no Vegas Pro 14 :(
[i]So, what does everyone plan on doing here for editing in the future?[i] I have been a long time Vegas user. Discovered it in version 2, purchased V3 up to V13 and only skipped one version, I believe it was 6. While V11 was a nightmare, V13 has been my greatest and most stable version ever. I never liked Premiere or FCP, while Avid was out of reach and needed specific hardware. I also never liked having my audio events separated from my video events, where video tracks would be layered upwards and audio tracks downwards: V1-V2-V3 / A1-A2-A3 paradigm. Even tried Resolve 10, 11 and 12. I just wish they would drop that editing paradigm (but their color grading application is powerful and hard to beat). So the Vegas editing paradigm suited me and has served me well for all those years. It was also the most cost effective NLE in regards to hardware. Vegas saved me a lot of money and I could literally beat it. Several years ago, Apple demoed FCPX, and from that day, I was sold to it. But FCPX was not quite ready for primetime. It was lacking many features and Vegas remained my number 1 NLE. But then FCPX matured and what made me move to it for my new clients (my main client remaining on Vegas for now) was the ability to filter “used” and “unused” media. That and features like adding keywords and filter them, the media browser, the magnetic timeline, the timeline index, roles and skimming where just great features to have, making the editing process even more efficient and rediscovering the joy of editing all over again. All that time I had been a Windows user and FCPX made me discover the mac OS which I now embrace. Seeing Sony developing software for both platforms makes plenty sense to me. While I was hoping newer versions of Vegas would adopt some of those features, I now believe the Catalyst suite will inherit some as it evolves. And not being a fan of the subscription model, I discovered great affordable apps and plugins on the mac side, replacing photoshop, AE to some extent and so on. So an entire new world to discover. GenArts Sapphire Edge for SVP - No more . . . .
This is really sad, I was using some of their effects on a regular basis. Will have to gradually substitute these as they might not work in future versions. Seems Vegas 13 was not supported either but still working fine... That SE version 1. Then again there is RedGiant Universe, which now supports Vegas. Will be testing soon and see what they have to offer. Rob

Microsoft Patch Update
Thanks so much Steve, I was scratching my head this morning and wasted several hours as I do a backup on my server once a month and for some strange reason, all computers appeared offline, so it was impossible to do a backup. After checking your thread, I noticed that all my computers including my WHS2011 had KB2982791 installed. Uninstalled on all and now everything is back to normal. Rob

Sony's A7s could be the new low-light champion
Andy, have you tried using the sensor crop mode? Is the quality of the video as good as in full crop sensor mode and any issues with moire or aliasing in crop mode? Rob

New Feature Request - Still frame length
Chap, you should trial Vegasaur! Do the following: Select multiple events on the timeline and then go to: Vegasaur Editing Quick Properties Events Length: dial in your event timing Apply Then: Vegasaur 1 Click Commands Close Gaps (either selected events or tracks) Today I had over a 100 stills that I had to time to 4 frames each and again Vegasaur came to the rescue. New Blue Titler Activation?
Edward, you did mention in this thread that NBTP3 will also work in any other supported NLEs you have installed. Is this a cross platform license and will also run on a Mac with the same serial number? Thanks, Rob

Problem w/ VP and HitFilm 2 Ultimate intergration
I do have Witness Protection in Hitfilm Express so I added it to an event as a point layer on my Tracking Text timeline and the pixelation on the Vegas timeline doesn't follow the tracking path while it does work fine inside Hitfilm. The text layer still does track properly on the Vegas timeline. Rob

Problem w/ VP and HitFilm 2 Ultimate intergration
I was concerned about your findings and I have not seen this problem with Hitfilm Express in Vegas 12 (build 770). I basically had an event on the Vegas timeline which I opened in Hitfilm. Did a tracking and connected a text layer to it. Repeated the same action onto a different event and both are tracking the text as it should. I am not offering much of a solution here but I just thought I would share my findings and hopefully it can help in resolving this matter. I am still debating if I should get Ultimate 2, only I don't like how it handles levels with some cameras making the Vegas integration somewhat not as useful as I would liked it. Rob

