Spot laid up ...
Having noticed the dedication Spot applies to all things Video, I'm quite sure he'll apply the same dedication to his PE excercises. We'll probably see him becoming a PE Instructor in the not too distant future. The gall of the man!! He just keeps on making us envious, by putting just another notch to his multi talented belt. Completely OT - Raptor in the Kitchen
Went to collect our daily supply of eggs from our Perth subrban garden one morning. Found a lovely mess to clean up. Foxy had taken a bite from every one of our eight chickens. It appeared that the intestines proved to be the tastiest morsel. Just one bite and then it was on to the next. None survived of course. Haven't kept a chicken since. Alf.

OT:A new step forward
Dave hit the nail right on the head. American Presidents are mere "Puppets" for those agencies that wield the real power. The main ones being, 1: The CIA, who have made more mistakes than you can poke the proverbial stick at. 2: All those other Security agencies who seem to be able to see a shadow lurking where nobody else can. Unfortunately for the rest of the world, America assumed the mantle of "Leaderof the Free World", with dire consequences for our very survival. Alf

Yet another dumb ass vegas pirate....
I'm not the pirating type and never have been. Mainly because I was up before the courts as a youngster, for an unrelated teenage indiscretion, many many years ago and the whole process frightened seven kinds of you know what out of me. I save up for the programs that I deem necessary, such as Vegas and Windows XP, and also take full advantage of the many excellent free programs that are out there. However, I have always been of the opinion that computing, per se, would have died a natural death soon after it's inception if it were not for piracy. My first program purchase was a silly little game called "Frogger", which I'm sure many of you oldies will remember. It cost me $70, as I recall. An absolute fortune for me at the time, and turned me off computing for a good few years. Piracy is much less prevalent, now, than it was in the early days, where piracy became a daily challenge for many very talented people. They opened up the flood gates of interest for millions of users world wide and spawned one of the greatest industries known to Man.

OT: Nostalgia
Sorry, can't help releasing some more of my memories of wartime Britain. Good job Blink decided to put this thread under the OT banner. Us young lads used to scour the streets, looking for pieces of shrapnel. These prized collections may have come from a bomb, an anti aircraft shell, or even a piece of a German Dornier. We used to trade the "best bits" at school, once normal schooling had begun, some twelve months or so after the "blitz" had ended. In the latter part of the war, me and my mates set up our own "early warning system", for the locals. It was designed to give advance warning of a "Doodlebug". This was the name given to Hitler's V1. The first of his two secret weapons that he thought would once more turn the tide of the war in his favour, after being defeated on every front he had opened. The only warning a Doodlebug would give, before exploding on the ground, was the engine stopping after running out of fuel. Our "early warning system" was a piece of railway line, suspended on a tripod. As soon as the dreaded drone of the Doodlebug stopped, we knew that it would land somewhere in the near vicinity, so we then commenced clanging the piece of railway line with the heaviest hammer that we could find from Dad's shed. It was very effective actually. It sent all the locals scurrying for the nearest shelter, with the full knowledge that we were pretty good at our job. It made us immensley proud. No such luck with Hitler's V2 though. These were the forerunners of today's space rockets, except that they had an explosive nose cone. There was no warning. Just an almighty explosion wherever they landed. In fact, one landed in the same street as our school and we were called to Assembly the very next day to say prayers for one of our teacher's who had been killed.

OT: Nostalgia
Not wanting to bore readers of this forum with my own wartime memories, of which there are many, I can't let this opportunity pass without mentioning Hope, Crosby and Lamour in their series of "Road", films. They were a wonderful escape from the horrors of air raid shelters and of surfacing, when the bombs finally stopped, only to find shattered homes and visions of the WVS ladies handing out hot tea to the lucky ones who had survived just one more night of terror. Hope, Crosby and Lamour enabled us to forget, if only for fleeting moments, of mans inhumanity to man.

