2560 x 1440 Monitor Compatibility
Just to report that the new Dell 2515 works perfectly with Vegas 11 and 13. Also works great with Premiere CC and AE. The extra 1 inch and higher DPI makes a big difference to my eyes. At 2560x1440 the icons remain the same size. Highly recommended!

Many thanks to all the helpful responses! I'm planning for a Dell 25" monitor. The extra one inch allows high res and I work with some 4K stuff now so I would really love to have a sharper screen. Time to make the purchase!

Sony A7S S log2 Workflow
Agreed. I'm just disappointed that Sony Vegas as part of the Sony family is not fully integrated with Sony hardware. I love the Vegas GUI and can't stand the way Premiere works (too text based for me). But it seems like I'm forced to move to Premiere or FCPx if I really want to grade S log stuff.

Canon C300 C log Workflow
Thanks Marco. Looks like a lost cause to attempt to edit in Vegas. I dislike Premiere but they have such wonderful LUT support. I wonder if Vegas would ever get there. They can't even support 3D LUT for Sony cameras. The current V12 workflow is a little hard to achieve consistency IMHO.

V13, How to apply S-Log LUT?
Thanks Bob. Spend one week with the A7S now and the S log has its issues. It can only do ISO3200 at minimal!! Its crazy in daylight so I mounted a variable ND filter. Seems to do the trip but the art of gauging exposure is very difficult. I'm still meddling to find if it has some exposure waveforms to help guide us. Also, I'm unsure which ACES profile is the most suitable. I found the workflow below for F55 but there is nothing for the new S-Log on the A7s yet. The colours do POP but now I have a few problems: 1. Using the same method it works great on daylight footage, but looks incredibly noisy in low light shots. the A7s is supposed to be really good but it turns out horrible. In 8 bit it looks noiseless. 2. I'm mixing C300, 5D3, 6D all in one timeline. Once ACES RRT is on the rest of the footage will look unusually BLUE, Orange. 3. V13, How to apply S-Log LUT?
I found the answer by LUCK! Go to Properties > 32bit FULL RANGE > Select one of the ACES options. Shooting slightly over exposed on the screen works wonderfully. We were way off in our test tonight of the A7S by under exposing... but the day light slight over exposure turned out excellent.

I have the same issue with my Dell XPS but even after disabling the DDI scaling it doesn't work. Wonder whats wrong!

Sony Vegas to Davinci Resolve Rountrip Tutorial
Hi folks, I had a good chat with Davinci Resolve PM 2 days back and he explained that the 5D3 doesnt have a timecode so to speak. Adobe cleverly adds some frame count / timecode reference for Canon DSLR files in the xml so Resolve knows where the clips start and end. The good news is the Vegas helpdesk has responded that they are working on it already (hopefully within V12 !). While i wish they had done it in the first place since DSLR users are definitely not a small group in Vegas.

Hi Jason, just tried the new workflow with both xml and aaf but it still fails to work due to the timecode mismatch issue for 5D3 files. Seems that Vegas resets the timecode. No workaround at the moment except to go via Ppro again.

Yup, XML still doesnt with with 5D3 files for the timecode extension issue. Reseting the timecode to 0 it seems. I hope Blackmagic can do something as all NLEs seems to be having this issue.

Vegas vs FCPX vs Premiere vs Avid
Vegas is plain EASY to pick up and use. It doesnt have the support of camera manufacturers due to Sony but it does get there (DSLR). - It is FAST. You do not need to import files, and pre render on the timeline. Ture Drag n Drop for transistions / vfx - For the price it can do RED, DSLR, and almost anything you throw at it. - Audio tools rocks - It has some compositing capability unlike the rest which requires multiple software (and more learning curve) when many times you just need some simple compositing moves - The CC is not fantastic but i do manage to get something useable. They just lack compatibility (like XML support) for interfacing with other software like Adobe, BM Davinci, etc - It now supports more plugins (a step up from V11) which was one of the reasons why i went for CS5.5 but now that is fixed I have FCP and CS5.5 but i still love (n use) Vegas the most.

Did anyone watch SCS's DVDA webinar today?
Great stuff! Didnt know DVDA could animate keyframes too. Check out the advanced stuff from Jigital Juice as well. I learnt most of my tech from there. Davinci Resolve & Vegas Pro 10
Yes I had a go in the Blackmagic office and the motion tracker is plain awesomeness. I just bought the Adobe PPremium and had a go but i still love Vegas. I hope Vegas can offer xml support in V12. that is like the sore thumb of FCPX folks!

Vegas Pro 11 – detailed specifications
Took me a long time to get to know the titler well enough! Hopefully the new titler would be way easier. I think this version is really to make it easier to edit DSLR stuff with the GPU support. CS5.5 is taking over the world, everyone around me has jumped ship! Praying hard that V11 would fly with DSLR stuff.

neat effect - how to do it in Vegas?
Thanks for the great video, i managed to do the typing text FX because of that! Now I have one question Johnny, I want to end the text with a blinking underscore. What is the best way? I tried using pro titler but it is so tedious as I have to keyframe step by step. Are we able to repeat the 1st two points (opacity) down the time line?
