Share Your Good Experiences With VEGAS Pro
My roots are in still photography but back in the 1990s I decided I wanted to shoot and distribute game videos of my son's soccer to the rest of his team. My first attempts at video editing were created by connecting two Hi-8 cassette decks (Sony EV-C100 & EV-S7000) and controlled the editing with Lanc connections between the two. I had a genlock card in my computer for titles. Horribly labor intensive and not very good quality. I saw an ad for a Canopus Firewire card that would allow me to perform non-linear editing AND it came bundled with Vegas Pro 4. What an improvement! When the kids went off to college, I retired my video career and went back to still photography (mostly wildlife). But now that DSLR & Mirrorless still cameras have incredible video capabilities, I'm starting to make (short) videos again. I'm loving the way the new cameras can record in 120fps 4K for SloMo - great for my passion of wildlife. And, of course, Vegas Pro 20 handles them flawlessly. Computer wont launch software even after reboot
The Task Manager solution works every time for me. It's a bit tricky because you need to attempt to start Vegas twice, then "end task" on the first instance of the background process "Vegas Pro". I made a workaround tutorial: ...Jerry

Not Video: Vegas Pro 20 will not open after working correctly.
It seems to be more prevalent with a number of programs in Windows 11 (not just VP) than it was back with Windows 10. Yes. That is my observation as well. ...Jerry

I have a similar (maybe the same) problem. Try opening Task Manager and see if there is one or more Background Processes named "Vegas Pro" running. "End Task" on both of them (sometimes ending just one works). Then try starting Vegas again. That won't fix it permanently but it's a workaround for me. I'd love to know what the permanent solution is. Good Luck!...JerryPS: Sometime only a reboot will work.

Moire after pan crop of still
This might be worth a try... You could open the still image in Photoshop. Use Filters->Camera Raw->Masking and use the brush tool to brush on Moire Reduction. Good Luck!...Jerry

Glitchy GUI. Buttons disappear.

@Reyfox Bald Eagles seem to prefer dead or stunned fish (easier to grab out of the water). That's why eagles congregate at hydroelectric dams. Fish are stunned when traveling through the turbines making them easy targets. ...Jerry

Vegas Pro Workflow Bugs as found in 19 and now Version 20
@weinerschizel DNG files are not "RAW". https://www.adobe.com/creativecloud/file-types/image/comparison/dng-vs-raw.html#diff_dng_raw Perhaps you should be asking for better DNG support? PNG, TIFF or even JPG should be adequate for video. It should be noted that several camera brands use DNG as their RAW format. Notably Leica. ...Jerry

Mercalli 5 Plugin Update Problems
@diverG I got it in a sale package from Magix when I upgraded to Vegas 19. Don't remember how much the Mercalli 5 added to my upgrade price but it was significantly lower than what proDAD charges. The downside is that this license is only good for 2 years. ...Jerry

This is a real longshot, but you didn't drag your video files directly from your memory card to Vegas, did you? If so, once you unplug the memory card, Vegas cannot find them. ...Jerry

Fix focus breathing
I love Topaz Sharpen AI and use it regularly for my stills but I doubt that it would be a great tool for fixing focus breathing where the change of focus in an uncorrected lens gives the appearance of zooming on the scene. The following video does a good job of explaining this effect. If I were attempting to fix focus breathing in Vegas, I'd try pan/crop and key frame the event. ...Jerry

Vegas 18 User Interface - Thumbnail/button Strangeness
Turns out the "GPU acceleration for Windows Platform Foundation (WPF) panels" flag was already set to FALSE. Possibly it was set when I switched off the HighDPI setting?? The strange thing is that I turned on HighDPI once again and "GPU acceleration for Windows Platform Foundation (WPF) panels" remained FALSE. But... my display is working fine. So I'm happy. Solved! The fix was in a Vegas 18 setting (preference). There is a (new to Vegas 18) setting named "Use Alternate HighDPI Settings". . Once I unchecked that option the problem disappeared. Thanks for those who commented on my question....Jerry

Speaking of wildlife. I mostly shoot stills now but think I might get back into making some videos. It's been several year since I've done much with Vegas and I'm surprised how much I've forgotten about video editing. Here's a short video clip I shot this morning with a Canon R5 / 600mm F/4L IS USM II + 1.4x teleconverter. Used the camera's internal SloMo mode which captures at 120fps. ...Jerry

Thanks so much @Jack S & @john_dennis I have to admit I was rather dubious about the driver update solution because my Intel Driver was only about a month old and my Nvidia driver was the latest - just released this week. However, I figured... okay I'll update the Intel Driver. What can it hurt? And Viola! the Intel update fixed the problem. For those that are unaware... many (most?) laptops use a combination of motherboard and add-in Display Adapters for power saving. Thanks again!...Jerry

Thanks for the kind words @Musicvid. The Ward Museum of Wildfowl Art asked me to make a 5-minute video for their annual Art in Nature Photo Festival. This year it's all digital because of the covid-19 pandemic. I must admit I'm much more comfortable behind the camera than in front of it. I think I'm okay making live presentations where I can interact with the audience but I'm not very good presenting in front of the camera. The video won't be linked to their site until early July. Of course, the entire video was edited in Vegas Pro 12. Stay safe everyone!...Jerry

Still Using DNxHD and Handbrake??
@Musicvid My website was hosted by GoDaddy. Their "Violations Team" froze my account because I was hosting my own videos and linking to .zip files (still don't know why that was an issue).
