Spot's Book Now Shipping

NAB...
Dave, et. al., Concur with your comments and am also appreciative to have had the opportunity to help out in the VASST booth at NAB. While there was lots of buzz about the new VASST products being released (Scatter-shot, Caption Assistant), right after the Final Cut Pro announcement of a $300 price point, I got a lot of questions at the booth from Vegas users about how that will affect the market and the future (I've noticed there is a thread or two on the forum about that also). Time will tell I guess but I'm confident that Vegas Pro will continue to grow and get better. Compared to past NAB's, this was one of the best to include the Vegas users party (over a thousand attendees). Looking forward to next year. Randy

Pre-wedding video dialog questions

Here's one that I'm pretty proud of: http://cr-home-videos.com/KodyAliciaLoveStory1MB.wmv (edited by my son Colton) . I've call them Romance videos and usually present them at the reception. Sometimes I interview them at the location and cut in them walking around and hugging etc. and sometimes I interview against a green screen and overlay on pictures of what they are talking about. Depends upon what they want and how much time they have. I usually always do as you said, interview separately asking them the same questions. Yeah, it can be fun but remember, you don't want them to look bad or to cause controversy so you will likely need to edit the parts that don't match well or if the groom says something like "well, at first I thought she was a trouble maker and not that cute" in response to "what was your first impression." That never goes over humorously ;-). Hope the samples help. Have fun with it. Randy

Sony Vegas Production Assistant 2
Very cool improvements. I especially like the assistance with making templates. Should have lots of good application for wedding videographers doing same day edits, romance vids, etc., by converting existing .veg files into templates and automatically loading media, applying effects/edits and rendering for presentation. Big time saver. Randy

OT - Turn Night Vision Into X-Ray Vision
Interesting Kelly. Wasn't aware of that. Actually, I wasn't thinking about the seeing through clothing part. It was the seeing through dyed plastic that the vid showed that peaked my interest. Thought it would make for cool intro's to "how to" vids. Guess my age is showing. Thanks, Randy

OT: Free song from VASST Adrenalize library
I had the opportunity to audition the Adrenalize library at NAB and am very impressed. This is a full collection of high energy, high quality songs and, they are all on one disk so I won't have to search and audition many songs to find the right cuts as I do on the DJ libraries. Photo montage software/plugins that you are using
"Did they update it to a standard windows GUI?" jrazz, Nope, still the same. Different to use but pretty easy once you learn it. It handles photos from files and displays them so you can easily rearange them very quickly. It edits/corrects photos easily also and you have a timeline option if you prefer to use that. There is definitely a learning curve for the interface. Also, you have to capture your show to the right format before you can use it in Vegas (or other programs). What appealed to me was the many animations that were available. Actually, my wife saw the story book running at a Wedding Expo and asked if I would get it. There are many templates. One that I liked was the photo's hanging on a clothes line and flapping in the wind like bed sheets while they traverse the screen in front of a garden backgrond. Sorry for the long answer. Randy

Photo montage software/plugins that you are using
While I use Vegas and Ultimate S almost exclusively, I have used 3d Album in the past with pretty good results. It has a lot of canned templates for movement that you can mix together with lots of flexibility for pictures, video, music, etc. It outputs to .avi other formats also. OT - Stand By Your Cam
Plasmavideo, AGrandt, et. Al., You're welcome and no, I don't remember any appologies. Was too busy being relieved...and then a bit...shall we say "frustrated". I felt like packing up the cam and would have if it wasn't a charity event and favor for a friend. Afterwards, I made a promise to myself to never put my equipment into that situation again. Could have been a lot harder lesson to have learned. So, now, I'm feeling grateful that it wasn't. Hope others can benefit also. Thanks for everyone sharing their experiences as I'm enjoying hearing about them also. Randy

Best sound boost other than envelopes?
Another trick to increase volume in addition to all of the others mentioned here is to pull that event's audio onto its own audio time line, raise the volume up all the way on that event using envelopes then go to the track header and push the gain there also. That got me what I needed on a low volume event. As for the Vegas 9 envelopes within region method, see Spot's VASST tip over on You Tube. There are a couple of new ones just posted about 10 days ago and one talks to this specifically. Hope that helps. Randy

I too can atest, having met the fair and modest Grazie at the BFI on the Thames for a couple of cold brews, and too was treated to his famed walking tour of the older pubs in London Town. training recommendations
I'm a fan of the VASST stuff at VASST.com. They have lots of training DVDs and their web site has lots of free tutorials also. There are also a lot of training videos on YouTube. Just search for VASST training or VASST Vegas Training. Hope that helps. Randy

Dale, Couple of ways to do it but the easy way is to get Motophoto from VASST at this link: http://www.vasst.com/index.php?page=shop.product_details&flypage=shop.flypage&product_id=129&category_id=9&option=com_virtuemart&Itemid=66 . It's included in Ultimate S. You can download and try before you buy. Or, if you prefer to do it yourself, you can use track motion to fly the pictures across the screen. Basically, you put a picture on the timeline, go to the track header and click on the track motion button (cursor should be at front of picture). Once the dialog box opens, click and drag the picture off the viewing screen (box representing where the picture was in the dialog box) to the left. Then go to the point on the timeline at the end of where your picture displays (event), position the cursor there, and again go to your picture and click/drag off to the right of the viewing screen this time. You should see two diamonds below your picture in the dialog box, one for where you started the picture and one for where you stopped (called keyframes). Note that the position of the keyframes in the track motion dialog box is relative to where the picture is for the whole timeline, not just that event in the dialog box like in pan/crop. Now close the dialog box (you should see two triangles on the timeline under your picture also), move your cursor to the front of the picture on the timeline and hit play. If you've done it right, the picture should fly across the screen. If so, play with sizing the picture (within the dialog box, click a corner and drag to the middle), different positions to start and finish, and/or change the direction in the middle. Now imagine doing that for 100s of pictures across several minutes of your timeline with pictures flying up, down, across, behind and in front of each other. That's what Motophoto can do in about 10 seconds (as fast as you can identify the pictures to select from your hard drive). Give it a try. It and the rest of Ultimate S is a huge time saver.
