VEGAS Pro 18 Update 5 (build 527)
I have just tried to download the 527 update and it downloads then asks me to update again, over and over. It will not let me update at all. Strange.

@david-ruby Hi David. I’m sure you already know that the optimal setup is for the project properties to match the media properties, for smoothest playback. I’m guessing here, is it the case that your project needs to be 24fps and you have a small amount of 30fps phone footage. If thats the case, make life easier by converting the phone clips to 24fps before adding to the project, using either Handbrake or the VFR2CFR files. Thank you JN. Yes we tried earlier to convert to 23.976 in handbrake as constant and it still had issues. I did find this out today though. There is an issue with Handbrake. If you try to take Hevc footage and change the frame rate from variable to constant? You must choose 24 not 23.976 to get constant. There is a reported bug with it that seems to be hit and miss but we can reproduce it every time. File now works fine for us in Vegas Pro 18.

I have tried Handbrake to change to constant frame rate. It does make the 30 fps Hevc into an Avc and constant frame rate, but dropping it on a 24 fps timeline still makes it sluggish and fighting a bit. But If I place it on it's own timeline at it's own frame rate? Seems fine. Bummer. LOL. That's why I guess my phone is not a smart phone. : ) You Android you. Just kidding.

@david-ruby Theres a link in my profile to a zip download, VFR2CFR.zip, designed primarily for converting VFR to CFR phone footage. There is also the option to output to Prores. The 4 (Prores) batch files 05 ... .bat to 06a ... .bat. requires and needs ffmpeg, added to the Windows PATH, instructions are in the readme. Thank you kind sir!!

@david-ruby The problem with phone video is that it is variable frame rate. Anytime you "transcode" using the apps you mention or the script suggested by @JN- you lose some quality since the media file is re-rendered. It is far better and faster to "rewrap" your media file into a new container and convert from variable frame rate to constant frame by adjusting the Presentation Time Stamps. Here's an example using the ImportAssist tool in HappyOtterScipts in which the iPhone11 media file is UHD HEVC at 60fps. As you can see, it's very quick compared to transcoding plus no loss in quality. https://vimeo.com/414271488/b80168621d Use of proxies as suggested by @fr0sty is a good idea if your system is on the relatively "weak" side. The only problem is that proxy creation in Vegas is extremely slow. Another tool just added to HOS is KwikProxy which increases proxy creation speeds--especially for hevc footage in the order of 6X to 8X. If you have a GPU that supports HEVC decoding in hardware, you can massively improve your HEVC timeline performance by ensuring that hardware decoding is enabled in the file i/o tab of preferences. This is only for VEGAS 17+, however. Other than that, handbrake is ok, or you can just create proxies of the media by right clicking on it in your project media window, and selecting "create video proxy". Then when you set your preview quality to "Draft" or "Preview", it will automatically show the reduced quality proxy that will play back far smoother than HEVC, and when you go to render, it automatically swaps the proxies out with the original HEVC files, so you get no quality loss. Thank you Frosty! I did try turning on HEVC decode earlier and no results even with a rtx 2070 super gpu and a computer to easily handle the strain. Proxies on a timeline that is 2160 4k on GOOD (FULL) would not work to well. It drags abit.

Audio glitches when scrolling up and down timeline
This is footage from a sony a73. I did try this on 1920X1080p xavc-s footage and there was a little bit of stop go on the meters but nowhere near as bad as 4k footage problems with the glitch screen movements.

Thanks Musicvid. Still nothing on this one. No support yet. I tried every option on drivers possible. Nothing changed. It is so weird though. I will make a change like resizing the timeline to where it's as so squeezed to the top that you can't see the images on the media. Then it works fine. BUT, after a few minutes it is right back to glitching. Totally scratching head on this one. Gonna try support again tommorrow.

I had this problem a year ago - and quite long to finally solved it. I need to reinstall my official audio driver in my i950 system. I must ask. What is an i950 system. I'll probably look dumb now LOL.

Honestly I don't know yet. Hope to hear back from Eric but German time is hard to keep up with. I might just borrow another audio unit from a studio and see if it is audio driver related. I will also reach out to nvidia. I can work without an external monitor of course but would love to really see what is going on. I will keep this alive so if anyone ever has this happen they can breathe again LOL. I will update soon. Thank you for your help everyone here.

Musicvid That didn't seem to work but I believe I narrowed this down. It seems I only get this error after render and closing out timeline when I have the external monitor engaged. I don't have a clue on this but I can reproduce everytime now doing this. I can only guess audio or video driver? Both up to date though.

Which audio device is choosen at Options/Preferences/Audio Device? If you have more than one choose another or upgrade your drivers for them. AudioBox ASIO Driver. My meters on audio plugins were not in sync with the actual audio so I was told to use asio drivers. This did fix that problem. I have also listed mapper and windows classic drivers. The windows classic seems to work with audio plugin meters but if you move anything on the timeline around you get drop outs from the audio playing back. Mapper does not help meters. Unfortunately Presonus has discontinued the audiobox usb driver updates but it was last updated 7-2020.

Second monitor gone. Now I have a full screen
Ok. Here's what I got. I went into preview device and found device defaults button. I hit it and boom. External is back. It seems adjustment levels from rgb and vertical sync were checked. Why? I have no clue. Never touched anything in this tab. I might have a ASIO gremlin somewhere because every time I shutdown computer. Vegas reverts back to sound mapper rather than my Audio box ASIO driver. I have to restart VP18 to get the driver to show up again to choose i. I did send this off to Eric.

Try unplugging and replugging your HDMI cable. Yep tried all the obvious. Different ports on the back of card. Restarting machine. Restarting, then turning vegas on, then starting external monitor. Staring with external on and starting vegas. Everything shows up as the right numbered monitors in Nvidia, Vegas, and windows. I can move my cursor over to the external monitor like it is working just fine.

Just upgraded to 18 and STILL having jittering in preview.
No need for proxies for just the media generator but you said it happened with footage on the timeline correct? If so does it do this with proxies? I did just try your screen setup and have no problems here. I even made the clouds move. I did notice your preview is different from your project.Just starting vegas and dropping the text and the clouds on time line, shows both project and preview at 1920x1080. Did you change the preview size? Yours is 480x270. Just curious.

I agree @andyrpsmith. His is better than mine as well; I7 3930 and gtx 1050 ti. But I too still get the same problems he has. Want to upgrade but waiting to see at this point. I had proxies do the same here as well. @Craig-Lewis have you tried proxies??

This is as basic as it gets....not even using video files yet.....only vegas generated content. GPU Acceleration: Tried off and Optimal NVIDIA Geforce GTX 1070 File I/O all unchecked Same issue here still.

This is a known issue for some. I have had this since vegas 15. I have a big thread on the forum about this as well and a few tickets to support . Still no solid answer to why this happens. Fingers crossed.

Drop frames and stutter between clips not dropped.
Here is what I get. I looped this segment to show the pause. It doesn't do it during the first clips but it does it every time on the last one. Which if I was to put another clip at the end it would pause and jump to the new last one. cpu and gpu both running around 20% and 9 gbs of ram. I picked some hand held setting up b roll cutting room floor shots so you could see the pause better. Def. not used in final video thank you LOL!!!! I don't suck that bad LOL : ) I tried again with proxies but she crashed on me. Could be because the Vegas capture window was left open. No clue.
