audio peaking after inserting onto timeline
Is the content stereo or mono? Does the wave form drawn for the audio indicate any clips? You may want to check the pan model being used on the track. Set it to constant power or 0db. Peter

Project won't open
Another thing to try. Move the media for this project to a new directory that is no where near the original location (or rename the folder it is in.) Then try to load the project. Vegas should load the project and indicate missing media. Then - as painful as it is, start to put the media back or link them back one at a time. Peter

"Great but why would I want to put clips from Camera 1 and Camera 2 on the one track?" You don't have to. The video presents a single example of the workflow. Just like in Vegas, there are many ways to achieve results in Edit. The prep work in Prepare will still work - and you don't have to do the prep work in prepare. You would have two - or as many tracks as you want to - that would get the same audio channel mappings, all routed to the correct (default) destinations. A consistent starting point if you will. You can then changes things up as desired. Also, Edit has the ability to change the channel assignments per clip to match up different camera set ups. You don't have to use prepare first. The big difference is that each clip would have to be manually edited. If you prep all of your clips first in Prepare, you never have to think about it - unless you want to change something per clip. For many users, Prepare and Edit solves a big problem in their workflow and pipeline. Peter

Vegas Pro and the Microsoft Surface 3 ?
@JohnnyRoy Surface 3 uses the Atom Cherry Trail. Surface 3 runs Windows (64 bit), not WinRT. 4 gb mem is max. Vegas will run, but don't expect much. Peter

Perhaps you mean Rimas Buinevicius. Rimas was not a developer. He was the CEO. Never wrote code, and Vegas was not his idea or baby. That would have been Curt Palmer, one of the founders of Sonic. He was always very positive about Sony and the direction we were going in. Sadly Curt passed sometime back. He was a great engineer and person. I think he would be very proud of the legacy and products he planted the foundation for. Peter

Geoff explained the best approach. There are drivers you can get that will let you record the output of the Kontakt in stand alone mode into Vegas. Here is one such solution: http://vb-audio.pagesperso-orange.fr/Cable/index.htm The other option is if you sound card has a output to input routing done internally. It is sometimes called "record what you hear" on some devices. The downside of these solutions is that you have to share or use two audio devices to achieve what you want. It also can have very high latencies, which would be difficult to record with. The other option is to connect your Kontakt audio device output into the input of a secondary device. If there these two devices have a digital output and input that would be the best, but analog output to input would work as well. It would be like pluging the output of a keyboard (or guitar amp, microphone into your recording device. Peter

a. audio track header has vertical red line to left? You have external control enabled and a device set up most likely. This red line indicates that this track is currently under control of an external control device. Peter

I now believe those people who said that what I wanted was impossible. No, it is not impossible. You have to learn how the tools work and how audio is "mixed" Vegas provides many different workflows to solve the problems you have. Many of the users here have provided alternative as starting points. There is not magic easy button to make it just happen. We also don't know exactly how you are setting up your project, specifically your audio. Are you using multiple tracks of audio or just one? Have you deternined which audio events/files are too loud? Are the music and other audio in a single file/event or are you using multiple audio files ? If the different parts of the audio are in a single audio file, then trying to change the levels of this already mixed audio is like trying to un-bake a cake. (We do have a tool that can help you: Spectral layers, but it requires an understanding of audio frequency content as it relates to audio.) All of these play into the solution. if you can provide some more details on the exact files/media you have in your project and how you have constructed your project, I am sure that many here will be able to lead you in the right direction, However, there is a learning curve here that no amount of advice will solve. Again, there is no easy button, though there are many simple techniques that can be learned and applied to help you solve your problems. Peter

Project Audio all slowed down for some reason
It is unlikely the sample rate of the project as Vegas resamples audio if needed if the project sample rate does not match the project setting. First thing I thought of was is the shuttle mode rate not being 1:1. The other possibility is that the audio hardware Vegas is using is also the system audio device. Some hardware will have its rate set by the system and no matter what Vegas sets it to, it will not actually change. To the OP: What audio hardware are you using? What audio device - and type - is Vegas set up to use? Are you using ASIO, Mapper, or Wave Classic device in Vegas. Peter

"Who else remembers Vegas Audio ?" I do! I do! I have it running on a VM of Windows NT - on my Mac Pro! I also have Forge 3.5 running on a VM Of Windows 95 - on my Mac Pro. For you Geoff: I have an old Dual Pentium Dell box, running Windows NT, Vegas, ACID 1.0, and my Multisound still smoking along. I even found a way to boot from a small 64 gb SSD. I have everything on that, including projects, and still have room to spare. Makes NT very snappy. I even have an old Dec Alpha running WinNT. We actually had versions of Forge, Vegas , and ACID that we build for these things.I dont think we ever released them...maybe Forge. I don't recal. Peter

Possible to adjust speakes and master separately?

And is not influenced by the position of the Master-slider. Maybe I shouild submit a feature requesy." The point of the master bus is to allow you to monitor what you would render. Having it send to an aux output so as to bypass all of its pre-fader gains is not the intent. I tried a few things, and the easiest work around is this: Mix to a sub bus instead of the master. (This will only work for stereo mixes, as Vegas does not have 5.1 sub buses.) Create a sub bus and label it pre-master. Route all of your tracks and/or stem mixes and AuxFX sends to it. This pre-master would still routed to the master bus. Create a second sub bus and route it to the hardware output you desire. You can then send from the pre-master bus to this hardware output bus - pre fader, but with the send gain controlling the output signal as well as the output bus to control the monitor gain. Your rendered mix is still the Master Bus. You can still monitor it by using the Cue Mix - A-B between it and the pre-master bus hardware send. Please submit a feature request. Peter

increase preview playback speed?
Next to the rate control, there is a small triangle. You can set this to a default value. When you play, the rate by default will use this value for playback. J-K-L is also a more controlled option to do it manually vs dragging the rate control. Peter
