Release VEGAS Pro 365 - General Discussion
"I can't find details of that offering on the web (even via here and here), but that sounds like a remarkably generous model. " Perhaps Xara has changed their model since then as I have moved onto Wordpress. But recently I needed to open a Xara Web Designer project to retrieve some information and I was able to download the version up to the point when my one year subscription expired. There are a number of companies that use this type of subscription model. One year of updates than no more after expiration but you get to continue to use the product frozen at that point. If you want to continue with updates you have to buy another years subscription. If Adobe had used that reasonable model I would have continued with them. On another note... happy to hear Gary say there is an AMD update coming as I find Vegas 15 and my Radeon RX 480 card very problematic. When I initially bought the card it was recommended as one of the most stable now 75% of my render attempts hard crash Vegas immediately and preview to secondary monitor has been a real mess. I have the same issue with my Vegas 15 and RX480 card, and I also bought the card because it was recommended at the time. I am looking forward to the next update, and hopefully a solution. I find that if I simply move my mouse too fast as I have always done with Vegas in the past, it will cause the project to hang up and/or crash. I am a long time user since V4 and never had this happen before.

POLL - Should MAGIX change the name?
I agree with the OP as well. While i love Vegas the editing software, and have been using it since V4, I have never understood why they named it Vegas. There are so many better names they could have chosen. i have always been a bit embarrassed to to tell people i edit with "Vegas". Just doesn't sound like a professional editing software name. This great editing software deserves better.

Hey Magix! Add this to Vegas MX:
"A decent titler package with built in anti aliasing" "Better handling of .mov files, no crashing" I agree! A decent titler package so that we don't need to depend on plug-ins. Some decent built-in special effects would also be nice, again so that we don't have to depend on third party plug-ins (sorry VASST, I do like your products)..And please make Vegas recognize, and work as well with, mov files as well as it does with other files.

I agree about hoping that the best bits of the one that's dropped make it into the one that's kept. I am a longtime Vegas Pro user. I had never even heard of Video Pro X before, but after viewing the Video Pro X tutorial video on their website, I have to say that I kind of liked the interface. If they could keep the best features of Vegas Pro, like it's audio capabilities that go all the way back to the Sonic Foundry days, and combine it with some of VPX's strong points, this could be a win-win for all of us. Let's face it, there are some aspects of Vegas Pro - like it's titling capabilities - that are sub-par, cumbersome, and have been since Day 1. We've had to doll out more cash to companies like New Blue to make up for it's inadequacies, even with regard to special effects. And, as used to it as we all are, the interface is beginning to look a little dated. So, I for one am excited about better days to come - I hope. I'll probably continue to use DVD Architect, but it sure would be nice to have a decent authoring program as part of the new editing package too,

I think that I have narrowed down the problem. It occurs with files that are shot in 50M YUV422 HD mode. There doesn't appear to be any problem dropping other files shot with the camera, whether Quicktime or AVCHD, 4K or HD, directly into the Vegas Pro 13 timeline. The good news is that Catalyst Browse, a free program, will transcode the footage. But I'm not sure if the 422 color space is retained.

I downloaded Catalyst Suite, which comes with Catalyst Prepare, and I am hoping that this will make my life easier. It's been a while since I have been on this forum. I 'll look through the posts here to see what others say about this software. I see now that there is a Catalyst Edit, too. Is this the new successor to Vegas? If so, then it should have a lot of the functionality of Vegas as I feel that Vegas Pro is still the most intuitive editing software out there.

Vegas Pro 13 on HP ProBook
Finally got it to work. I went back in to AMD Catalyst Control Center again, and set everything to Maximum Performance (including on battery power), unchecked "Power Saving" for everything, and that did the trick. Thanks everyone! I hope that Sony continues Vegas Pro. I have been using it since version 4, and have always received good advice from the great people in the Vegas community.

Thanks all. I do have the power setting set for maximum performance. As far as setting Vegas with GPU acceleration off, I would do this if I could just get past the boot up screen, to the project screen. I will try BIOS settings.

Vegas Pro 13 on HP ProBook
Yes, I have the latest AMD drivers and Catalyst software. It is not a new computer, it's a 2012 model. It is running Windows 10 with all of the latest updates. I originally had Vegas Pro 12 on this laptop (with Windows 7) and it worked fine. I wiped the drive when installing Windows 10, and now cannot get either Vegas Pro 12 or 13 to work. .

DVD Architect 6.0 won't play nice with Windows 10.
Thanks, Steve. I actually upgraded to Win 10 on another computer yesterday, and that computer has no problem with DVD Architect 6.0. So it must be a localized problem. I'll continue to run 5.2 on that computer. I am not really sure what the differences there are between 5.2 and 6.0 anyway. You mentioned 3D BluRays - I won't be making any of them anytime soon!

DV Widescreen in Pro 5.0
It is correct now - letterboxed on 4:3, and full on 16:9. Initially, I was seeing letterboxed on the 16:9. My error. Jim

I have figured it out. After playing the DVD in a third player, it iturns out that it is actually the correct aspect ratio. I'll have to change the settings on the other two players to not show the letterboxing. Thanks.
