy too slow compaired to Win XP. My hardware may be a bit old, but I think they need to do some work for 64bit OS performance.

Win 7 64bit playback issues
It is an issue with the .mov files I created using AVID DNxHD. Any project that includes them peg the CPU. Other projects that have .mp4, .m2t, .mpg all hit the CPU at 40 to 50% I have tried both Avid Codecs LE 2.1, and 2.3.2 both with poor playback results.

Win 7 64bit playback issues
The bit rates are both set at 44.1. This is more of an issue with the video sucking up too much CPU. After more tweeks it seems like the .mov files that I created for intermedeate editing are the issue. I created them with DNxHD. I installed the latest because there is a fix for the dialog box. I downloaded Avid QuickTime Codecs LE 2.3.2. The installer said the codecs were for 32 or 64 bit, but I think Sony vegas is still loading the layer that allows it to use 32 bit codecs. (If I use the 32 bit version of sony I dont see this in memory, but wit the 64 bit I do) Both the 64 and 32 bit versions playback these .mov files too slow in Win 7.

I switched to the ASIO drivers, still same issue. Im afraid this CPU is just getting too old for Win 7. Its an Athalon Dual core, 6000+ 3 GHz

I had filled them out, but neglected to check "Display system information on my forum profile page" I'm using 2x Delta 1010s. I'll check the ASIO, I'm using the ASIO for Sonar, but I didnt check what drivers Vegas uses.

OT Logging a harddrive
For windows, start run, cmd to get to the command prompt. To do the D: drive as an example: at the C:\> prompt type "dir D:\ /s >Yourfile.txt" {hit enter} This will write the dir to the file name Yourfile.txt. Specify the name/location you want here.

'Nother "How Can I do this in Vegas" Questio
That looks like some of the stuff Photodex Pro Show does. My wife uses it a lot for slide shows and vid compilations. If it doesnt do it, there are similar effects but better in the producer ver.
