need a 4-channel audio file (48k, 24b)
thx. now that i have that part figured out, i'm stuck on a specific part of the process. i am trying to create a 4-channel audio mix that is comprised of two completed stereo mixes that sound right when layered on top of each other (one track is voice, the other is music). and i thought the 4 channel mix would sound exactly the same if i assigned the first stereo track to Bus A, and the other stereo track # to Bus B, which i did. but the resulting file appears to be this: the first two tracks are two centered mono mixes of the music on top of one other, and the next two tracks are two mono mixes of the voice. i am obviously missing a step or two at least. please advise and thanks in advance for your help.

limiter function on audio...
fars, i am convinced you are absolutely correct. but how do i approach a solution to my dilemma? my ears are quite good. i was doing sound recording long before anything video. i only say that to say this: i don't hear a problem with these files, but i see the peaks. but obviously, i can't turn in audio with peak violations. i hate to adjust volume after i have a good mix. it, in my experience, takes too much of the punch out of the mix. what would you do?

I increased the "rate" on my timeline...
You know, I tried that, but strangely enough, it doesn't sound as clean/spot-on as the rate increase did. If I could simply record the new sound at the new rate, that would be perfect. I thought I could do just that by opening another Vegas and arming it for record, but it's not seeing the sound from the other Vegas. I'm not sure about any alternatives, but feel free to let me know. Thanks in advance.

umm, a few minutes, maybe five? i don't THINK the project is all that complex, but maybe: a lotta raw footage, but no treatments on it, and only a few fades/transitions. and i hate to say it, but what is a backup project file?

in short, no. but the longer answer is i never use nested .veg files anyway. i was just experimenting with nesting in this case to see if this particular vegas file worked at all, which it does; but only in that imported/nested/"part of a larger timeline" reality. but not as a simple vegas file that i need to open and work with specifically.

better wording, hopefully: "correct. i can import the .veg as a nested file in a separate vegas file, and i can also pull that same imported .veg file into the timeline and play it, no problem. but i need to edit this vegas file but i can't, b/c vegas consistently locks when i try to open it, as oppose to import it.

The bottom half is all black. Someone told me to uninstall my previous dxnhd codec and install the latest one. I'll try that when I get back home. I'm hoping that's the problem.

Timecode, Printing to Tape
Well I rendered a project into a DV file, and then put that pile into a timeline, and tried to print it. fwiw, I can print to my old SD Canon just fine. Everything looks as if it's printing but it never actually prints after the color bars and black. It's odd.

one other question, in case anybody out there has experienced this other problem. When I try to print to tape, in HD or SD, the result is a tape with the designated color bars, followed by several seconds of black (so far, so good); but then, nothin'...even though the video appeared to be printing to tape during the printing process? Working with the Sony HDR-HC5 on this one, too.

Anybody out there know if a Sony hdr-hc5 will allow for customized time code? It doesn't look like it does, but I'm just hoping for an alternative solution. Ultimately, I need to get my V8 timeline and a customized time code onto a BETA SP.

I still have the problem, but I'm convinced that, somehow, my last Windows update created a more major problem...maybe a virus as strange as that sounds. now, my iTunes locks up when I load it, too. So, repair shop time =)

Can't really use Process Monitor because my attempts to load Vegas freeze the entire system, except for the mouse/cursor, strangely enough. I have to reboot everytime. i.e., i have to turn off my PC. control/alt/delete, task mgr, etc., are all disabled at that point. I also noticed that the exact same problem happens with DVD Architect. They both lock up when the panel reads "initializing external monitoring". So I'm currently convinced that it's a Sony thing. But what? I haven't a clue. And I also uninstalled the last Windows Update to see what that did. No dice. And I've reinstalled Vegas several times. All my other programs work fine. This is too weird. Any other help is just as greatly appreciated.

but unfortunately, my windows restore monitoring was shut off. Thus, I cannot go back in time..only from this point forward. If there are any other possibilities out there, please let me know. I can't do anything if Vegas can't load. Thx
