Effects and mixing
No sleeping, just using a different app. Bummer this can't work this way. It's been a while since I used Vegas. i did the upgrade to 7 mostly so I could have DVD Architect. I was playing with a mix and liked the sound. Once I got into "the meat" of mixing, these things came up (see my other posts). Guess I stick with Logic for my mixing (maybe Samplitude later). @#$@#$ Stuttering Audio Render!!!
Getting the same error. Wether a render or a CD burn. I will have to record my tracks to a new master track in real time (about an extra 1 1/2 worth of work). Always something with this Vegas...........

UAD question
My card combo (RME Digi96) works until I try using realtime monitoring of effects while recording. Whether on an effects buss or track insert. Maybe it is my card. However, Tracktion gives me no issues at all. I can insert effects in realtime (while playing), record with effects monitored and have no errors or the clicks/pops. I can't work the same in Vegas. UAD question
I would be careful. I can't use Vegas 5 with my UAD-1s. There are issues with buffers that rear their ugly heads on a regular basis (clicks, pops, errors, plugins being diabled because of stupid buffer issues etc.). I had to resort to using Tracktion, which gives me ZERO issues whether I record through a UAD-1 plugin (like Nigel) or mix and match plugins during mix down. Sony are trying to get the "tricks" down for Vegas 5 (as one response to one of my UAD-1 posts) they didfor ACID 5. My two cents. Rich

Anyone else having problems with UAD-1 & Recording?
I have heard some awesome things about Nuendo. I have Cubase SX2 (which I am not crazy about), I think I there is an upgrade path to Nuendo. I am not rushing though. I am makin' music with Tracktion, so I'm a happy guy. Regards, Rich

Anyone else having problems with UAD-1 & Recording?
Well, I made a very interesting discovery. It seems the only program I get zero issues with when recording (and playback in general) and the UAD-1, drumroll please............ Tracktion. I bought this program a while back and have never really used it. Man, it is very very cool!! I have zero, I say again ZERO issues with Tracktion and recording audio. No delay / latency issues, no snaps, crackles or pops. I couldn't get Vegas, SawStudio, Logic or ACID to work as smoothly. I guess I will keep Vegas for my "light" CD work :) I wonder how Julian (the creator) did such an awesome job? Maybe because Mackie is now continuing develoment and marketing Tracktion, and they had the UAD-1 at one point, Mackie knows all the "tricks" to get Tracktion to work so well with the UAD-1? Maybe its my configuration? May it's just luck? Regards, Rich

Do I Need Vegas 5 or Sonar 3 for audio only
For "audio only" Vegas is hard to beat. It has excellent editng functions. You can master and burn CD's as well. It has been very stable, with a high track count for me (48 tracks no sweat). As a composing tool, Logic or Cubase would be the better solution as each has Rewire, Virtual Instruments and Excellent Midi. Regards, Rich

Vegas owners poll
I have both Acid 4.0 and Vegas 5.0. Acid is used for composing. Beat matching, song structure, a little midi (very little). Vegas is my main editor. It is also the 1st place I go to when putting CDs together. I usually record and mix in Logic (on a Mac with my PC sync'd). For small, audio only projects, I will mix in Vegas. Regards, Rich

Live Input Monitoring in Vegas 5.0?
I just tried the demo. Seems the only way to live input monitor is through a track. Which means the monitored input will be recorded with other tracks. To bad you can't assign an input directly to a buss. Rich

Track Names?
Thanks Geoff! Man that really blows!! Guess I find a different app, probably Samplitude. I can't believe something as simple as CD-Text is not supported. This really pisses me off.!!! Why did I waste my money for a "Pro" app that can't do this simple function? Why is this called CD Architect, when you can't provide the CD Information? I am blown away...... Bad enough you can pretty much do the same thing in Vegas (which I also spent money on). Guess I can't really justify anymore upgrades. Thanks again for the info Geoff, Regards, Rich

24/96 files to CD (Redbook) is converting necessary?
Thanks Geoff. I think I will try this a few different ways; Render / convert to 16bit/44khz, record the files (mix live) to my Mac 16bit / 44khz, then bring a CD back over to my PC for the mastering and finally let CD Architect do in real time (my PC should have zero difficulty). I'll post the sonic results. Better do some reading in the manual as well :) Regards, Rich

Video card recommendations
I am using a Matrox G550 DVI card. I run to 19" Samsung Syncmaster LCD. The Matrox card has a digital cable option to run to two monitors. Total cost, about $200. I bought direct from Matrox. Very nice card. I upgraded from a G450 (dual analog ports) which is in my other machine. The only reason I upgraded was to have dual DVI output. Regards, Rich ps. Thanks for the response. No go with another machine. I need to get my serial number from SoFo, I did a remove and re-install, and Vegas 4.0 is asking for the serial number again (which I accidently deleted from my email). What is really weird about this, is that Vegas did run, once. But it did shut down on its own for no reason at all. Vegas 4.0 won't run in demo mode either. Oh well, guess I wait. Rich

This is really weird. I can't get Vegas 4.0 to open at all. I uninstalled everything, re-installed, and still no Vegas 4.0. I can't believe once again, more bugs. Ugh.

Writing FX automation
{With the Sonic Foundry effects and the 3.5 Waves effects (not sure why this isn't working on Waves 4.0...) you can open an effect plugin window, make a change to the parameter you want, and it will add a point on the envelope and move it to the appropriate place} But can you do this in REAL TIME? As in while the song is playing. I can't seem to. If not, then it's a bummer. Rich

I agree. Staying with 44khz is alot easier in the long run. Since all the ACID loops I have are 44khz, and the fact that you need a really good program to do SRC from 48khz to 44khz, it is better to stay at 44khz. If you can go 24bit, then do that. There are alot of good dither options now. Regards, Rich

Is there a "Strip / Remove Silence" function in Vegas?
The strip silence function can be used for cleaning up a region, and if you want, then removing the silenced materials (a new wave is made).Or not (non-destructive) and you can use the wave in a different program. I've used this function in Logic and Saw Studio to clean up a mix. It really made the process quick and easy. With the state of Sonic Foundry, who knows if this will be implemented. I hope there is a Vegas 4.0, I really like working in Vegas (mostly editing). Regards, Rich
