So OT: A Grammar Question
I would go with singular, but the verbal reference is to "loss", not "conversion". If the sentence is in context of referring to multiple losses from a single conversion, then it would be plural. If during the conversion 12 widgets were lost, then I would use singular. If 12 widgets were lost, plus a loss of time, plus a loss of money, it could be correct to use plural.

Can't get Vegas to render in progressive...?
I haven't found a way, but I haven't tried too hard because when I get burned once, I don't trust the checkbox anymore. Some of the render templates may work fine, but MC AVC/AAC and Quicktime have both burned me by rendering to incorrect frame rates (usually half, if the fps matches the project AND the checkbox is checked). I recommend learning to love MediaInfo and use it liberally for matching project settings to your footage (if you don't have VP11 or newer) and checking renders.

Can't get Vegas to render in progressive...?
It's not interlacing, but frame blending. You have three ghosted images in your example, not two. Two things to check - first uncheck "allow source to adjust frame rate" in your render template. In many templates, I've found that will reduce the render to 1/2 the intended frame rate. Second, did you begin your timeline with Quantize to Frames turned on in the Options menu? If not, you will always get ghosted frames if resampling is not disabled in the clip properties. If Quantize to Frames is off, you will have to turn it on, and then slightly move each of your clips on the timeline to allow them to snap to frame boundaries. Check those and let us know. Edit - I've only worked with GoPro footage at 60i (actually 29.97) so I could be mistaken her, but I would also suggest you check your footage with Media Info to see the precise frame rate. I would be surprised if it's not a fractional number, i.e. 23.976, 29.97, etc. rather than an exact 48 fps. This would only explain your results if combined with one of the above issues unless your clip is VERY long, but even a fractional fps difference will cause ghosting after a few minutes if resampling is on.

correcting overdetailed / sharpened footage
You may also try a pass through Neat Video with sharpening turned off. The image softening you get from NR using a noise profile may help, and the temporal noise reduction will help with the sharpened camera noise. And although I am not proficient with Convolution Kernel (even explaining it) you may try starting with the blur preset and playing with the matrix. I always use it for sharpening now, rather than Sharpen or Unsharp Mask and the results seem better to me. It may be able to undo a portion of the sharpening damage. A quick test with a over-sharpened low-res photo, followed by a Gaussian Blur with only green channel checked (very low setting - I used .0016 for both horizontal and vertical) put me back very close to where I started.

OT: Name That Tune
Are you certain this isn't an "original" score? At least in the uploaded video, the sounds used for the orchestral sections sound like fairly average GM samples. I hear motifs that sound a bit like Gershwin, but much too simplistic for his style of arrangements.

Vegas Pro 12 won't import .MOV files
Since moving to Win 7 several years ago I've gotten into the habit of always disabling UAC and installing programs as "Administrator." There are some aspects of your problem that seem possibly related to user account permissions, but others are puzzling. By any chance, are your .mov files stored on a drive that contains a space in its volume name? i.e. "New Volume"? There are problems with QT rendering to an external volume with a space in its name (as in - it won't), and perhaps there are some unknown read issues as well.

Generated text not displaying
Try copying a working title clip from another project into yours and see if that can be modified. And this may seem obvious, but check that your compositing mode is set to Source Alpha on the track that you're adding text generators to.

A certain type of color correction in Pro 13...
Color Curves is the most powerful correction tool in Vegas, IMHO. It's hard to wrap your head around at first. Consider this: The interface is a graph. X axis is input, Y axis is output. The starting-point diagonal line is input=output. My style is to manipulate the master RGB curve to get the luminance levels and gamma curve I like, then open up the individual channel controls to fine-tune the color look you want. I generally use Vegas' color corrector when I need a quick white-balance fix. Not for much else.

Difference between 24p and 25p
"I'm not sure what you mean by 'cinema package delivery', does that mean if you actually want to make a movie that is meant for actual cinema playback?" Yes, Digital Cinema Package is a set of specs for digital projection and the primary standard is 24p (a few higher frame rates are allowed) For your second question, it's a matter of 24fps being seen as the standard "minimum" frame rate for smooth viewing and so you have the ability to use higher sync camera frame rates (as opposed to overcrank settings in some cameras where you can shoot 60 fps and have the header flag it as 24 or 30 for playback). For years it's been typical to simply alter the speed of PAL by -1 fps (along with the audio) to move to cinema projection, or to alter film footage by +1 fps for PAL broadcast. If you want cleanest slo mo, disabling resampling is generally the way to go - and yes, then the math is important if you don't want dropped frames. If you can live with Vegas' resampling, then the math doesn't matter as much. Edit: I should add that if you plan on maintaining PAL standards through delivery, a 25fps project would probably make your life MUCH easier than editing at 24fps. You've already worked out the math for slo mo use of your other camera speeds.

