Best monitor for video editing
I've been using 43" 4K HDR smart TV's lately as my monitor for all my work. My current Samsung Q60R has been spectacular. It's a bit more expensive than your budget, but my other is a Sony Bravia 43" 4K HDR as well and it was about $500 and again, would never go back to a regular monitor. Just make sure it's one of the top rated ones for using as a computer monitor and does 4.4.4 color via HDMI. This is also assuming you have a relatively modern video card, like a 1050Ti or higher to drive it. Cheers, Pete

Where are you guys getting an option to render mainconcept? I only see that option as mpeg-1 and mpeg-2, none of which allow for 4K of any kind. My VP16 doesn't even use gpu acceleration for MC MPEG-2 much less VCE on my Radeon VII. Just curious as the where that is coming from. Cheers, Pete

6K video H265 on the time line
I have a GH5 and shoot 3:2 ratio '6K' quite often for wildlife and find it to be the best recording format the GH5 has. I'm assuming the G9 has the same. You can set your cam to either 4:3 ratio or 3:2 ratio in the photo menu. This carries over to 6k recording. The 3:2 is wider (over 5000 pixels wide) and I find it to be much better fit to output 16:9 in either 1080 or 4K. Just my preference though. As for editing, your specs on your computer don't show what graphics card you have. If it's just the onboard video, I'd highly recommend getting a dedicated gtx 1050ti or better video card and allowing hardware acceleration in Vegas Pro. It will halve or quarter your render times for 4K output from a dedicated on the mobo video setup if that's what you happen to have. My home editing station is an i7 3770 and an gtx 1050ti. It takes roughly 4 times real time to render 6K stock to Magix AVC 4K output at vbr 24mbps average and 48mbps peak quality. It's an epic image on my 43" HDR 4K TV I use exclusively now as a monitor !!! For reference my work machine is a new Threadripper 1950x cpu and Radeon VII video card. It renders the same 6K source to 4K in faster than real time or about 85% of real time. GPU acceleration really can make a huge difference. Cheers, Pete

AMD 1950X Threadripper / Radeon VII - improving performance ???
New X399 chipset drivers 1.07.07.0725 and Radeon Adrenalin 2019 19.7.1 just came out over the weekend. The new Radeon driver didn't change anything, but the chipset drivers solved my lower UserBenchmark scores and brought it up to 147% from the 130% my Radeon VII was running at. The lastest Vegas 16 sample project render went from 45 to 37 seconds !!! Finally feel like this thing is performing as it should. Just thought if anyone came across this post and had an X399 mobo with a Radeon VII they would see to go get the latest chipset and video drivers to get their Radeon VII slaying. Cheers, Pete

Stuck in 4K60 rendering hell? Here are some tips
I tried rendering a 4K two cam project with two audio sources all mixed. I rendered it originally as an HD 30p file to upload. Worked great. Have rendered a number of 4K UHD 30p pieces with not a single hang, so I thought I'd try 4K 60p and see. Sure enough it hung at about 16 mins in of an 1 hour 51 min project. My system is a dual SSD, X399 mobo, 32 gigs DDR4 ram, TR1950X, Radeon 7 machine. There's definitely an issue with Vegas 16 b424 rendering long in 4K 60p Thanks for the heads up @Quindor Cheers, Pete

Looking for new software
Not to be a negative nanny or anything, but NO ONE will ever want to watch and hour long ride. I went down the exact road you are researching about 8 years ago. Put BD burner in my first gen i7 machine and got exactly one person to ever put one in a blu-ray player. Now days no one even owns one. The best gift you can give your friends and yourself from your rides is to edit it down to one or two songs. Cut it up to the highlights of each ride and blend the audio in an out from the gopro and music track with 'insert audio envelope - volume' to which ever is more pertinent at the time. Then put it on youtube. Years later they will be asking for the links to watch it again. You keep the original and final mp4's on external hard drives, but from there if you can get anyone else to watch anything on a phone or tablet much less a big screen you're lucky. Movie Studio Platinum is a fantastic tool for doing this and creates great quality video and audio for your projects. Again sorry for raining on your parade, but even your very best friends who are in the video have a hard time getting into it as a general rule. Cheers, Pete

I have the same issue with my x399 mobo, threadripper 1950x and Radeon VII. There is something wrong with the drivers and Vegas at this point for the Radeon VII. I had my system get to 31 seconds at one point but is now at 36 seconds on the red car render with mp4 AMD VCE Most of the time when rendering Vegas Pro 16 is not using the gpu. It says it's at 76-85% gpu usage but the speed it only averaging 90 mhz out of a possible 1800 mhz available. Temps on the gpu are in the 40's Vegas just isn't hitting the card at all for some reason. Cheers, Pete

I tried 'allow legacy GPU rendering' on and off with the Red Car project and it didn't do anything. I then turned off the Vegas Color Curves and Vegas Saturation Adjust in my 4K project. Again there was no time difference between on and off. Definitely appears that some of the Vegas effects are where this 'allow legacy GPU rendering' helps. Cheers, Pete

I have a 1:52 length 4K project that renders in 1:21 with Magix AVC mp4 VCE with 'allow legacy GPU rendering' checked and 1:54 with it unchecked. The only content in my project is Lumix S1 4K 30p footage, vegas color curves and vegas saturation adjust.

