Can I use mp4 and mov in the same project
I tried John's suggestion for using the VideoReDo application. Using the limited free trial version I used the QuickStream Fix tool on a sample Samsung HDV clip and it solved the audio problems. I'm not sure what it did to fix the issue or if I incurred any loss in the process but I'm just happy I have footage I can now use. Thank you John! Changes that I see comparing the before and after file properties: BEFORE: 14.985 fps interlaced, 1920x1080x12, AVC Type: Sony AVC AFTER: 29.970 fps, 1920x1080x24, H.264 (what is the x24 anyway?) Type: QuickTime Using Vegas Pro 9.0e (Build 1147)

In answer to John's question- in Vegas I right clicked on each file and selected properties. straight copy and paste: Streams Video: 00:00:11.745, 14.985 fps interlaced, 1920x1080x12, AVC Audio: 00:00:12.011, 48,000 Hz, Stereo, AAC Name: HDV_0012.MP4 Type: Sony AVC My most immediate problem is not knowing if the MP4 files will even be usable with the audio problem that is happening in Vegas. missing codec maybe? I'm stuck. Also why is one camera wide screen and the other not? Both say 1920x1080x12 and x24 ?

O/T Capture Problem
Bob- That is some good Firewire info, thanks for that. I'm beginning to think I have a damaged firewire output on the camera itself. Grazie- my laptop is 4<>4 pin my PC has both 6 AND 4 pin connectors. Both connectors fail to work though. This vidcam is the only playback I have for my substantial Digital8 tape library. I could always capture on my laptop and then move the files over to my desktop. I'm also on the lookout now for a used Digital8 vidcam. Its really too bad because I'd rather be putting money towards a more current camera .

Rory- It could well be the firewire connector on the cam but it's strange that it works fine with the laptop. Grazie- In the past DV Scene detect and DV control have had no bearing on my captures, works either way. Or at least used to work. And again the problem also exists even using Windows Movie Maker to capture. Thanks to all of you who have chimed in so far, I'm open for more suggestions.

sorry I was unclear. I said 'Windows Desktop" to indicate type of machine and the operating system. Desktop as opposed to laptop.

OT: Firewire device control problems
Network connections showed a 1394 connection but I doubt it was an active part of any network. I did uninstall the TCP/IP and sharing components just the same though. Still no resolution to the original problem though. Did I miss anything in network connection setting or config?

I can reproduce the problem using two different cables. I did check the tape overwrite protect tab (off) but I can't see where that would be relevant. This is an odd problem but I know we have a ton of collective brain power on this board.

OT - R200 RIP - Any Suggestions?
I recently had to retire my Epson Stylus Photo R300 printer after several years of service. In its place I purchased an HP Photosmart D7560 from Newegg.com for $79.99. I've had the new printer for about 6 weeks now and I am very satisfied with it. Surprisingly my leftover Epson printer paper gives great results in the HP printer. One thing I kept reading was that you do NOT want to install the software on the HP installation disk. Mega-bloatware. I just went with the bare bones drivers direct from the HP site and I've been very happy. Mark

John, I am curious, these disks look like they have a large area in the center that can't be printed on. Although I like the Riteks I have printed on in the past, I don't like having a 1.5 inch hole in my disk graphic. How large is the non-printable area in the center? Mark
