Trimmer problem?
I think all you need to do is grab with your mouse the thin horizontal line above your audio waveform and pull it back up towards the video pic. It has been sqwunched down is all I think. Erik

Second time this week that a user has posted that their V10e editing project was devastated by the VEGAS REPLACED THE FOOTAGE bug. Footage replacement bug?
Marc, So far, no one has said that they have felt the wrath of this monster bug in V11. Sony stated near the bottom of their release notes on V11 build 510/511 the following: "Fixed an issue that could cause events to use the wrong media in certain circumstances (seen when project is later loaded)." Those 21 words have been interpreted by several on this forum to mean that the "Vegas Replaced the Video" bug was now FINALLY squashed. Marc you wrote: "This is completely ridiculous in a program that is supposedly for pros!" Not just ridiculous but really unacceptable. You paid for a professional copy of Sony Vegas 10 and you never got it. There is no such thing as perfect software but any MAJOR BUG IS EXPECTED TO BE PATCHED. Sony moved on to V11 fully aware that this bug was in V10. A bug that twice in one day your "entire project" was screwed up! I fully believe that when Sony moved onto V11 that they didn't know how to fix the bug but it appears that they do know now where in the code the problem lies. Therefore, now is the time that they should set things right with V10 and it's users. It is not acceptable to tell owners of V10 that they need to pay for an upgrade to V11 to get the fix. You should know that there are a group of people on this forum who have added their name to a thread calling on SCS to release one more update to V10 to patch this MAJOR BUG still in V10! I'm sure it ain't easy but maybe that statement was a bit too much. The Hadron Collider comes to mind as an engineering project whose complexity beats writing code for Sony Vegas. I think it's not so much about the complexity as it is about the quality of the team members working on the project and the expectations that are put on them by management. My feeling is that SCS is failing in both of these areas. Erik

I open the program and before I'm five minutes into any serious editing. CRASH. Back to V9e which was released on May 14, 2010. V10 was released on October 11, 2010. Any calm, rational, civil person can see that I hope. Then they might as well close down the company too then. The users are the ones who have supported each release of Vegas as it is their dollars that makes it go. I took a few minutes to create a list of those who have already added there names to support the release of a new patch from SCS for V10. You wouldn't accept downright mediocrity and incompetence with any other purchase you've made so please don't settle for a buggy, unprofessional V10. SCS thinks they can just move right along to V11 without fixing V10 and we will just roll over and accept it. Christian all of your points are accepted by me as being correct generally speaking but with SCS specifically, "this time is different!" To a degree this was true of Vegas in the past. We bought V8, V9 and V10 with the mentality that we won't be able probably to use the first release but by the .c or .d release we should be good to go. That held true for V8 and V9 for the most part. But this time is different! V10 broke that mold and even still we bought V11 mainly because of SHEER NAIVETY out of just plain hoping for a better future with Vegas. I say naivety as I think we were all a bit naive when we bought V11 and did not pay proper attention to the alarm bells that were being sounded in buggy V10. Grazie, with all due respect for sure, it is really a waste of time to defend SCS these days. I won't cross the line of potentially becoming an enabler for the lowered QC standards coming from SCS. We who paid for V10 NEVER GOT WHAT WE PAID FOR!! I can't use it to get my work done. It really is as simple as that!!! SCS has breached my and others trust. We are NOW pleading with them to correct that error in hopes that we all don't have to move on. We don't want to move on but we certainly aren't being given much of a choice. I've sent tickets to SCS in the past and NEVER heard back once. I gave up on that approach. As it turned out, the tickets I submitted were for the "replaced footage" meltdown but I guess since SCS didn't have anything positive to say they chose to say nothing at all. Sort of like how it is with the ForumAdmin... We've gotten ForumAdmin participation in the past a few times when they were ready to announce an upcoming bug fix. Remember the lost text fiasco in V10? Now that I think about it, that bug was a real warning of what was to come for all of us. A real "what the??" moment which was indicative of the weak coding skills and general lack of quality control at SCS. Nope, this is a smackdown, tough love approach. No enabling here. SCS, ForumAdmin, are you listening? Trust me, this is not a couple of whiners on the forum. Read the thread and you'll quickly see that. We want the V10 we paid for!!

It's more like Sony is selling CRACK! Always promising the high you will get from the next version when the one you have leaves you feeling weak and shaky. We are nearly five months past the release of V11 and it is nowhere near a stable release. FIVE MONTHS! I'm assuming that Sony wouldn't dare release V12 until NAB 2013 considering their current state of affairs. So, how about it Forum Administrator... where does Sony officially stand on giving us at least one more patch for V10?? Forum Administrator...are you there? Does anyone from Sony read the posts on their own forum? We hear from the Forum Administrator on average maybe 2, 3 times in a good year. Now that is real customer service. Erik

Comments on Video Requested
It's a start, and if you are a complete beginner, it is a good start. But I agree with others that you are going to have to work much harder than you already have to get a truly effective video. The best thing about the video is the music track selection. It is a good choice that communicates heartfelt emotion which is a must for this genre to be effective. Having said that, your cuts and pacing aren't close to keeping sync with the energy the track is giving. Pacing is huge. You need many, many more images, cuts, transitions, possibly even some effects; anything that will come closer to matching that emotion the music is giving you. You have to take what you have and massage it much, much further. I now that's tough to do when you are making something from nothing but the music is saying, faster, more intensity, more emotion. I just completed a :60 spot myself where all I had was a brief on-camera bit and the rest had to come from the blank canvas. I spent 62 hours completing the spot!! Even now I can still pick it apart and there plenty of things I would like to have done better but it will broadcast nationally on more than one cable news network. I'm also sure that this forum wouldn't have any trouble pointing out those flaws as well so don't worry about criticism as it is a big part of getting better. I feel another key factor is what I would term cohesion. Giving your video a cohesive feel is even more critical when working with lots of different images from all over the place. How can I make these images all feel like they belong in the same video? What treatments or looks can I create that will not only give the video a cohesive feel but will reinforce and help tell the story. Best to you and and keep editing. Erik

Today's post from Byron K. "Vegas Swapped My Events" shows that the pain is still ongoing for users of V10. We know that Sony now has the fix for this major bug and we are still demanding that V10 get patched. Sony, just once, do something for no other purpose than good PR. You could really use some good PR right now considering the mess that V11 is. I think it would go a very long way in convincing a few people that there is at least some hope for the future of Sony Vegas. My advice today to anyone considering using Sony Vegas is very different than it was a couple of years ago. I used to think I was the smart one using Vegas, now I honestly can't and won't recommend Vegas anymore. If you would patch V10, at least I could say 10 is good and they are working on 11. Now the story is the last two releases are not reliable. Erik Erik Erik

Possible bug, no Alpha Channel Renders in V11????
Thanks Larry. I'll give the QT animation setting a try. I've used this in the past with success also but I don't remember it having significantly smaller file sizes. Still, at least there is one other option at least until the next build of V11 comes out. Erik

A Day in the Life of VP11/10 . . . .
Actually, Elastique was added for V9 first. I use it all the time as V9 is the workhorse that gets it done for me. The big addition in V10 that I wish I could take advantage of is the audio fx option on each event. Much better than having to dedicate an entire track for audio fx. Also, something that I would like to experiment with in V10 is track grouping but I'll wait for release 10f. Still waiting....