Difference between 24p and 25p
It's more about delivery than "cinematic" look. If you're in PAL lands, 25fps will match with broadcast frame rate. If you're in NTSC lands, 30fps will convert most easily to broadcast standards. 24fps for a specific "look", to use higher frame rates for slomo, or for cinema package delivery. If you're not delivering for broadcast or DVD/BD, it's your preference - although not many in NTSC territories shoot 25 fps.

problems with lagarith in VP12
Yeah, since I hadn't seen any posts of others with this problem, I'm sure it's my config. That's the same Lagarith version I'm using and it still works fine in other versions of Vegas as well as After Effects. I've had an earlier unstable build of VP12 installed since it came out and just installed the latest build over it when this job came in. Probably should have uninstalled clean before upgrading. I'll give that a shot when I get this job out.

Thanks, musicvid10. Magic YUV is a fine intermediate for my use, and I've had UT sitting in my downloads for 2 years without installing, so I'll try that too. It just boils down to old habits for me. I'll just proceed with what works. I too often get derailed by trying to figure out "why" something doesn't work instead of moving forward with what does. But it SHOULD work... darn it.

"However, I just realized that the issue is coming from the source footage?" Does the clip play back properly in Quicktime player? If not, then the clip may be the problem. If it does play properly, don't jump to conclusions that the footage is the entire problem. You haven't provided any information about the codec used (Quicktime is a wrapper for various codecs) frame rate, if the project properties match the footage, if Quantize to Frames is enabled, etc., etc. For a basic test, start a new project. Search this forum (or read the help file) to learn how to match the project settings to a clip, then make sure Quantize to Frames is enabled in the new project BEFORE you add the clip to it. Quantize to Frames is the first selection in the "Options" dropdown on the main menu. Then add your clip to the timeline, then attempt to render it. Then let's hear about the results. If it renders correctly, we'll see if we can help you make it work in your current project.

Flickering Distorted Video - Please Help!
I don't want to sound like a Microsoft phone service call, but... try restarting your computer. I've had this happen on a few occasions and that was the simple solution for me. I came to believe that there was a frame being held in GPU memory that kept being cyclically introduced into the render, and restarting cleared it. I also saw several warnings related to GPU in Windows Event Logs when this occurred. If this doesn't work, please offer more info on your source footage, project settings and render settings.

Does the problem scene have a different frame rate or field structure (progressive vs. interlaced) than the rest of the project? Also, in your main project, do you have "quantize to frames" set? If that scene isn't beginning on a project frame boundary it could explain why it looks good when rendered from a solo project.

Closed Caption Crashing
That would be my first suggestion. The CC work I do is all SD, so I work with a single uncompressed avi source and render to uncompressed avi to include the line 21 information. If the complexity of the project is what's giving you problems, you can also try setting a bunch of blank command markers then open View>Edit Details and select command markers. You can then input your text for multiple lines within that window.

VP10e - Only Blue Screen in Vid Cap - Fix = ?
If that doesn't work for you, do you have access to Vegas 8? On both of my Win7/64 systems, I haven't been able to find a combination of Firewire boards or drivers that will work with VidCap in any version later than 8. Vegas 8 capture seems to work with about any configuration I've tried. I don't doubt the problem is somewhere in my configuration, but I am able to use other capture programs with the current board/driver config (HDV split and capture to Adobe products) but only Vegas 8, nothing newer.

Next bug-fix build has a price tag?
@wwjd, Did you set up a 4K timeline to import your file? The reason I ask is I don't think your new NLE automatically creates proxies. Lots of threads on Adobe forum asking how TO create them. But one suggestion in their RED workflow has been to edit 4K video in a 1080 timeline. The video will scale to the timeline size and give the appearance of full -res while only reading 1/4 of the information. From my reading, it seems in your NLE's case, its not like switching from best/full to preview or scaling in the manner our editor does, but simply disregarding most of the pixels and pretending the clip is just full res 1080. I will admit the timeline performance of that editor has really impressed me the last few versions, but working with it... I don't have enough hair left to learn its workflow.
