Missing fonts
Ok, now opening the veg as a notepad is working for me. I think I sorted it... I'm on vacation with bad internet and hadn't had a beer yet. Or I'm just slow. Anyways, if you need to make fun of someone have at it!

Opening Project Hang
Weeeelllllll.....I've just tested a problem project that hangs 13 and 14 on the demo of 15 and.... It works! Either they have specifically addressed this problem or by rebuilding something they have eliminated the bug. No idea, just starting playing, but will dig up some other problem files and see what happens. kairosmatt

Opening Project Hang
Newest version of Vegas 14 (build 270) with a fresh install and it carries the same problem from a Vegas 13 project. The same work around also works with 14, and once you go through the steps of rerendering a single file (if you can find it!) Vegas 14 opens it no problem.

VEGAS Pro 15 release date
Thanks Nick, I haven't posted here in years, but have been fairly regularly checking in. I have seen that thread and tried several solutions, including waiting (as OndrejPopp) suggests. Occasionally waiting will actually work, but not always. It is often just a random file (today it was a wave file from an SCS loop bundle) that for whatever reason if you can isolate and re render and replace and it will fix it. By the way that original file is alive and well in several other projects without incident, and its not always a wav that does it! I think I started a thread about this years ago, and I know other people have this issue. I send in error reports a lot of the time, although recently I haven't. Maybe I lost heart on Vegas, but I guess I'm just hoping with new management this issue will be resolved! kairosmatt

VEGAS Pro 15 release date
Any news on fixing that terrible crash when you're opening a project and its just hangs when the processor hits 25% in task manager (and stays there indefinitely)? Still happens in 14. Will instantly upgrade to 15 if this is fixed.

Paste Event Attributes bug - VP13 & VP12 - Fixed in VP14
Unless I missed something (quite possible) neither one crashes my laptop (Win7, Lenevo T420s with itinel i7, 16 gigs ram) (vegas 13.0 build 373) In the first case the FX box does show the wrong preset. In the Second case after pasting the preset sliders are in the wrong default position. However, when I get to step 10 (move the sliders) the preset display fixes itself, and the sliders all effect the images. Nothing crashing here (from this anyways). kairosmatt

How to change how often timeline jumps ahead
I'd actually like to set it so it doesn't jump ahead at all, or maybe just jumps to the courser once playback has paused. I find it the timeline update distracts me from the video. I may try the scroll thing but I don't what to take a performance/framerate hit. kairosmatt

Trimmed "smart rendered" video larger than source
Nope I was wrong! I just did some tests smart rendering raylight and there are some very slight differences, but nothing like what I remember. I smart rendered different parts together and tried switching around the file so it was the same length but in a different order, and its still within a few hundred bytes. Raylight is intraframe, so there should be no issues with cutting in the middle of a long GOP. I will have to look in my archives, I had some very large files that I had divided into usable regions and smart rendered and remembering being surprised that the folder with the smaller clips was larger than the full files. Its ispossible that I had done that with a different version of Vegas but unfortunately I won't be able to tell. kairosmatt

I've never done any scientific testing, but I've had the same experience with smart rendering AVIs (specifically cineform and raylight). Could audio be significantly different enough to warrant the size difference??? kairosmatt

Media Manager: Phase One Media Pro
Thanks Joran for that link. Playing with it a little now, and it does support AVCHD files and with thumbnails, so that's great. And its a better price! It doesn't give me thumbnails on AVIs but it does import them and let me open them in Windows Media Player. Unfortunately I won't have time to put this through its paces before the end of the year, but I like what I'm seeing so far. Cheers kairosmatt

Media Manager: Phase One Media Pro
Just realized that Media Pro does not work with AVCHD files which makes it useless for half my library. There do seem to be work arounds, but I'm already doing work arounds to manage all my media. If I'm going to pay $200, I don't want to work around it! kairosmatt

Media Manager: Phase One Media Pro
Didn't know about Lightroom. Of course its much more expensive but you get so much more with it. Even though its a one shot purchase, I'm a little reluctant to continue learning Adobe products right now. The CC just wasn't for me. I definitely think I need it, and am liking the Media Pro so far. A bit expensive, but its xmas coming up...! I may try getting VeeHive to work again as well. kairosmatt

Alternatives to Vegas?
A great thread, and here are my thoughts: 1. I'm glad I'm not the only one still using, making a living from, and not considering upgrading from Vegas 8. It is solid, and aside from 1080 60p and BCC not working, a great piece of software, day in and out. 2. I recently participated in a huge project, that involved a lot of post on Edius. I only cataloged stuff that I shot (100 hours or so). My experience with Edius is that it is also prone to crashing on large projects, and that is without heavy editing but only media management. I believe it is more stable than later Vegas versions, but everything has its limits! 3. As far as alternatives to Vegas, I like both PPro and Avid above Edius. Just my 2 cents. kairosmatt

My Latest Experiments NB ColorFast . . .
Thanks for posting this Grazie, inadvertently its given me stuff to think about- I have been working hard to bring out the shadows in lots of my shots, because I feel that there are details there that I want to see (like your crows on the bench that you can't see w/o colorfast on). But overall, I actually preferred your non-CF shots-crows be damned! It makes me want to go back and look at some of the shots I've 'fixed' with new eyes. kairosmatt

Win7 Jump Lists

P2 workaround
Raylight AVIs. Its 150 bucks and an extra step, but I like having self contained AVIs that don't have any pulldown or anything like that. kairosmatt

Converting P2 footage for Sony Vegas
Can you find out more about the footage-what format and framerate and pulldown? If the footage is DVCProHD let's hope it was shot with advanced pulldown (24PA) in the menus. All 1080 is in a 60i stream with DVCPro. Raylight will automatically remove the advanced pulldown if you convert to self contained Raylight AVIs with Raymaker. If you have the codec properly installed you can also drag and drop straight on the Vegas timeline and Vegas will recognize and remove the pulldown as well. If its regular 24p (not advanced) I don't think Raymaker will remove those extra frames. But Vegas might recognize it if you drag it on the timeline. Its too late now but its always recommended to use advanced pulldown with Raylight. I have not experience with AVC-I, but I believe that shoots 1080 24p natively? kairosmatt
