still no Vegas Video 4 Book. WHEN?
I think your ideas are fine - but we in Europe are suffering from high transportation costs anyway. The nice book available on SoFos homepage for 29 $ - they take 77 (!) Euros in Germany and Austria. Overall a situation, that is not satisfying at all... :-( So, it would ge good news if the DSE book would come out at all!

Here in Europe Amazon has mailed us, that they will not be able to deliver the book - and that they have canceld our orders. Does that happen in the States too? Kr Wolfgang www.vegasvideo.de

Your thoughts on codecs...
Vegas applies the internal SoFo DV-codec, what is one of the best in the market - so from that side no reason to use another one. However, you can do so, but have to deactive the SoFo codec then. The mainconcept thing mentioned earlier is the encoder, but not the DV-codec.

Upper Field 1st or Lower Field 1st ?
There are tools like the bitrate viewer you can use to explore that. And tools like the easy changer to switch field order in mepg-streams. For vegas, the right field order for DV-avi should be bottom = lower field first always.

Reduced Luminance Range in mpegs from VV 4.0b
Thank you for the confirmation that 4.0c will bring a solution! That are great news, and I will forward that to our German/Austrian/Switzerland group testing different encoders at the moment, in comination with the new frame server. Great!!

Vegas 4.0 vs Vegas 4.b
The only drawback that we have detected up to now, is that the limance range is reduced when you make an output to mepg, applying the internal MC-Encoder. Nobody knows why that happens, it makes no sense at all, the SoFo Codec avoided that in the past successfully. :-(

Please help!! PluginPac Frameserver problem
The CCE is only so slow, when you have activated audio output in the encoder. Then it waits very long at the beginning, until it starts. Black piture in MC-Encoder 1.3: I had that only, when I tried to resize to 480x576 (PAL SVCD). When I tried to stay in the original size 720x576, it worked fine for me.

Reduced Luminance Range in mpegs from VV 4.0b
I did not any adjustments - the rendering was done with a small testclip without any changes only, simply to test the system. The original clip had the full range, too.
