proDAD Adorage 12--now with 64-bit support!
Erni, I don't know if you have noticed the last post where Mr Fulton told: "As for the black screen problem, I believe there has recently been a new release of the 64-bit support part of Adorage. Re-run the download manager periodically to get the latest version. If there has been an update, you'll receive it and it will hopefully eliminate the problem." As I currently have no 64-bit system to retest, I am just wondering if someone else did already retest.

10b cineform 5 yuv 4:2:2 without alpha channel
Hi, I just tried your suggestion. As soon as I select the Cineform codec and save the preset, the alpha checkbox is reselected automatically. Bye, David Arendt

proDAD Adorage 12--now with 64-bit support!
As Adorage now has 64bit support, I upgraded to Windows 7 Ultimate 64bit and Vegas Pro 10 64bit . The interface works correctly but in preview and rendering, I do only get black screens instead of the Adorage Transition. Has anyone already tried this ?

ot: documentary about Venice
thanks for sharing your opinions farss: concerning the voiceovers, their recording was not under my control as they were recorded by a voiceover recording studio. I don't have the possibilty to record them myself as the person doing them is 500km away from here. I think I will try what I can do with them with the de-essing filter. xberk: concerning hidden parts of Venice, the production has actually 12 parts. Actually the project shows the 6 sestieri (town parts) of Venice and some extra chapters. Acutally it starts with San Marco which is well known and continues with the Campanile which is related to San Marco. The gondola trip should be a little distraction from the typical documentary. I have published part 4 (San Polo) where there are still some known parts as the Rialto bridge is in this siesteri. Dorsoduro, Canareggio, Castello and Santa Croce are less known to tourists except for the known ways always used by them. Part 5 is some historical footage about regata storica. so the real hidden parts start at part 6. Perhaps I should change the order and begin with the not well known sestieris and continue with the known ones. What is your opinion on this ? Actually I am trying to get a bit a mix between documentary and travelogue.

9.0d&e - slow loading Lagarith
For my part, I am using Virtualdub to generate the Cineform files. Are other ones having the problem also using Virtualdub ?

You seem to have exactly the same problem with Lagarith files I am having with Cineform files. Are your files on a local harddisk or a network drive ? Please contact customer support about this issue as if more people are contacting them, it might be easier for them to find common things between people having the issue.

I still have the same slow project opening issue. Using aviplug.dll from 9.0c resolves the problem. I have posted a support request to Sony. It would be nice if everyone where the problem still exists would post a support request.

Vegas Pro 9.0d
I have just reported the problem to customer support. I think really everyone should do this, as it's the only way for Sony to get a feeling if it is a big problem or a problem only affecting certain people. A have also added as much project and media information as possible as well as where project and media files are stored, so it might be easier for Sony to find common things between people experiencing the problems.

For my part, I always use clonezilla to do an image of my OS partition before updating anything, so in 20 minutes, I am always back if anything goes wrong.

Copying the aviplug.dll from 9.0c also seems to solve the slow project opening problem for me, thanks.

While 9.0d is stalling there is network activity of about 10mbit/s. The same thing is the case in 9.0c except that there it is only this activity during 10 seconds. The througput I can get while copying files is more than 500mbit/s so it seems not to be a network issue

The thing that might be special for my case is the fact that I have projects and media stored on a file server. Are other people experiencing the same slow loading of projects loading them from local discs or network drives ?

I am now at 9.0c with latest NEOHD and the project is opening in 10 seconds so it should be a Vegas problem. I think I will wait until 9.0e before trying to upgrade again.

I have upgraded to Vegas 9.0d and upgraded to latest NEOHD. Yes I know, never update two things at once. A project located on a network drive which took 10 seconds to open in 9.0c now takes about 10 minutes to open. Also switching to another window and back takes about 10 minutes now. Once the project is on screen, everything seems to work flawlessly. I will now go back to 9.0c and upgrade only NEOHD to see if it is Vegas 9.0d or NEOHD that is causing problems.

OT: venice acqua alta video shot with the ex1
Acqua Alta is mainly due to seasonal winds, named the scirocco. In long term, there is also the combination of sinking soil level and rise of sea levels. If you want to say so, Venice is burrying itself more and more into the sands on which it is built. If I remember right, Venice is sinking about 10 centimenters in 100 years or something like that. Piazza San Marco generally is covered by a bit of water beginning at approximately 80cm above sea level. This time they had 135cm above sea level so you can say that Piazza San Marco was covered by approximately 55cm of water. At 135cm approximately 70% of Venice is covered by water. Venice knew its worst Acqua Alta in 1966 with a level of 194cm of high water. As we are very interested in Venice, we did 1120km by car 2 times within 2 days just to get some acqua alta footage for our documentary as soon as we saw 135cm on the tide forecast with seems to be very precise for 24 hours. For people living in Luxembourg, this is quite a huge trip - people living in the USA may find this a small excursion, as distances in your country are not the same...1120km might sound ridiculous to some of you. :) We will go back on December, 31th to capture footage from the beginning of the new year. We are simply fascinated by Venice.

OT Pondering No Anti-Virus
I use no anti virus at all. The editing machine has no internet connection at all. It contains a Windows XP SP3 without any additional updates, so I can reproduce the exact state of the installation. The only times I hook it up to the internet is to perform software activation. For every internet related things, I use a Gentoo Linux machine. Media I receive from customers are also being read through this machine, so there is no risk for the Windows machine, no anti virus costs, and no slowdown due to anti virus.

DNxHD Intermediate..... any users here?
Hi, I was testing the use of dnhxd in vegas some weeks ago, Everything went well (except lower performance than cineform) as long as I had less then 10 clips in the project. One more clip and vegas crashed. I am not sure if the crash was vegas, quicktime or dnxhd related. The files have also been created by ffmpeg like in your case.

JVC GY-HM700
Hi, unfortunately I don't know if the mov files from that particular camcorder work well in Vegas but when doing dnxhd tests vegas did lookup after using more then 10 mov files on a timeline. However I don't know if quicktime, vegas or dnxhd was causing this. For the case you have not bought the GY-HM700 yet: My video equipement vendor showed me a side by side comparison between it and the EX1 and I decided for the EX1 for 2 reasons. 1, low light seems better on the EX1 2. no autofocus which I generally avoid but is handy if you are in hurry to get one shot A big advantage over the EX1 is the ability to use SDHC cheap SDHC cards natively without adaptor.

Vegas deinterlace: my new understanding
As I do a lot of processing, I want to eliminate multiple deinterlacing/reinterlacing generations. Therefore I now deinterlace everything to 1080p50 files, do all the editing and afterwards reinterlace. I also render at 1080p50. So if the final customer wants 50p, I give the files like they are. If he wants 25p, I throw every second frame. If he wants interlaced, I reinterlace. You need to have more space and convert source footage to 50p, but you have one workflow for all delivery formats.
