VEGAS Pro 20 Build 403 General Thread
Can someone in Vegas really tell us what's going on here. Maybe it's me but the Smart Mask even with this mornings new install still only gives me this... (pictured below) top of head and hand cut off which is useless. Please prove me wrong with a Youtube tutorial about how it works. Hopefully I'm missing something but this doesn't look anything like what was pictured on the Vegas Website with the 4 dancers rotoscoped with multiple pinned points.With a 1700mb update, has Vegas totally rewritten the program for some reason with some great surprises in store for the future because with that huge a file there has to be more than the unusable Smart Mask and the ability to change fonts across the timeline.How is it I'm the only one questioning this?

I understand but I was basing my expectations on their website video. Here's a screen shot. Some different than the smart mask. I'm pretty sure I must be missing something with this 1000 and 700mb update other than the smart mask and the ability to change my fonts across the timeline.

I checked out pages 36-37 and that did give me a clue. However, when I tried to mask objects (and I tried quite a few from different clips) I always got something like this which is useless as there's no way I can see to refine the mask. I'm sure I'm way behind the curve on this stuff but unless it's made more friendly I'm not sure what the 1000mg upload is all about. And I don't mean to be mean or disrespectful here.I can put this same clip in Runway and it will mask her almost perfectly and it also allows me to add or remove and paint in small parts it might have missed.

Can't seem to locate much either in the News section of the forum or in the Vegas Hub that helps me understand the rotoscoping which I'm thinking is called Smart Mask. Played with the Smart Mask and I can't see where it does anything except put a box around a figure. Hopefully someone will come out with a tutorial that shows this more clearly. I did see on the Vegas website ad where they have 4 dancers which seem to be rotoscoped really well. I'm hoping this is part of this new upload. Sorry to be so dumb on this stuff.

What the heck is going on with this. It's been uploading all day. First a 700mg file and then a 1000mg file. Then it wants to keep repeating and repeating and uploading the same size files again. How can I end and install this darn thing? I don't even know where it places these files. Might I have a number of these 1000mg files sitting on my system?

Runway AI - masking, etc
Runway does have a feature that is easy to miss. After selecting an object you can use a paint brush to add or remove an area however small. The paint brush can be adjusted as to size so even a very tiny area can be included. I know it's not After Effects but then again it's not nearly as complicated or expensive. It's also pretty good at recognizing any object as opposed to CapCut which only recognizes people.

So glad you posted this. I don't have tictoc on any device but I do have the capcut editor which I haven't played with for some time. Didn't know it did rotoscoping. Sure wish Vegas would implement it. One thing Runway does which capcut does not do is that in Runway I can "exclude" a portion if the rotoscope is picking up something it shouldn't. After Effects has a great rotoscope which has many more features for tweeking but Runway and Capcut seem to do all I would ever need.

I just used the green screen feature to rotoscope me sitting in the chair which isolated me sitting there. That isolated me and left nothing else on the clip. Then I used another clip with me walking behind that "empty" chair. I took those two clips and put the rotoscope one on the top track and the other one with me standing which had all the background etc. on it on the bottom track. Here's a short video on it I made for you. Took me under 2 minutes to create the video. I think the trial free version only lets you "green screen" a few times before it asks to upgrade for $12 a month.

Here's an example of a video I made of me standing behind myself which truly took me no more than 4 minutes to make and this included doing the tracking of my hand. I know Boris would be much more sophisticated but it also has a steep learning curve at least for me it does. Runway costs $12 a month and Mocha is $75 a month and silhouette is $150 a month. Runway also has an Inpaint feature that works pretty darn good. This AI version of rotoscoping and tracking is honestly done with a few clicks of the mouse.

Smart Mask (AI assisted automatic masking) Introduction
I've watched the posts and tutorials here on "smart mask" but they all really seem to be about other masking procedures and not the smart mask. When I use it I see a rectangular outlines around objects and I can then create a very rough mask on that object. Where do you go from here? I'm hoping someone will post a short tutorial strictly about how to use the "smart mask". Thanks

Yes!! That works, the "open copy in audio editor". However, I did discover that an audio file will not open in RX9 if the clip has been shortened or split. Work-a-round: set RX9 as the "Preferred Audio Editor" in "Options> Preferences> Audio" .. assuming VP-20 is like previous builds. I've tried several types of files and none of them work when trying to access through V20 and all of them work when opening them directly in RX9 so I'm pretty sure any mediainfo wouldn't be of any help.

RX9 works fine if I just render and drop the wav file into it and it's a great program. Its saved me quite a few times from annoying background sounds, etc.

It's only an issue with that one program as it's the only one I have set up that way in Vegas.As you suggested, I have been doing just that, rendering it out and then bringing it into RX9 but since the feature is suppose to be available in Vegas I thought I'd like to have it set up that way. Not a big issue but would be a convenience.

Where are you finding this update? Thanks On my Magix Account, but it is also able to download it through this link : https://www.vegascreativesoftware.info/us/forum/vegas-pro-20-build-326--139239/It is not a part of the Vegas installation itself but by installing you are able to use some new features in the program. Thanks. I downloaded the update and now it appears to recognize objects with a vague mask. In addition to just recognizing objects, is there a way to apply that mask so as for instance to adjust the color etc on the mask? Not sure how to use it.

No QSV with i9-10900X I think, which is too bad as it has stability benefits over NVDEC in Vegas. You can try setting hardware decode to off if your CPU can handle decoding without the GPU. My life has been pure bliss. Hi John, I really don't know what to report that I haven't already. V20 simply crashes quite a few times every hour I use it.
