Plans for BWF export
None spoken of in the forums. Import capability is really enough probably for vegas use. omf import export would really be the format you're asking for. but now that vegas has multiple track export capability. neither really matters anyway. You can always do straight timeline exports and import from 00:00:00 anyway. Alternately, you can always export to mxf or aaf format anyway and not be concerned. or to edl legacy and import to most other platforms

Not sure what to say to you about it bliss, it either fits your needs or doesn't (people have some similar gripes with acids lack of video features they think should be there - personally I'd rather see them get onto fully implementing rewire in acid on a par with its support in protools and end the farce of digi being the only true DAW on the market - if anyone is thinking I'm of a mind their products are perfect) And no, I don't work for madison media.

Bam, thanks for taking a minute to punctuate just the point I was making about the issue. Off the record, I don't disagree with alot of the feature requests. Some make a lot of sense - in their DAW line, but not so much anymore for their NLE line. Sure they could probably benefit from some of it but there's always a catch Is there room in both, I can't say - Peter could probably say a lot more to whether it would introduce the kind of feature creep that has broken a lot of other products - avid, pinnacle etc. personally, I think the new feature slowdown is a good sign. It means they've got - one: a solid product they're reinforcing for working use - as they're designed for. Two: It's sets an established framework for other products to come from. Cinescore is a good example of that. Not so much acut down version of Vegas as much as a 1.0 of the same sort of innovative idea as acid was and vegas was at the time working off an established base platform and capability that draws from both apps and makes a completely new application to itself Reaper is another good example of what's happening there, it's got a dedicated feature set, its being refined almost daily if the barrage of updates tells us anything and it's trying it's level best and failing in a lot of cases to make everyone happy. In the end, will those broken features and ideas stay - doubtful. But they'll make a try of it. Vegas was a multitrack audio compositional and editing tool in the beginning - that is true Bam. But the same argument can be made about Acid as a loop compositor. Neither product has stayed static - both have gained considerable advances over time and evolved far beyond what they started as. The point of the post wasn't to lecture. But to throw a different curve on the continuing cry of the audio users who feel shorted and ignored. There is a DAW available from sony. There is an NLE available from sony. For the people complaining about DAW issues, they're in the wrong forum in my view (and as several Sony forum mods have pointed out the same for Vegas being targeted as their Video NLE) and should be making these primary feature req for ACID 7. Not trying to make Vegas AND Acid one and the same. I think whether it disappoints you and I is beside the issue - because Sony has already made themselves very clear on the issue of which goes where in their Video NLE vs Audio DAW development resources and have for two consecutive release versions so far. Is it right or wrong, I really can't tell you, You can't tell me either. Would I, like you want to see an all in one app? Oh yes, when it's ready. Until then. Neither you nor I can speed up that process. Only request the features we want and need and make them for the app most likely to benefit from them. People can do whatever they want, including be ignorant in ignoring the obvious, arrogant and take the truth of it or just bitch because there's just something else to be disappointed with. It's everyone choice what they do and bless them for it. But if I can hear your complaints - you can hear an opposing view, right?

waves crash in vv7
as far as I can tell - it looks like a calback crash - crash looks to be caused by multiple instances of the plugin interacting with the waveshells and the dx support routines ( waves really did shoot themselves in the foot by even bothering with vst support as they have already started backpeddling on the issue and hopefully will fix with a forthcoming version of tune that doesn't jimmy rig both rewire and some undocumented vst hook to just work) remove references to the waveshells and the problem should stop there (as far as I know - the dx versions instantiate first and eliminate the need for the waveshells in the sony products anyway) then remove both vstcache and dxcache entries from the registry and that should be it

Stop using Nero for anything is my suggestion. It's never adhered to anything but it's own shaky formats and is interoperable with nothing outside of itself in every experience I've had or heard about from others.

