Mercalli V4 plugin not working on 4k video?
Works fine for me. In my recent review of Mercalli V4, the majority of my source footage was 4K from a variety of cameras.

Drone footage is pixelated on Vegas 10.
Which version of Quicktime do you have installed? Vegas uses the quicktime engine to decode these files, which may explain why they look great in Media Player and pixelates in the Vegas window.

The DJI Osmo X5
Hi Peter, nice to drop in from time to time. Yes, the problem is just with the X5. I also have a FeiyuTech (a company I contract/consult to sells them) it's a great little tool! If anyone wants one, lemme know. I can help out.

Yes, the R is for RAW. It's a fair little camera. I have the standard X5, and fly it on an Inspire Pro UAV/drone. doesn't work well on the Osmo with any decent lens, however. very cool idea, but not very well executed. I wish it were easier to post pix here, you could see how it will burn out the Osmo.

Beautifying people in Vegas
Black nylon has a very smooth styling. It can also b place in front of the lens to a different a/effect. In the process I mentioned above, applying slight vertical to the Parent works nicely too.

Copy an original track Put blur and glow on the top. Put the top track into Overlay or Screen mode (Sometimes Mult mode works, depends on source. You can also use cookie cutter or a mask to cut/soften areas. Toss em' both under a master Parent, control everything at once.

I've always been around, just a lot less to say due to the dramatic growth of Vegas, and the volume of contributing people in this forum. Business has been good as well, and takes me away from the internet a fair amount. Still using Vegas every day, always enjoy seeing the looks on directors faces when I use it to load/ingest 4K and spit out to a monitor from an ingest/monitor station (laptop). Thanks for the kind words, gang. FWIW, health is great, I'm flying most every moment i'm not cutting or shooting something.

set stabilization to nil. FWIW, using a polarizing gel in your POV camera will dramatically reduce rolling shutter.

Something cool from NAB
unfortunately, a lot of the time the 'bigger' projects cannot be used as demo media. JR can attest to the Budweiser piece I showed, as well as some 4K content seen at the Vegas party. It's not easy getting permission to show commercial footage. Sony was also demonstrating XAVC/S in the Vegas demos (oddly enough, there was no Vegas in the Broadcast demos of F5/55 in the Broadcast section of the Sony booths), and there was some other odd resolutions, framerate, codec footage being shown on the mainstage. This particular video interview, Whitney may not have chosen that footage, but it was being shown on that same computer system. Justin was showing how he uses Vegas for his television show, and Ric Viers was constantly showing how he uses Vegas for "The Living Dead" etc.

Is there ANY way to get QuickTime HD out of Vegas?
I've just rendered to a QT packaged MP4 in V12/394, using QT7, no Pro. Rendered to 6.5Mbps, Timeline quite short, only 4 mins. Have you tried various bitrates? If the person the mac is going to be editing, you can also render to the XDCam formats, they'll be able to open and edit with virtually no loss (They'll need to install the free XDCAM plug, www.sony.com/xdcam HTH

i'm on exactly the other side of the 3D argument. Folks who were around 3 years ago when we first started hearing about 3D again might recall that it was referred to as another fad, and would die soon. Now I'm not aligned with myself from 3 years ago. 3D is here to stay. It's a factor in all future video formats, especially 4K. Sure, I'd rather have AVCHD smart rendering (AVC is highly unlikely to have it) over 3D, yet at the same time recognize the marketing resources that Sony must observe. I've also yet to see AVCHD come out of the camera looking great. Ever. Color correction and attention to post-imaging is more critical than ever with the highly compressed formats. I guess I don't mind the absence of smart rendering right now, because I can't think of any AVCHD-present project that hasn't required at the least, a gamma shift and color correction.

David McKnight produced the book, and Ray/Muttley Schlogel provided some really sweet content that makes the book much easier to follow. Randy Stewart was a huge help in getting through the tutorials (i can write them the question is if they're readable), and John Rofrano provided all of the Media Manager sections and parts of the Plugin sections. David Hadden also has some great contributions to the book. In other words, a lot of people went into this book, where the previous books were pretty much a solo effort. If you can zoom in deeply enough on the worksheets and topical guide, you can see what the new book includes. It is very tutorial-driven.

AVCHD does not have variations. AVC does. AVCHD is the spec created by Panasonic and Sony as a joint effort and is the spec is tightly adhered to. AVC may be in any number of bitrates, wrappers, frame sequences, and can wreak havoc (or not) depending on several variables.

ot: ssd updates?
I've had nothing but trouble with the Kingston SSD; Great luck with Crucial in my personal machine, and the turnkey's we're shipping all have Intels. For boot and access, it's speedy. I don't ever render to an SSD, mostly based on the hassles and habits picked up from the Kingston.

No, it doesn't do smart rendering on trimmed files. I'm not sure how it could, given how it works. I store the AVCHD as renamed files (it's a bit** finding files when they're all 00XX.mts) and store them as raw files, with veg via the Save As function. I add 20 seconds of head/tail. In the sport centers we manage video for (over 100), sometimes they're generating several thousand files a day, so using PA2.0 for filemanagement has become second nature.

IIRC, Feb 2 was when the Vegas Video Beta forum was opened for the members of the Vegas Beta team back in the day. I could be wrong...I was on a long-term visit to Madison at the time, as the video part of the Vegas family was being created. The SOFO forum itself has been around since around 2000, I think.
