Vegas 20 crashed without any bak file saved.
@Jimigune, VegaSaur will also do this. I am running Vegas Pro 17 (which does NOT have this auto backup feature). I quit trusting Vegas YEARS ago not to crash. Besides the autobackup feature, it's FULL of other tools one can use to make Vegas Pro life a little more tolerable.

@Wyatt-Boatright, How are you dealing with your interlaced issue? Have you tried Happy Otter Scripts (HOS)?HOS is a GAME CHANGER. Often, open source works better than "box or can" software, especially where deinterlacing is concerned. You can get a FREE trial here: https://tools4vegas.com/home/ Be sure to check out his demos. I see none for deinterlacing, BUT, they may help you with other issues down the road. The Help File / Manual does deal with deinterlacing. "Best" way to upscale SD 4:3 footage to HD
@RedRob-CandlelightProdctns "Wondering about HOS deinterlacing... doesn't it use ffmpeg in the background, same open source tool that it seems Topaz uses?" I would not "wonder" about HOS, I would TRY HOS. It's a free trial. Every piece of software I am aware of uses ffmpeg. It's the building block(s). How software EXECUTES what is "under the hood" is of utmost importance. I am not sure what or how Topaz has chosen to accomplish this (deinterlacing). I do not use anything but HOS for my deinterlacing needs. With Topaz, I'd bet ffmpeg is involved. If the footage does not deinterlace "proper" with HOS, it's NOT the fault of HOS. It's probably settings or garbage footage to start with. You can put lipstick on a pig but guess what............ it's STILL a pig. I think this has been covered but remember, you CAN NOT deinterlace progressive footage. It's easy to slip the wrong source clip onto the timeline IF you have several "flavors" to choose from. Last, software will do exactly what it's told to do. The bad thing about that fact is, Software will do exactly what it's told to do. HOS uses open source deinterlacing. It is the best in my humble opinion. Musicvid recommended HOS to me years ago. My only regret is not trying it sooner. It's a GAME CHANGER for so much more than JUST deinterlacing.

"Best" way to upscale SD 4:3 footage to HD
@RedRob-CandlelightProdctns "So with Topaz.. what would the workflow be?" Topaz would be last in my work flow. I would not use Vegas Or Topaz to deinterlace. I would use Happy Otter Scripts, (HOS), to deinterlace. HOS uses open source deinterlacing. It's WAY faster and better than Vegas. It blows Borris, (BCC deinterlacing), away! After HOS deinterlacing is used, you will THEN run that output file through Topaz. Under the very first Topaz "presets" option, use "upscale to HD". Under Enhancement, use the Artemis model. I would start with medium for the "Input Video Condition". The better you tell Topaz your video input quality is, the LESS work it will do on it. Use no other settings in Topaz. This should help. It should help A LOT. The Proteus model seems to be less aggressive in an "auto mode". I also use hardware to deinterlace while I capture. This may or may not improve your clip(s). If you do not have the source footage, this won't matter to you.

This works good in some situations. You will need to play with some of the "models". In Vegas, we would call them "presets". Some models are more customizable than others. In most cases, the above link will produce good results. Of course, garbage in, garbage out. The link should at least provide "good enough" results. I have found results to be middle of the road to stunning.

@jetdv, Where do I get the script? "However, once YOU know the size," I guess I am confusing zoom in and out, (percentages in my mind), with the time code of the current cursor position. In my case, maybe they are one in the same? "So in the script where it says "00:00:05:00", I would change that to "00:03:50:00". Would I have to change this value on every new video I work on? "You could even modify the script so that it would be centered around the area where the cursor is currently located (if that makes sense depending on where the cursor is located)." I would not even began to know how to do this. Is this something you could assist with? I saw on your site that you do custom script work. @DMT3, Thanks for the suggestion. If I can avoid another "thing" on my desk, I'm for the software solution.

Zoom to 4 Frames (Using Hot Keys?)
@jetdv, Thanks for your reply. I found the video interesting. Zooming in is not my issue. My issue is zooming out, to a very specific place, that would allow using the right arrow key, when pressed once, to move 4 frames per each press. For example, if my curser is at 00:55:15;00 and I run a script via a "keypress", at that point, pressing the right arrow key once would give me a new time of 00:55:16;04. This is about four frames. If I hold down the right key, (no Alt+Right Arrow Key), the courser will scrub only 4 frames, no matter how rapid it may appear to the eye. The possibility, or lack thereof, is unclear to this non-script writer. Feel free to PM me @jetdv should you feel it better to take this conversation "offline". I look forward to your response.

@Musicvid, THANK YOU! It seems to have worked. I closed and restarted VP 17 3 times. No more advertisements. One would think that when you tick this box, it would disable this option in preferences and take effect on next restart. As @vkmast's thread points out, it's only for THAT particular advertisement. Again, many thanks.

