OT: I got the Edirol PCR-80...
You are about a month behind me if you are just starting out so I'll tell you what I learned. I hope somebody will correct me if I'm wrong anywhere. If you want to play your keyboard to compose, you need some software and there starts the head bashing. Acid 5 supports softsynths so you could play into it and add loops to fill it in. I have no experience with it. If you don't have a decent soundcard you will get latency and the sound comes out the speakers a second after you play a note, which is bad. High quality softsynths (like the Sampletank) don't have the latency that GW wavetable and soundcard builtin sounds have. I bought a Chaintech 7.1 soundcard which uses the Via Envy 24 hs chipset that is used by M-audio Revolution 7.1 and another quality card I forget the name of. Chaintech is about $20. In Cubase I had a choice of Asio, Wdm or MME drivers. Asio is lowest latency and worked great. In Cakewalk Home Studio ($149.plus $50 for VST adapter) the softsynths don't play on Wdm and Asio doesn't work so I have to use MME, but there is no latency anyway. Cakewalk allows you to play the keyboard and record your music then export. It has built-in DXI softsynths. If you download Cakewalk Home Studio it has a tutorial to get you started playing midi right away.

how to achieve this
Use white text on transparent background from the media generator. Apply the cookie cutter and shrink the size to just the center letters. Apply the light rays fx. Play with the size of cookie cutter and strength of light rays along with keyframes until you match the effect.

Camera recommendation
Just make sure you don't buy a DVD or microdrive camcorder (that record in mpeg2 format) if you expect to edit your videos.

Capture Problem
This is the answer to a slightly different error message but worth checking out. "The device 'No Capture Device' could not be opened. Please make sure that it is turned on and is not being used by another application or user." The error occurs if the capture drive or folder does not exist. Go into Video Capture (To get to Video Capture, go into the File menu and select Capture Video), and into Options-->Preferences. Then click on the Disk Management tab to specify a valid capture location. Click on Add Folder to navigate to a location on your hard drive to store the captured files, and make sure that entry on the list has a checkmark on it before clicking Ok.

OT nuther XP problem driving me crazy!
OK I'm frazzled now after bumbling around MS support site. You search XP and end up at 98. One last thing was that PC won't go on standby if 3d screensaver is running and there is a patch for that. So try setting screensaver to none or at least not the 3d ones and check that out. I'm done.

Sorry, I should have said to click the "view" and "show hidden devices" in device manager. You will find a ton of new things. Computer has ACPI and another under system.

That's right (disabled). What happens if you try the "preview" on the screensaver? I have all my setting to "never" because I don't want any power management so I haven't experienced your problems.

Check for "wake on lan" or similar. If enabled it will wake up whenever there is network activity.

I haven't really used 2000 so I don't know if this applies, but transitioning from 98, I found that right-clicking the start button and properties and using windows "classic" start menu gave me more comfort than having XP go through its "I know better than you" routines. Then you can customize some settings, like expandable control panel and my favorite is to put all my "Video" apps into a folder and dragging it to the start menu and things like that. And having "My Computer" on the desktop.
