Nice surprise - Build 700/701
So far 701 seems to have fixed two of my problems: 1.) I can now have my Wacom tablet enabled, and 2.) I can now use two monitors with NewBlue Titler Pro. Both of these scenarios crashed my system consistently prior to this. Luckily I had a work-around to get by but this is so much better! Thank you!!!

Is 682/683 the last build?
I hope it's not the last build. I was told by Sony that my specific problem was a "known bug" and it will be addressed in a future patch. I'm still patiently waiting...with some hope.

My computer fan and Vegas 11
This is probably normal. If you are on Windows 7, try running "Resource Monitor" and watch the CPU processes and total usage while running Vegas 11. If it's CPU related, this should be able to tell you what's causing it. It's also possible that it's your GPU/video card fan or your power supply fan, which would most likely not be controlled by your silent mode setting. (There's also case fans in addition the CPU fan.) There's probably not much you can do about it because you really do want to keep things as cool as possible. Depending on your hardware, there are a many different utilities to monitor/control fan settings as well as case and CPU temperature.

crash when closing any Video Event FX window
@paul_w, My problem is somewhat similar to yours, where none of the compatibility modes make any difference. The only thing that helps is disabling my Wacom tablet driver, and staying off my 2nd monitor when I use the NB Titler. These two things make my Vegas 11 system very stable. (I waiting for a permanent solution...)

Pictures darker in Vegas than in Photoshop
Did you try the Export feature in Lightroom, instead of the Save As option in Photoshop? There is a setting under File Settings that lets you set the color space to sRGB. I have LR 3.6, but it should be similar in LR 4. I do this all the time with stills and they look great in Vegas. I have a Canon 7D for what it's worth and shoot in RAW. I use Lightroom to export JPEG. This also makes it really easy to re-size pics in bulk, which also saves me time in Vegas.

Laurence, this looks nice! I have an off-topic quick question: Did you use Vegas for "Clean the World Volunteers" still image slide show you did? I like the way the same images are layered in the transitions. I have tried to manually do something similar in Vegas but it seems more tedious than it should be for the effect I'm trying to get.

OT: Any software to organize video & photos?
@smhontz - I use Adobe Lightroom for photos. I have a library of about 15k photos and it works great for tagging and keeping things organized. It's also very quick, considering what I'm using it for. The latest version (4.x) is supposed to have better support for video, but I have not tried it yet. I'm still on 3.6. They have a 30 day free trial on Adobe's website. Lightroom and Apple's Aperture are probably the two leading programs for this.

Vegas 11 is CRASH HAPPY
@Suvin111 - I haven't noticed any difference with 683. My Wacom problem is still there as well as the Titler Pro while using 2 displays problem. It's stable with the Wacom driver disabled and if I make sure that the Titler Pro dialog box doesn't open on my secondary monitor. (I can open it on my primary and drag it to the other monitor without crashing...so that's what I do as a work-around.) Sony did tell me that they are working on a Wacom fix for a future release. I have not opened a support ticket on the NewBlue Titler problem yet. For me, this software was very expensive, especially since I'm only doing this as a hobby and it's for personal use. While I do have work-arounds, and I really like working with Vegas 11, I would like to believe that Sony will come through and fix these issues before moving on to 12. The thought of having to upgrade every major release scares me little!

@rmack350 - I like the way you think. It seems simple enough from a programming perspective. I'm a newbie to Vegas, but dread the thought of the "replaced media bug." My worst fear is that I wouldn't catch it right away. I wish Vegas had some type of automatic versioning built in. (Maybe it does?) I use the poor-mans way of versioning by saving with new rev numbers in my filenames on a regular basis...

Who is working with dslr footage on here?
All my footage so far is from my Canon 7D, 1080P 24fps. No problems, although I'm a newbie and still trying to get a grasp on the best camera settings, especially shutter speed for video. I'm using Vegas 11, and the biggest project I worked on so far has 12 tracks and I don't know how many files off-hand, but it's quite a few. These consist of a combination of video, audio, still frames, many transitions and generated media including Sony's new titler) Nothing with Titler Pro yet, although I played with it on it's own. It looks pretty slick and I'm looking forward to doing more with it. I do have a RAID 5 setup, using AMD's onboard RAID controller. I would say this is OK for redundancy, but not the best for speed. If you're looking for speed, look at a dedicated controller/system. If I were doing this for a living, I would definitely go that route. I have tried GPU for rendering, but i have not noticed any significant difference, possibly because I have a 6 Core 3.2Ghz CPU. (I probably need to test more...)

Vegas 11 is CRASH HAPPY
@Royce1 No luck on any of the Windows Compatibility mode for me, but my situation may be different than yours. My system is very stable as long as I disable my Wacom driver, and I don't use NewBlueFX Titler Pro. Same results with all the different compatibility modes. The Titler Pro plugin crashes instantly when I drag it down to a track. Everything else works great with the Wacom driver disabled. Here is something unrelated that I discovered while testing the different compatibility modes. If I disable my 2nd display using the ATI/AMD Catalyst panel, I can use the NewBlueFX plugin just fine. (That's a 1st for me...I finally saw the registration screen!) While Vegas is open, I can extend my display to the 2nd monitor and everything continues to work. (Go figure) At least I have a work-around for this plugin too now. It seems stable so far... BTW, I just upgraded all of my Catalyst drivers today to no avail. My ATI display adapter version is 8.961.0.0 dated 4/5/2012 if anyone is interested. Also GPU enabled/disabled has no effect.

