Possible bug, no Alpha Channel Renders in V11????
Well, it seems it might be official now that V11 can only render alpha channel in uncompressed formats. I finally noticed the little tick box near the bottom of the render dialogue that asks if you want to render alpha channel or not. It states next to the tick box that this is for "uncompressed formats only". How exciting to have render huge/mega file sizes to get our alpha channel files. Not to mention slower renders. Another step back for V11 in my book. Erik

The Avid DNxHD codec I also tried to render in V11 and could not get the alpha channel. I did not try any uncompressed options yet in V11. Are you saying that uncompressed will render the alpha channel in V11? Erik

The logic for me is that each new version brings new features and new complexity to code of the software. If you can't get the previous version right, your foundation for V11 is shaky from the very beginning. I'm not a coder so maybe this is where the logic fails but I see each version building on the previous. My strategy in the past was always wait until the last release of a version and it should be good to go. V10 killed that strategy and now my future with Vegas is in jeopardy. Get 10 fixed and then we will see where we are when the last release of 11 comes out. It doesn't look good right now. Erik

Ray, I think you make a good point but the reality here is that many of us have at least temporarily given up on getting a daily workhorse V11 version. We feel that if Sony would at least fix the huge "replaced footage" bug in V10 that at least the bleeding would be stopped for awhile. I agree with Chienworks in that I can only rely on V9e to get my work done and as far as I'm concerned that was the last real version of Vegas. Since V10 never was anywhere near as stable as V9 why should we have hopes that V11 will somehow become a solid release? It just doesn't seem realistic in light of the way Sony moved on from V10 and acted like everything was fine. Erik

"i doubt i'll be upgrading to any future release with the enthusiasm i've had for previous versions..." Yes, this is a REAL issue for Sony. Versions 8 had bugs but was basically fixed by the time the last release came out. Version 9 was solid with the glaring exception of the "replaced footage" bug. This was the first warning that there was trouble brewing at Sony. Then Sony came out with V10 which NEVER dealt with the "replaced footage" bug and introduced several other significant bugs that were never repaired. This all represents a big departure for what Sony's expectations are for Sony Vegas and these expectations are creating future problems for them now even if they aren't fully aware of it. If 11 isn't a solid version by it's last release then there will be A LARGE DROP OFF in the number of people lining up to buy Version 12. You can count on that Sony. Erik

I can confirm that it has happened in V8. It is a bug that is in V8, V9 and V10. I thought it was more than reasonable on my part to only request that V10 be repaired. Really, V9e should be too since that was the last stable release from Vegas but I won't ask for too much in hopes that they are willing to give a little. Erik

Peter, really?? The words are from the Preamble to the Constitution. We certainly didn't have nor ever will have a "perfect union" so the simple analogy stands just fine. No need to nitpick.

Thanks Nick for the steps in how you resolved your problem. The dummy event with attributes pasted is an idea I hadn't thought of before. Nice. I also want to add to this thread my name as one of the first (and encourage others too) to officially ask Sony for a 10f release with the bug fix for this nasty problem. I too called for a 10f release yesterday in a different thread. A 10F release would help repair a lot of the damage and ill-will with the latest version of V11 being a complete bust! 10F please!

"I bought a car the year before they invented air bags. I can still drive the car. Is the manufacturer obligated to install air bags in my car?" This is not close to being analogous to the situation I'm describing. We are not talking about a new invention (feature) in V11 over what was in V10. What is analogous is us talking about a major malfunction in our recently purchased 2010 model and the manufacturer should step up and fix this safety hazard. It is literally unsafe to edit any project (especially a major one) in V10 because of this nasty bug of replacing the video on the timeline.

"Fixed an issue that could cause events to use the wrong media in certain circumstances (seen when project is later loaded)." This sounds like "Vegas Replaced the Footage" to me also. Is it completely out of the question for a 10f release just to patch up such a major bug? What do you guys think? Considering the magnitude of the bug and the fact that Sony never fixed it in any prior release, why not give us a patch?

Tirmming causing file corruption
"Nor have i accessed media manager or project media in a similar period of time." I take that to mean you edit by dragging ALL of your content to the timeline from windows explorer and then do all cutting from the timeline? There is no chance of this method working for me just because of the hundreds of choices to be made in each program. I must use and rely heavily on organization tools such as Media Manager, XDCAM Explorer and Project Media using bin creation. No other way to get my arms around the content. Erik

Dave, that is one scary nightmare. That even beats "Vegas Replaced the Video"! I've never heard of anything like that in Vegas or any other NLE. How long have you been using V10 before having this problem? Is it possible you have a virus on your system? Erik
