Vegas 11 Iris Transition
Thanks again for the responses. I created a totally new project in Vegas 11, with just 2 clips of solid color, one white and one blue. I added an Iris Circle Out transition between the clips and it works perfectly. When I change the transition parameters to Circle In, the problem described earlier appears again. I also tried it with different shapes and they are behave the same. I also checked that GPU is set to Off. So it looks like the upgrade to Vegas 11 has broken the Iris In transitions, but if anyone has any other suggestions I am happy to try them. Richard

I had that happen to me once over original soundtrack music that I created using Sony Acid. I raised a challenge to their action and eventually they retracted the copytight violation warning. Richard

Thanks for the suggestion. I will take at look at the GPU thing tomorrow, although it's highly likely my graphics card doesn't support GPU rendering anyway. Richard

Thanks for the suggestions. I tried adding and reversing the transition envelope, but it sort of converts it to a Circle Out instead of Circle In. I also tried applying a new transition and it behaved the same way as the original one. I got around the immediate problem for this project by changing to a different type of transition, so there is no real urgency any more. But it would be nice to see this resolved if possible. Richard

Can't Download Vegas 9.0c
Thanks Mikey. I managed to download and install using a Starhub connection. Singtel still doesn't work though. But after all that, 9.0c isn't very stable. Still get red frames and hangs when the project is complex. Ah well, maybe 9.0d will be better. :)

Can't Download Vegas 9.0c
Seems to be an ISP-specific problem so will only affect people in Singapore. I can access the download via Starhub but not Singtel. Very strange. Richard

Just tried some other download options. I can access all the 64-bit versions in all the various languages, but none of the 32-bit versions will download for me. My systems are all 32-bit so this is strange and not very satisfactory. Hmm. Richard

V 9 Upgrade
Where do you see the $185 upgrade price? I only see $249.95 (packaged) and $234.95 (download). Is there another offer available somewhere? Richard

Vocal eraser
SF8 has the Process/Channel Converter function which has a Vocal Cut preset. As farss says though, it is unlikely to work very well on modern recordings. Richard

Accidentally canceled render at 100%
I once had my cat cancel a render after 5 hours when she decided to lie on the keyboard. Anybody want to buy a black furry mousepad?

A video file that V5 can open but V8 can't???
I can't open the D90 clips in Vegas 8c either. They play in WMP and I can open them in Edius, but not Vegas. I'm using XP though, not Vista, wonder if that is important? Richard

BT Video Storage and Use? NAS Buffalo?
Hi Grazie, how are you mate? My previous storage was a WD box with 2 mirrored HDDs inside, but although it came wih a GB Ethernet connection, the access speed was as slow as a very slow thing and I could not live with it for very long. The access speed problem was due to the internal controller chip design which could not support faster data transfer. So GB Ethernet in the spec does not tell the whole story. Anyway, after some research, I recently bought a Netgear NV+ NAS with 4 hard drives in a sort of RAID5 config, and it is working fine for me. Bob is right as usual though, you do need to think through your backup/storage/archival strategy. I have already filled 48% of my NAS and at this rate will probably need to get another one before the end of the year. Richard

How Do I set "Properties" settings for all clips?

That would set the project to match the file properties OK. But the problem here is that Vegas is not recognising the file properties correctly. This is very common if you do not capture the clips with Vegas When you bring them in, they are marked as interlaced instead of progressive, or 4:3 instead of 16:9 (or both). it is tedious to get Vegas to change all the clip properties to the correct settings, because you can only change one clip at a time. It would be nice if you could select many clips and change the properties in one operation. Richard

HDV users: please read
I tried recently to edit HDV clips from a Canon XH-A1 captured with HDVSplit. When I put 50+ clips on the timeline and pressed play (no filters added) Vegas just crashed. With the new dll file, I repeated the same exercise with the same clips. This time the clips loaded much faster to the timeline and playback worked flawlessly. The whole system justs seems more responsive too, in fact, just like it should be. So, haven't tried a full project workflow yet, but this is definitely on the right lines. Thank you Sony. HDV users: please read
I'm using Edius for nearly all my HDV editing nowadays, due to Vegas stability problems I've encountered. I'd love to come back to Vegas and am happy to help test out a possible fix. Richard

How many m2t clips should be allowed in a project?
"The other thing that SEEMS to work (so far) is capture with HDVsplit without scene detection or preview screen, and then use HDVsplit's option to scene split AFTER capture." Haven't tried that before, will give it a go. Thanks for the tip. Richard

Vegas incompatibility with Canon HD cameras
HDVSplit scene detection works correctly, but Vegas tends to split in the wrong place, a couple of frames into the following clip. Vegas also puts silence near the end of each audio clip where there should be audio. Quite easy to trim away all the crap, but also tedious.

Vegas incompatibility with Canon HD cameras
If you capture as one big file, instead of using scene detection, it works fine in Vegas. Of course you then have the hassle of chopping up the big file into clips which if you look on the positive side, means that you will actually have to watch the footage befire editing it. :)
