Can't Open Up Project File. Corrupt. HELP PLEASE
I think you're out of luck. Opening this file in Notepad and comparing with good Vegas12 project files, you're missing a large chunk at the head of the file that contains file paths, project name, etc. .veg files opened in a text editor contain a lot of nonsense characters, as you would expect, but there is a lot of readable info there as well. Your plugins and the usual Sony footer info are all there, but there's no way to know how much of the data at the head of your file has been lost.

Edit from the SD card?
The video splits have duplicated frames, correct? That is more easily fixed than the audio. Overlap the two clips until you have a frame match, ungroup the video/audio on both clips and trim one of the video clips to the edge of the other. Then deal with the real problem. Or better yet, go to Wal-Mart, get an $11 32 GB flash drive, format it to NTFS and import the file correctly to it.

Edit from the SD card?
My 2 cents... I personally have found no way to eliminate the audio gap in split files on the timeline other than editing the audio track and applying a time stretch to cover the gap if you're lucky enough to have the file not split in the middle of a word. If you want it to be right, you really need to import with either your camera software or Vegas' Device Manager. If your drives are truly "full" i.e. no swap space that can be temporarily reduced, no space for drive housekeeping (20% used to be the recommendation) and no space for backing up your data, I think you're courting disaster on several fronts.

Vegas 11 32bit crash on opening new Windows window
I would suggest looking at your log files in Event Viewer ( i think it's named the same in Windows 7 - I'm on an XP station at the moment) Check out the application and System logs to see what was happening at the time of the crashes. It may give you some clues as to the cause.

SURVEY: Would you upgrade to VP14 if...
I plan to purchase the next upgrade regardless of the list of improvements. I am surprised that the "levels" issue hasn't been brought up - although I haven't been able to get through all the new threads, so perhaps it has. I like the current method, but perhaps others would like the option for video levels to be handled in the background as in most other NLEs. I also wonder if a dedicated 10-bit editing mode would offer better performance than the current 32 bit floating point mode. If so, I would like to see that option added.

In case you need it,,, great data recovery tool
From my limited understanding, WoW64 is a subsystem that allows 32 bit programs to run in a 64 bit environment. I don't know if the "personal" or "home" versions of current Windows have it, since I've never owned them, but the Professional 64 bit versions do. I downloaded the other Windows version on the page and it worked like a charm.

Best AVI codec resembling Blackmagic or Cineform
Performance-wise, Magic YUV has been the best lossless codec for me. Also, Cineform (not lossless) and Lagarith have both given me occasional black frames when dozens of their files were used in a project. I've had up to a hundred Magic YUV files in projects and never had a rendering issue.

I haven't looked at Smoke in a decade, but at that time it was a perfect model of Autodesk's mentality of "make the interface difficult enough to justify the price."

Sharpen detail by averaging successive frames
There is an image enhancement technology that will do what you're looking for - and as with all enhancement techniques, it has limitations. Google "super resolution image enhancement" and you'll find examples of what can be accomplished and its limitations. This appears to be not a simple blending of frames, but adding only "new" data from surrounding frames to the base frame to increase detail not present in a single frame. I don't think you're going to get what you're looking for by staying within Vegas.

audio peaking after inserting onto timeline
Was your audio file 16 bit or 24 bit? Are you using a recent version of Vegas? I recall seeing this in an ancient version with some 24 bit files - maybe aiff but can't remember. Sound Forge would play back expected levels but Vegas would raise the levels by 6db.

OT: Need mixer/amp/Mics/speakers
Not sure where you're located but I'd check out DJ rental houses. Quick online search turned up several with SM58s for $14-15 day and powered speakers (i.e. Mackie or JBL EON) in the $50 range. If you have a local rental house you should be able to negotiate a 3 day rate that would be in your ballpark.

From the "view" menu, open "Edit Details" and change the options to show: "selected events" and "all fields." Select the event you want info about.

Rendering HD for Facebook using 'Pogressive D/L'
AFAIK, the "progressive download" option simply moves the moov atom (which contains indexing and other info about the file) to the beginning of the file so it can be played before the entire file is downloaded. I haven't heard of any artifacts or visual differences introduced by doing this (perhaps others have better info on that). Perhaps with the moov atom at the head of the file, processing of the file may be able to start before the upload is complete, which would mean your file may be visible on Facebook a bit sooner than otherwise.

strong banding in fade (generated media )
With the vignette you're using over the footage, I don't see a way to eliminate the banding when rendering to an 8 bit format. The vignette plus the fade to black is producing more and more subtle gradations during the fade that can't be reproduced with 8 bits. If there are still NLEs or encoders that allow for dithering the output you may reduce it some, but I think the 8 bit delivery format is the issue.

C Drive re-install
If you have a lot of bad sectors Macrium Reflect will fail on the clone also. If it doesn't work for your drive, google DDRescue. It's a bootable Linux app that I used a couple years back to clone a drive that was quite near death that Macrium couldn't handle. Of course it can't recover the data from bad sectors, but will give you a clone - errors and all - that will allow you to recover as much data as you can. It can also be run multiple times on a bad file and will "fill in" its first pass with as much new data as can be obtained.

Are there any pro editors still using Vegas?
I do this for a living (so I think I'm a pro) and chose Vegas because its speed of workflow allows me to make more per hour. I've had to do some projects lately for a facility that uses Premier Pro CC and wanted me to edit on site. I used it on both PC and Mac platforms and IMHO its workflow is still as flaky as ever. Everything from transitions to masking to titling are WAY behind Vegas' implementations. I find the color correction tools take much longer to achieve what I can quickly in Vegas (Adobe's interface for Curves in particular has always annoyed me). A surprise to me was that it was a bit more stable on PC than on Mac. Average 3 crashes a day on Mac, and I could consistently crash it by cancelling a render. Get the recommended hardware for the version of Vegas you're using and I don't think you're going to beat it for efficiency.

First cut vs Final cut (Studycase StarWars TFW)
+1 ushere In my last documentary an editor gave me a "cut" of 3 -1/2 hrs. I edited the release version to 1:20. It depends so much on the amount of scripting vs. pure documentary footage, as in ushere's 15 hours of interviews. I would assume that for scripted movies such as SW, the "director's cut" to release length ratio is much lower.

1080 4:2:0 convert to 720 4:2:2 format
I also (think) I'm seeing more detail in the red gradient on the petals. I'm not working with 4K yet, but followed the posts about how downconversion to 1080 can lift 4:2:0 color to 4:2:2. I haven't looked into the math behind it, but could the 1080 to 720 downconvert give SOME sort of a similar increase in color resolution, even if its not properly 4:2:2?