Yes, but it's not a point and click proposition and cannot be taken too far..any time compression expansion will cause artifacts..but picthing is something you might want to consider doing in sound forge for best quality

Can Vegas 6 handle PDC?
Peter, Vegas exhibits both gap and lag when acoustic mirror is inserted or removed during playback (tracks jumble and go out of sync by the length of the IR, also seems to occur with the IR-1 and Q-Clone (though Q-Clone exhibits it less) Probably other high latency plugins might do similar but I can't say for sure - I keep a very tight ship as far as dsp goes. Not worth it to experiment during business hours. A stop and start resets them back to compensated. That might be what he's referring to - I have yet to see anything but convolution plugins create that sort of side effect otherwise though. Render output is unaffected in any case. I don't consider it a bug as much as that it probably was never designed to expand and contract buffers like that in a playback sense. Otherwise, I've never seen it fail in playback or render with any sort of standardised plug-in

Plugin issues - The story so far
Unofficially, Dave Hill and I discussed this issue in the earlier year concerning a side issue in vegas 5 that was outstanding (and supposed to be addressed in 6 but obviously was not) I'm sorry, but I will not go into the specifics of what the issue was, per my agreement with Hill about it The workaround proposed was aif or pca renders (which apparently also re enable the bussing assignments backward compatible with vegas 4 that so many were so disappointed with (though I cannot say I ever tested it for myself) However the render to aif/pca does apparently remain stable - despite the other exports remaining corrupt in some form. I know it's not much in the way of a fix - but it is an alternate if you have to tolerate till either a fix or surrender appears.

I see no problem at all with any of it - As soon as they are paying me to use/promote/evangelise their products - They have a say in what I will and will not say in any form - anywhere. As soon as they are not shipping broken products with vague timelines of corrections, I'll assume whatever I have to say in the way of criticism - until the time comes that the world spins backwards and the laws of physics suspend, that is the way it works.They can and do answer to their consumer and professional markets. Though I am still holding out a fading hope they can fix SF8,Acid and Vegas in the end. End of story. Good grief, I am looking forward to the partners meeting this year

Bug: Waves VST's (WaveShell) not detected
You're not missing anything, the vst shells are seriously deficient (latency and code callbacks to the api hooks - but then again, most vsts are fairly shoddy anyway)

By all means Dave, and do not let the door hit you as you go. The board is for consumer feedback and feedback turns a little shrill when you abuse equipment (and longtime users) Stick around or not. Makes no difference if you are not concerned with that particular part of the apps functionality. We are. And we will surely see you back as soon as something important to you is either broken or hopelessly lost in "feature shuffle" Take good care

Good deal Red, like I said, I was tossing conjecture and theory out there - hoping we could get a clear/concise answer to it and put it to bed and start the next question - if not rewire: then what are our options? It's not a cure all and not instant gratis but it's a start and I think it's fallen apart because the perception is that Peter lied to us with the whole "it never stands still" bit. I'm hoping Peter will jump in here and give us the insight to put the idea behind us and maybe even field some backrow ideas to alternates.

Just a thought but you might want to drop a line to the real Sony and let them know how you might think about all this. You might even be shocked to find they might possibly answer you.

You mean a couple of months? That's the official word on a fix for forge 8. which I'd expect would be in line before a fix for vegas.

13 - At least 3 Broken video plugins on the video side (no check on the audio end yet - but I'm sure at least a few are there as well if luck holds as it has) sharpen - blurs film effect - static image overlay only zoom - erratic behavior at best broadcast colors - questionable output - unconfirmed

Bam, it looks to be the right assessment - vegas is apparently not as handicapped as the current forge 8 release (broken plugins ?!?(horrendous fubar since they kind of have to work until we have a second option to use - good grief!/ripple/bussing/unaddressed issues from previous versions/but I suspect even more as it goes into field beta testing.... etc) we've put a freeze on upgrades until someone stops sniffing glue while they code these apps and ignores basic QC procedure. Have to wonder if they'll fix it quicker than a couple of months.(!@!?!) I still think Sonic was either high or something to actually say that out loud in light they got our cash and flipped us off with forge 8 - and that is exactly what it felt and looked like. A couple of months? I recall a time when Sonic Foundry could and would make good on their products. Fixes for openly broken things would be a matter of maybe a week or so. Not some vaguely non descript nonsense of a couple of months (they could have taken a couple of months and done some QC testing on it rather than inflict it on the increasingly wary). Spare me the logistics. I doesn't wash, the technology makes it even more likely an immediate solution could be produced, not less likely. They were doing it in 2001, the machines and code bases have only gotten faster and more streamlined since then. if I understood PCH on the unified codebase correctly. Interesting public relations tact to take for a company that went head first just recently. I hope Sony Corporate is more forgiving than I am but I'm kind of doubting it. They're a business, and like being in business. On the other side, I do want to say Dave Hill in particular was extremely helpful in shedding some light on the bus issue in 5. So at least one person I have some faith in not to be asleep at the wheel. Even if almost none of the bus issue was addressed in the current release from what can be seen (they've removed the dialogue altogether at this point)