OT: Nostalgia
Absolutely disgusted with my two daughters for going into raptures listening to the Rolling Stones and the Beatles. The "Sixties" changed life forever, even for us grown ups. The second World War had stolen our own youthful dalliances and it seemed that we resented the new young amongst us being able to, 'let it all hang out'. Only now, in the evening of our lives, do we admit that they didn't turn out so bad after all and that it was only our own jealousies that had us wishing, oh! that we could have lived the same joyful years as they have done. However, in retrospect, we did have a free fireworks display every night during the London blitz and a sing along with Bing Crosby, huddled together in our community air raid shelters. Our meagre food rations kept us trim, taught and terrific. When the Yanks came to town, it was a bonus for us kids. "Got any gum, chum", was the catch phrase that we used, to weedle out from our American visitors those tasty sticks of gum we had only seen in our weekly visit to "the pictures". Those were the days, my friends.

Thanks Bob. We will take all suggestions on board. Looking back, I think we may have become victims of our own success and perhaps start appealing to video newcomers. Most of our older members became very talented in their own right. Consequently, they climbed the ladder and left just a few of us dangling on the bottom rungs. Alf.

OT: Projecting the image
Thanks Jim, and yes, we have a projector, purchased very recently actually. However, for many years, we had previously used projectors belonging to club members who were quite happy to bring them along to meetings. We showed projects from members, and then disected them etc., as to how it could have been done better. I'm pretty sure the club was run along fairly good guidelines, but it seems that those who once made the club so popular and informative have gradually left us to take up other pursuits. We just need some new guidance. Alf

Better still............Go for a walk in the park.............Go for a swim. Sitting down at my editor for two hours per day is quite sufficient for me. I prefer to FEEL the beautiful world surrounding me, for the remainder of my waking hours.

PiratesBay closed down.
It seems a great pity to me, that constant complaints from people like us, quite often has the opposite effect to that which we are condemning, namely piracy. I too, had never heard of PiratesBay until I read Spot's post. If I wanted, I could go to that site right now, just out of curiosity. I won't........... simply because it has been demonstrated to be a piracy site. However, I've no doubt that, at some time or another, I will innocently mention the name and that will be just one other person who knows about it. He, or she, will then mention it to a mate and before we know where another software company has bit the dust, or diverted their resources to a better way of not to lose money. How about we just keep quiet about these sites instead of promoting them?

Alternatively, just go outside to your nearest field of trees, or watch your kids playing football. Now that, to me, is a sight for any sore eyes you'd get from watching a wall to wall crime scene, or any thing else for that matter.

Recording video from Google Earth
Slightly OT, but I downloaded a later dated version of Google Earth. It was BZXD.exe and my computer crashes on program start-up each time. I haven't bothered with my older version for some time, so I don't know whether it also would have caused a crash. Any ideas?

OT: Historical computers
Best I can do is to say that my present keyboard sits upon the filled in gap that I cut away on my desk, many years ago, to accept my Commodore 64 keyboard. Loved that machine. Pity they went broke. Couldn't stand playing games on it though. I thought that stuff was for Morons. However, many of these so called Morons later went on to become whizz kids of the industry. Now let me see. One of those games, (may have been called Froggo), where an animated frog jumped onto objects in the pond. The gamer had to manipulate it somehow so that it didn't fall nto the water. I always thought that I was too clever by half to play such mindless games, yet here I am, 25 years later, still scatching my head over computer technololgy and it's progammes.

OT: Had it with Epson printers!!!
Printer cartridges are the biggest con known to man. Why do you think the printers themselves are so cheap, compared to the effort and materials that goes into making them? Get your ink from one of the many ink houses and fill your own cartridges. Been doing it for years. Can't tell any difference from the original tanks, even after five years.. Also, get a Canon.

windows is closing
While we're on about bugs, here's my one. If I switch my camera on AFTER I have fired up my new dual core computer, it crashes. When it fires up again, it states that "a serious error has occurred". I have now learned to switch my camera ON, before firing up the computer.

Company boardrooms spend many hours, days even, to select a name for their product. Over endless cups of tea or coffee, they toil until a consensus is reached. Methinks someone spiked their drinks at this particular one. Stupid name. Lovely programme.