SCS re Wacom & may contain clues to other crashes
@violet I got a similar email response yesterday. The GPU settings made no difference for me (I have ATI); it crashes very frequently with the Wacom driver enabled. It's been very stable with it disabled. Today, however, I decided to try out the Newblue 3D-Titler. That crashes instantly no matter what I do. I just drag it down to a track, and boom! I tried it with and without GPU acceleration enabled. I asked support if they have a published list of "known issues" so I don't waste time looking for my own work around. I haven't heard back yet, but it would be nice if a list of known bugs was kept in one spot. (Does anyone know if that exists?)

@Suvin111 I'll have to try using my tablet tonight to see if mine works without the software. That would be great! It's possible that the Bamboo software comes with a lot of bloatware that you really don't need, although I did try just installing the driver only. I'm also curious like @ushere as to what video card you have. So far, myself and one other person with this problem reported having ATI.

@BinaryCafe - I'm the one that has Vegas crashing when I enable the Bamboo driver. @ushere doesn't have the same problem for some reason, which is good for him! I'm glad it seems to be helping you so far. BTW, I do use two monitors all the time, with my ATI Radeon HD 5700 series video card. I plan on contacting Sony when I'm done with this project to find a long term solution. Based on what @ushere says, I'd like to try to use my tablet as part of my Vegas workflow.

@ushere Interesting, I have the cth-470 which apparently uses the same driver as the cth-661. I actually have the latest 5.2.5-5a(RC) Bamboo driver installed. I couldn't find your older 5.2.5-5 on the Wacom website, but they had 5.2.4-5. I tried that and Vegas immediately started crashing again. Uninstalling the driver fixes it for me. I don't get it... It's a good thing I'm not in a rush to use my tablet! I'm just curious. Is yours not crashing at all, or is it just that you can't consistently replicate a crash?

@ushere Do you know what version of Wacom driver you have? Go to Control Panel, Device Manager, then open the Human Interface Devices. Double-click on Wacom Virtual Hid Driver, then click on the Driver tab. Mine is version 2.9.2.4. I found that I don't even need to uninstall it. I just disable it and then Vegas works all day. I've been editing and rendering for almost 8 hours straight with no crashes today. As soon as I enabled the driver and restarted Vegas, it crashed within a few clicks. And I can follow the sequence I described earlier to replicate it again. Very strange... I'm on 64bit Windows 7 by the way.

Vegas 11 is CRASH HAPPY
I finally figured out what was causing Vegas Pro 11 to constantly crash on my PC. It's been rock solid now for over a week, during my last week of my trial period! I'm an IT person and by no means a video pro; I'm using this for my son's hockey team banquet video, which has turned into a complex project. I am somewhat new to Sony Vegas Pro, but have played around with it in the past. I have a high-end 6 Core PC, 8G RAM, with a pretty good GPU capable ATI video card. I updated all the drivers and NOTHING fixed my constant crashes. I even uninstalled my ATI driver and used the default VGA driver with the same results, so I knew it wasn't the ATI driver. The problem for me was a conflict with my Bamboo Tablet driver. I uninstalled all my Bamboo products, and now everything works great! I re-installed it and it started crashing again immediately. Unbelievable. After 3 weeks of fighting this thing. I was able to replicate this problem over and over again not only on my PC, but also on a virtual machine. (This is software that simulates PC hardware and lets you create a "virtual" Windows 7 computer, making it great for testing.) Here is one of the many ways I can easily re-create the crash while I have the Bamboo Tablet driver installed: 1. Open a new project. (I left everything default from a fresh install of Vegas Pro) 2. From the Media Generators tab, select "Drop Split" from the Titles & Text section and insert it on the timeline, and close the settings. (Leave the defaults) 3. Open and close the "Generated Media" settings for that event on the timeline about 3 times and Vegas crashes every single time. (I click on the little film strip icon on the event.) I was working off of the 30 day eval with the constant crashes, but I bought it anyway because it was running clean in my virtual machine. (I didn't have the Bamboo Driver installed there, which is why it didn't crash.) I wanted to reply to this thread last week, but I couldn't until my purchased serial number arrived. I don't need my tablet to get me through this project, but eventually I will need to work with Sony and/or Bamboo to find fix so that they can coexist. This is a lot of cash to spend on something I will only use occasionally, and I want to make sure it works! (Unfortunately, Movie Studio didn't give me enough tracks for my project. so I had to go to the Pro version...sad!) One other note, I have not installed the NewBlueFX Titler Pro yet, but I wonder if this would fix problems people are having with that as well. I noticed a lot of people blaming the new titler for the crashes.