Hit Film plugins 50% off at toolfarm until 7th May
A while ago, along with another editor who owns Hitfilm Ultmate 2, we managed to compare the chromakey filters in my BCC8 (Vegas) and FCPX along with his Hitfilm Ultimate 2 chromakeyer. The keying inside Hitfilm was nearly perfect, with great hair separation, no jagged edges, while the keyers inside BCC8 and FCPX where at par, hair separation was not perfect and we did get some jagged edges. I was really amazed by the quality of the Hitfilm keyer. Just one thing I wish was improved is the Hitfilm-Vegas integration where some DSLR footage will not display levels and saturation correctly on the Vegas timeline and it seems you are better off converting your files to a proper codec. I believe the upgrade pricing on the Vegas Suite is one of Sony's best offer, a truly great package. While V12 was so stable for me, most likely my most stable version of Vegas, I still need to test drive V13 and see how it behaves. Rob

Odd request..Final Cut
I don't like Vegas Device Explorer because it renames your files and I like to keep the original naming structure. It doesn't bother me either if my files aren't joined, I just group them if required. But then again FCPX will rename my files on import! Mind you that you can have the original naming structure show up in the Browser, but the naming is changed in the events folder where the files lies. Only I have been using this workflow before FCPX was out and the original .mp4 from my EX1 would play in Premiere and AE both on PC and Mac, if required. I believe it is a QuickTime limitation that prevents playing the original .mp4 file from the EX1. Anyhow I do keep the original BPAV so at any moment I can rebuild the entire folder structure, while every SD card I own is numbered to the matching BPAV folder. So if I do get corrupt footage, I can easily spot the faulty card. Rob

Odd request..Final Cut
@Johnny That makes sense. I shoot with an EX1 and while I keep the file structure from every card I record on, I always extract all .mp4 from the BPAV folder into an event folder and drop these onto the Vegas timeline. But I was never able to import my EX1 .mp4 files into FCPX and I didn't want to rebuild every folder by individually sliding each shot inside each folder. After much experimentation, I did find a way to rebuild the BPAV folder in order to import my files into FCPX. Therefore, I would format an SD card in my EX1 camera and then use the BPAV folder as a dummy folder. Afterwards, I would copy the dummy BPAV folder on an external drive and copied a 1000 shots at a time inside the CLPR folder inside the BPAV folder on my PC. Then I would start FCPX on my mac and hookup the external drive and FCPX would rebuild the entire folder structure where each event has it's own folder and code name. This workflow was quick and easy. So the XAVC import might be similar to the XDCAM import process and I believe, but not sure, that your files needed to be on an external drive. Rob

I purchased the Border plugin and indeed the activation system is just overkilled. That alone has stopped me from buying any plugins from them. Their plugins are also slightly overpriced. Rob

Odd request..Final Cut
I rendered a file to XAVC HD Intra.mxf from Vegas 12 but I wasn't able to import it into FCPX 10.1.1 even if I installed XAVC/XDCAM Plug-in for Apple (PDZK-LT2) I have never used that format before and I am puzzled as to why I cannot import it in FCPX. Vegas Pro or Pro Ultimate?
Steve, you do get the full version of Hitfilm Ultimate 2 that you can use as standalone. So I was told by Sony on their live chat. I have BCC8 but if I do upgrade to V13, I will most likely get Hitfilm and not upgrade to BCC9 since I had issues with the BCC8 plugin. The chrmakeyer inside Hitfilm is just outstanding and better than BCC8 keyer. Rob

Wasn't aware about the color shift in the render.... I did install the Hitfilm trial but I am unable to have my event show up on the Vegas preview, I get a warning that Hitfilm needs to be activated. So can't get a true test drive. Rob

Dropdown Toolbar
Seems to be no way to cycle with a keystroke the Shuffle, Slip, Slide, Time Stretch and Split Tools in the Quick Menu on the bottom toolbar. These tools should of been sitting individually across the toolbar for immediate access. I have tried to assign some keyboard shortcut with the customize keyboard option where it shows commands containing these tools and while you can assign a keyboard shortcut, it will not work once in the timeline. And now you have a top and bottom toolbar, these could of been merged into a single toolbar right above the timeline or at least make it movable and dockable. I don't see any improvement here, much of this is counterintuitive. Rob

Johnny, since you own a mac, do you know if the Hitfilm Ultimate 2 license will allow you to run it as a standalone on the mac even if it was purchased with the Vegas 13 Suite? The Suite seems like a great deal, I just don't know if I will have the time to test drive it all prior to purchase. Rob

Vegas Pro 13 with Hitfilm
Do you still need to apply a Studio RGB to Computer RGB filter for any events on which you add the Hitfilm FX in order to match all other events on the Vegas timeline which don't use the Hitfilm FX? Rob
