Still crashing. But taking a few steps back.
My crashing woes were summarily resolved by replacing the video card with a GeForce 9800 GT. Ahhhh, happy day...

I'm outta moves. If anybody has any others, please let me know. Are there other codecs that are good subs for Cineform HDV. i.e., that will play smoothly enough to reasonably edit in Vegas?

Hey, blink. On my machine those dll's are inside of an m2tsplug.cab, but when I double-click it to get to the dll's, CFF simply loads the .cab file, instead of behaving like a folder (which I presume is what I need it to do).

anybody else still using connecthd?
I can output an uncompressed file and an NTSC-DV file. No crashes, no problems. HDV (connecthd) is crashing. I thought the problem was the HDV. But then I just had the same problem with the Lagarith lossless codec. I now assume it's a PC problem or a software conflict or something like that, but I honestly don't have a clue.

the V8 memory-crash question again...
the settings for those .dlls? They reside in a .cab, and CFF isn't allowing access to them? Probably an ultra-fundamental question, but I'm a rookie when it comes to this kind of tinkering.

My PC runs slow after 3min in V8 timeline...
"Which disk is your media on? Which disk is your page file on?"They're both on the C drive. It's the only internal drive on this machine. "What was your preview RAM set to before dropping it to zero? " 128 So, what does Taskmanager say about the page file and memory usage? Vegas is taking up about 85% when it's running smoothly. And I think the page file said 456MB. (I honestly need to go back and check, not home right now, my bad) But when my machine began to struggle again, I did notice a marginal increase in both. Interestingly, when I shut down Vegas entirely, I did an experiment playing a DivX file with a DivX player and no other apps. And Task Mgr said DivX was taking up near 100%. I thought that was even stranger, but who knows?

My PC runs slow after 3min in V8 timeline...
Dynamic Preview RAM is at zero -- same problem. And now I see that the render times are way beyond what I'm used to. I have V8 installed on my Ath 64x2 dual core 6400. I also have V8 on my 4400. And the 4400 has neither of these issues. In fact, the 4400 renders are beating the 6400 by 75%. Anybody know where I go from here? Is this a disk doctor thing or something like that? I almost never use the 6400 to surf the Web so I'm assuming there's not a virus lurking. But frankly, I don't know what to think at this point. But, if it means anything, I edit HDV video constantly with my 6400, using my C drive (about a terabyte) and an external drive (another terabyte) and nothing else. I've edited over a hundred relatively simple music videos in the last year. I normally move the final products to another ext. drive and start the whole process over again..and again...and again. Is this potentially relevant to my problem? Help! Anybody!

Render times with graphic overlays in Vegas
The graphic is a TIF sequence (704MB, total). Also, I'm adjusting the graphic's position so that it "fits" a certain portion of the video. AMD Athlon 64 X2 Dual 4400+ 2.21 GHz, 4GB RAM This is a Cineform HDV video project. And even though I allocated more virtual memory via Windows, as you indirectly suggested, it's still crashing, but not as fast.

as you say, it renders rather quickly -- before it crashes. I'm thinking it's a RAM issue. If I can figure out a way to "allocate" more memory, or whatever, I should be okay. Thx so much

Can I render any of these formats (which my client insists on) in V8 as is? ____________________________ DVCPro HD Regular HDV (the smallest format) 8bit - Hi def ( largest Format) ____________________________ If not, what exactly are my options? Thx so much...

Why would a DVD flicker...
I hate when I do that. Anyway... It's a video that I shot and edited, and I rendered it as a progressive-scan MPEG-2 with audio included in Vegas. Then I imported the video into DVD Architect and followed the standard template. I don't know if DVDA's compressions bring in interlacing automatically or not. Or how to get rid of the interlacing if it does.
