Vegas Pro 16 as a DAW
I used to use it before I needed MIDI, so it is great for recording live stuff and editing, but if you need more then probably not a good idea. Samplitude pro X is what I settled on and it has been great.

Vegas and iPhone video performance - strange
Also, any ideas on how to make the editing of iPhone footage less like pulling teeth without pain management? Don't use iPhone and problem solved. It's an overpriced toy anyway.

Let's Talk About Lower Thirds
BlackMagic fusion is free and is like AfterEffects x 10. You can do pretty much anything with it. AE is a little faster for motion graphics, but you can do it all in fusion and you can also do anything you would ever need to do to your videos. Nothing else needed. Adobe, Boris, NewBlue, whatever %$^&*, is all crap compared to Fusion. And it's free ( last time I checked ). Laptop for running newest Vegas?
Just because you get a nice screen on a 13" Alienware does not mean you will get a nice one on 15" and 17" versions and I think 15" is the minimum I can go with, in fact from reviews you definitely will not get as nice a screen on those larger laptops. 15" and 17" screens I've seen looked average at best, so even though I really liked the designs I decided to stick with Clevo laptops. Much better screens.

Laptop for running newest Vegas?
Problem with Alienware is that for the price they use crap screens, sometimes really crappy. Laptop itself looks great now that they have moved on from those cartoony designs from their past, but for those prices I expect the best screen available, not some crap you can find on a $600 Dell Inspiron. To go back to car analogies it's like sticking a Hyunday engine into a Ferrari. It is called VIDEO editing, and everything we do on a PC ends up as visual information on screen. Screen is the most important component here.

Well, you said beefy and it does not get any beefier than this ( literally, and in $$$. And you do get the best screen along with everything else. Is that a joke? What else would you buy if you wanted speed? I would only make sure that GPU/drivers work well with Vegas, but the rest is a no brainer. Well, if you want the best Samplitude is the one. I am sure there are a few other programs which would work just as well ( Cubase, Studio one maybe ). These days not difficult to find a good DAW. I would have stuck with Vegas , but started using MIDI drums so had to make a switch to ACID, but wanted something more and Samplitude just looked the best overall. Extras you get with suite version are excellent. As for phoning home, I never noticed anything and I don't always have connection ON on my DAW laptop. Only activated it right after installing it a few years ago and again when installing new version early this year( pro X 3 ). Updating windows did not cause any additional activation requests.

Replacement for Acid 7
Samplitude ( also by Magix ). I switched from Vegas and ACID to that and have been pretty happy. I have never used loops much, so you should try it out and see if it works for you, but overall Samplitude is probably the best DAW you can buy

Can Vegas do this trick?
Now that I see from reading the post here that it's very time consuming and you need to layout some big $$$ on new software Fusion is free and although some tracking features are not included in that free version, you can probably still pull it off, so no need for expensive software. Time consuming, probably, but isn't everything worth doing like that? And I just have to mention it again, I still cannot believe that something like Fusion is free. Following that logic Adobe should pay us to use AfterEffects

This is not a job for any editor. You should go with Fusion ( or AfterEffects, or similar ). Mocha is only a tracker right? So I guess it should be better at that than Fusion, but overall Fusion is probably as good as it gets. I mean, major huge budget films use Fusion. It can do pretty much anything. It's up to you to learn how.

Fusion is free ( blackmagic site ) and it also includes Primatte keyer. Hard to beat at any price and now it's free, so...........

Will Vegas Pro 15 have MIDI audio functionality ?
I would rather that Acid was first upgraded to 64 bit Yeah, but since Magix owns Samplitude I don't see the point. Samplitude is a much better DAW and you can buy it right now.

Creator? I could be wrong, but it seems he is just ripping off other people's animations and music, then adding some crap effects. If that is the case I am too busy thinking about how he should have his kneecaps smashed, so cannot concentrate on effects so much.

Well, I have no idea which tools Vegas has, but I'm telling you, VR is a bust. They need at least another 10 years of work to make it viable. The headset is the problem. Most people will not pay to wear that shit.

So it could be ( and often is ) user set up problems On my side I use Samplitude suite and it is probably the best DAW you can buy, Some plugins that come with it like Vandal and ammunition are awesome, I also use Zebra and Hive as my main synths and Addictive drums for drums. Never had any problems with any of this within Samplitude.

I have been hearing about VR as the big new frontier since 1995, it's not happening. Too many negatives. Occulus and other shit, It will fail so miserably that comparatively 3D TVs will look like the greatest invention ever.