QSV on AMD CPU? Not sure if this is somehow possible at all. That's what I thought too, but when I turn that on or off in the preferences my render times change even though I'm using Magix MP4 VCE. Thus the reason for this post. I have IntelQSV rendering available in HEVC only, but I'm not using that. Just the Magix MP4 VCE variants for all my best times. Now a lame 36 seconds on the Red Car project using VCE with GPU and QSV acceleration enabled in the options. In my latest clean install of everything to an m.2 ssd, I used the AMD x399 chipset drivers from AMD. Then ran the 19.5.1 Radeon drivers after that and it's slower all the way around though still dead stable and perfectly clean renders. I dug through all the Userbenchmark tests with an x399 chipset and the Radeon VII. All tests only show at best 135% relative performance for the 7. All the 148-165% relative performance scores are coming from ryzen 7, i7 and i9 cpu mobo combo's. Definitely is an X399 / Radeon VII driver problem it appears. Still curious on the QSV AMD thing. Seems like a strange behavior. Cheers, Pete

I'm just whining about the relative performance of my 7 vs others in virtually every test I've done. My red car render is now at 36 seconds with the latest 19.5.1 drivers. It still is rendering 4K with multiple effects faster than real time. My older i73770 gtx1050ti was about 4x real time in my 4K pipeline so it's great, but not what I believe it should be. The QSV encoding thing was an interesting find and not sure how it is being used on an all AMD machine. Cheers, Pete

Thanks Chief24 Good to hear it's not just my gpu card that is a little slower at this point. Which mobo and chipset drivers are you running? Just as fifonik said above, I too now am hoping it's just a combo between the chipset and gpu drivers that isn't quite right yet. I have the AMD 18.50.0422 chipset drivers for the x399 tr4 board with the 19.4.3 for the Radeon VII. My box is running oc'd at 3.9ghz and 1.225volts perfectly stable. Rendering AMD VCE even in 4K barely hits the gpu ghz and memory speed. The fan never goes up hardly. I've only seen one little tiny piece of the UserBenchmark test that hits the card all the way to 1800 on the gpu and 1000 on the memory. That little piece of the test takes the VII temp up to 100c so I know this thing will go there. I have a new Lumix S1 and it's 4K image is amazing. My timeline performance with curves and saturation fx applied to it, is nearly perfectly smooth even at Best (Full). If all these drivers get sorted and VP16 can take advantage of them, this new box could be a monster. I'm a little more encouraged knowing it might not be my card that is bad. Now I have a little more confidence and can get back to trying to tell stories instead of messing with new gear, though I have alot of that recently :) Cheers, Pete

Thanks fifonik Tried all the different to-and-from combinations of my drives. All give 33 - 34 seconds. I don't think it's just 'too new' of drivers though as I'm getting super low scores on some of the free benchmarks for the R VII while all my other pieces-parts seem to be performing above expectations. Cheers, Pete I think something is not right with GPU drivers for your too new graphic card or with VCE encoder implementation. When I did tests with red car I noticed than even when I allow Vegas to use only 1 (one) thread of my Ryzen 2600 - the render performance was the same (21 secs with RX 470 and Magix AVC VCE, preview performance dropped noticeable). So CPU is not limiting factor for the project (it is probably too simple). P.S. The only thing I can recommend you to check - SATA drivers and if source drive is not the same as target drive. Otherwise it is possible that you drive is bottleneck. Sorry if it was already mentioned, I have not checked carefully all the discussion.

Any suggestions on how to trouble shoot these sorts of things? I ran UserBenchmark speed tests and it shows all the other components in my system to be at or above average speed for each component except the video card. It's at the bottom of tests they have for the radeon VII. Just struggling to find anything online as to how to see what piece of things is dragging it down. Cheers, Pete

GPU Card Performance Testing with Vegas Pro
I have a 1950x threadripper, radeon 7 box I just built up and it's not in the ball park. 33 sec is the fastest red car test I've gotten with every driver and version of vp16 I can try out. It's head and shoulders above my older intel nvidia machine, but nothing like these numbers folks are posting here. Cheers, Pete

Thanks for the responses! I plan to use the 4K and 1080 Magix VCE flavor in 30p for everything now. Got 40 seconds on the red car and 5:48 on my 4K project with the Magix NVENC with the old stock 3770K 1050ti machine. The AMD machine is 33 and 3:15 for the same exact projects. Didn't think the drives made any difference as I can use a passport drive on usb 2.0 and it didn't change the times at all. I thought memory would help, but also don't think it gets me to the 20 second range much less in the teens with the red car test. Haven't tried any settings in either the Radeon utilities or vegas pro 16 yet. If there's anything there I might be missing, let me know. Don't get me wrong, I'm stoked I'm getting smooth timeline playback in my 4K projects with vegas fx running at Best (full) display setting !!! Just think there's something I'm missing at double the red car times of similar systems I've seen on here. Cheers, Pete
