No Vegas 16 after paying for 15 and offer for free upgrade
Finally, after sending the issue to sales support I received an e-mail from them with the serial number. Now I can go on to gripe about bugs and features! :) Thanks for the help provided here. Resolved.

No Vegas 16 after paying for 15 and offer for free upgrade

I have given my info (including order number) via Chat. They gave me a link to Magix support to e-mail them. I then gave the same info there (so that is twice). I got the message: "Thank you for sending your request to MAGIX. A confirmation email should have already been sent to you." However, I did not even get that "confirmation" e-mail message. I fear that all Magix e-mails since early August are blocked. They are not in my Spam folder. We will see if I get any other e-mail response. I had the same problem getting the serial number of Vegas Pro 16 trial; no response until I created another account with a different e-mail. My current Magix account e-mail is a perfectly legitimate "edu" e-mail that has no problems with any other sending source that I know of. More: I signed in with another e-mail account (gmail). Sent the same issue to sales support. This time I did receive confirmation that it was received (automated and useless). This is more evidence that my main e-mail address registered to Magix is blocking Magix e-mails - it does not work for receiving the serial number for the trial version of 16 nor for receiving a confirmation from my request to the sales team.

YIxxxxxx.MP4 ? Xiaomi Yi 4K+ Action Cam? Yes. Thanks. Others have reported audio issues for sure, but I do not know what cameras they were using.

Even worse: If I then disable the So4 Compound Reader for AVC/M2TS and try to restart a saved project which contains this file VP15 crashes at startup and it would even crash then if I try to start an empty new project. I need to reset Vegas Pro before it works again. This did not happen to me. No crashes. After disabling So4, I can load project files fine, including video files that did not work properly in 15 before disabling and projects that include video files from other cameras. I do not need to reset Vegas Pro, and I do not need to rewrap all my videos. Of course, I cannot take advantage of any of the new features supposed to be offered by So4.

There is a fix for this (see a post under video, about avc problems), which entails disabling the new avc encoder in 15 that replaced the old one in 14. This new encoder is responsible for many of the new features we paid for. Turns out it also results in a major reduction in functionality. Disabling it gets us back to 14!

Thank you Mr. Hope. This new "feature" in fact resulted in no audio at all from H264 video clips that played fine on the timeline in Vegas Pro 14. I find it incredible that this was not checked before release, that a bug report was not sent out after release, and that this was not fixed immediately (since it is obviously known) in a new build. I wasted many hours trying to fix this. It is bad enough that there is a scant number of new features in 15 over 14, but to have a major bug due to one of the major ones is more than incompetence. I am going to post my experience in all the forums I contribute to. Magix needs to step up. They are going to lose many users with this kind of greed (high price for very little advances), lack of support, and plain stupidity.

Bit rate choices for rendering in XAVC S
"markr041, have you looked at what is happening during 'smart-render' Xavc-S - 60 from camera to timeline - edits made, then render to Xavc-S - 100 , do you find that you are smart rendering in VegasPro13? or render to Xavc - is it smart rendering?" Vegas Pro 13, unfortunately, definitely does not smart render XAVC S long-GOP 4K files. There is smart rendering of some 4K XAVC variants (maybe intra), but not the 4K video from the AX100.

I agree with your speculation. However, with a 60Mbps or 80 Mbps input video (AX100 and GH4), there is little point to rendering at 120 Mbps (what I am seeing). Surely you are not arguing that having no choice of rendering bitrate is a desirable feature? File sizes for uploads matter, and the Ax100 original videos show that 60 Mbps does an excellent job. Increasing files sizes by 100% over the originals (same exact codec for the Sony AX!00) is not efficient from a quality/size perspective.

XAVC S (long-GOP) 4K is offered as a delivery codec in Vegas Pro. XAVC S 4K is 60 Mbps in the AX100 Sony camera. It is defaulted to 100+ Mbps in Vegas Pro. That's seems completely arbitrary. So, as I surmised and is confirmed, there is no bit-rate choice in Vegas Pro for XAVC S and it is larger than the standard XAVC S used in the AX100. That is a shortcoming of the program, especially given that the two most popular sources of 4K video have bitrates (and similar 8-bit, long-GOP codecs) that are less than 80 Mbps. These are the Panasonic GH4 and the Sony AX100.

Your answer is unhelpful, and also ignorant of both existing 4K cameras (e.g., the Sony AX100 and the Panasonic GH4) and the standards for XAVC S 4K. I have no interest in 1080. I was discussing XAVC S, not XAVC. I want to output XAVC S 4K long GOP (same as the Sony AX100 puts out). In the current version of Sony Vegas Pro, there is no choice of bitrate in the rendering template for long-GOP, XAVC S 4K. Get it? XAVC S 60Mbps long GOP is the Sony AX100 standard (8-bit 4:2:0). I want that as a rendering choice. Right now, the bitrate is over 100 Mbps. The Sony camera XAVC S bitrate is 60 Mbps. So 100Mbps is not a "standard."