Scenalyzer Live and Windows 11
UPDATE: @Musicvid @jetdv THIS article is dead wrong: https://www.studio1productions.com/Articles/Firewire-1.htm The funny thing is, it's dated MARCH of THIS year (2022), AND indicates it was "updated" to include this specific information about NOT needing the legacy driver, (for WINDOWS 11). The fact is, If you want to use Scenalyzer Live with Windows 11, you MUST continue to use the legacy Windows 1394-IEEE drivers with TI Chipset. I do not care what they say in this article. I'm having a hard time grasping what capture device they tested that was able to use the stock driver that came with Windows 11. I use an ADVC-300 connected to a "Ableconn PEX-FW107 1394b & 1394a 3-Port PCI Express (PCIe) Low Profile FirwWire Host Adapter Card - TI XIO2213 Chipset" Again, Scenalyzer Live may NOT recognize your capture device without the use of legacy Windows 1394-IEEE drivers with TI Chipset in Windows 11. The day may come when a later version of Windows breaks all ability to capture using these legacy drivers and the like. When I was told Windows 11 was basically Windows 10 with lipstick, they were not lying. +1 for @jetdv. We still need the old legacy Windows 1394-IEEE drivers with TI Chipset as you suspected. +1 @Musicvid because the only reason I even knew such a driver was needed, for Windows 10, was because he told me. Thankfully, I never forgot it. All seems to be working fine, at the moment, with my captures.

@Musicvid Yes. I am referring to the " legacy Windows 1394-IEEE drivers with TI Chipset ". In fact, under Windows 10, you are the one that told me I needed the legacy drivers. I used legacy drivers for years under Windows 10 with little to no issues. In researching Windows 11, I found someone stating that under Windows 11, legacy drivers are no longer needed. I'm asking for a second opinion. It's my understanding that under the hood, Windows 11 is just Windows 10 with lipstick.

To anyone else looking for fonts, (Vegas Pro in my case), I found some FREE fonts here: https://www.mediafire.com/file/vw7ki7uvutj3aes/Ultimate_Font_Pack.zip/file The instructions to install can be found here: (SMASH "Like" to Help out Alex please). I also found this FREE site: https://www.dafont.com/ The instructions to install are just about the same. You DO need to extract the folder first, THEN right click and select "install". I am using Windows 11. Be sure to restart Vegas or you won't see the fonts.

Better Text and Titles For Vegas Pro 17
@Dexcon I looked at both of these programs you pointed out. They may prove useful in the future. Right now, I am just looking for some sort of text that is more elegant than Vegas Pro 17 offers. I wonder if such a plugin exists without all the 3D fancy stuff. I am putting together a wedding video, not a cartoon or a blockbuster movie. If I am stuck with these options, I may be better off sticking with the "Pacifico" style of text. I am looking for something like this: Thanks @monoparadox and @Grazie for your input. I may have to do what @monoparadox is suggesting. It's yet another learning curve, but maybe a better option. Maybe someone out there has done a YouTube video showing the basics of what I need to do.

Wedding Video Gear Advise
@Dexcon, Thanks for the follow up information. I will preform additional testing of start and stop recording on my AX700 using the larger cards. The "extended life" batteries I purchased seem to cause an issue with files being written to the card(s). The factory included battery does not have this issue. I'll explain. I tried to record continuous with the "extended life" batteries. When the batteries died, I had NO file. When the FACTORY battery died, (that did not have "extended life"), I HAD a file. I was testing to see how long the batteries would go. That's how I discovered the issue. Any thoughts?

I sent an oops email to Photography PX, (aimed Devaun Lennox). They should forward the error to him for correction. That said, he really does have some great reviews. "Sony's hot shoe is not very good" Thank you for this need to know. I have purchased the same bracket you have. If it will not fit, (holes lining up), I will modify the bracket to make it fit. I have spoken with the owner at DM Accessories. He made that bracket you have. He thinks it will work. If it does not, he will consider making mods for the AX700 product line. He really is a nice guy. I can't say that for most northerners I have spoken to in the past. At present, the bracket is only sold through B and H and his site. He is considering adding it to Amazon. Thanks for confirming my suspicions that plugging in anything to the mic input on the camera disabled the onboard cameras mic. Yes, one of the reasons I chose the Rhode 2 system was that onboard backed up audio. Now I'll have 2 copies of, in my case, (the soon to be), marriage vows. I guess I would have 3 copies if the front mics on this Zoom H4n Pro work well. Obviously, I am not counting on them for this very important part of the marriage ceremony. "you'd have the camera audio that could likely become a guide track assuming that the camera is not a long way from the people speaking" I would welcome Rhode to expand on the Go 2, making it 32bit capture rather than 24bit. Same goes for the Zoom h4n Pro. I hear that a 32bit capture is better for adjusting loud sounds, (clipping), in post. Likewise, soft sounding audio can also be "boosted" better, in post, (I hear). "Apologies for repeating some of the points" No worries. Your thoughts and comments were appreciated. I am extremely glad I have not been 100% on my own for these critical decisions. @Dexcon Hey there Dexcon. Thanks for the additional link. Both links compliment each other for sure. One thing I note is the link I provided is a little newer. (posting date). I guess that's why Nick's post, (that you provided), does not contain quite as many folders to manually remove. As to my comment that read "My understanding is that starting with Vegas Pro 18, there is a backup option, that can be imported to a clean install of Pro 18 and newer." No. This comment has nothing to do with "resetting" Vegas Pro 17 to factory defaults. I DO thank you for the link. It's something I am thinking of doing before I try a complete clean install. I am awaiting more responses first. I just want to be sure I've backed up everything I can before I wipe it all out.

Importance of Updating GeForce RTX 3070 TI Drivers
I get the feeling @john_dennis feels these updates my not be all that important, at least on a regular basis. I would be curious if he uses the STUDIO drivers. Perhaps I'm reading to much into his comment. That said, has anyone actually seen a render speed up or slow down because you did an update? I have seen Both positive and negative results when updating say Windows over the years.
