Spinning circle for sports video
I know this is not exactly what you were looking for. (The Sports Center EFX has the animated circles applied horizontally underneath the player with Track Motion so that the circle follows the player similar to a video game.) But this is something that can be done relatively easily within Vegas without external plug-ins. and Thess videos were edited on-line at hudl.com. But something very similar can be done within Vegas.

" Monte88 OK. Apparently your unit did not ship with WinTv (for some reason the HD PVR's were not initially compatible with WinTV). Now they are compatible with WinTV v7.2 (I use WinTV v6). According the their site, you can purchase the WinTV v7.2 installation disc for $9.95. http://www.hauppauge.com/site/products/data_hdpvr.html (Click on the "3rd Party Apps" tab). There's also a link to "NextPVR" which is a free download. I've never tried that...I don't know anything about it. Sometimes "free" = good. Sometimes that old adage applies..."You get what you pay for". It looks like you have a temporary solution by using your "Pani" as a pass through. The 110 converter seems to be the solution that provides the easiest way of getting your tapes into Vegas. As was mentioned earlier, in the end, you're going to have a bunch of files in a folder whether you capture with Vegas or something like WinTV7. Capturing with Vegas gives you a couple of advantages: 1) Vegas is already open. 2) If you go with the Grass Valley 110, you'll have better hardware. Although, I'm not sure the difference will be noticeable considering the source is S-Video VHS.

"...I am not sure if I was clear in the original post... Your OP was clear except for one detail. What is the name and model number of your Hauppauge DV PVR? Depending on the model you have, the above mentioned hardware alternatives may or may not provide better digital conversion. I have two different Hauppauge devices (HVR-1850 & PVR-250) and both of them came with a version of their WIN TV capture software. WIN TV works fine with my devices. You mentioned having problems with ArcSoft Sofrware. I believe that is a free accessory found on your WIN TV installation disc. I've never bothered with that. Have you tried using WIN TV? I would try WIN TV before purchasing anything else. You have to set it up to read the RCA inputs instead of the TV Tuner. Then you can select your capture bit rate.

You're right. From the Womble web page "It supports all MPEG-1 and MPEG-2 bit streams, including MPEG-2 Transport streams for HDTV." It works well for VHS transfers. I like it because it is easy, quick and cheap.

"Vegas capture officially supports firewire only, not USB." Not only that, AFAIK, Vegas doesn't support any of Hauppauge's PCI/PCIe cards either (for video capture). I have the HVR-1850 and I just use the included WIN-TV capture software. For quick editing and/or stream error clean-up I use MPEG VCR ($19.00) by Womble. http://www.womble.com/products/vcr.html Also, VideoRedo ($49.99), as suggested by musicvid10 is probably more popular.

TOT: the game
Reports from ESPN radio say that yesterday's game was the most watched Super Bowl ever. Don't know if that's true or not but I suspect that the final score caused many people lose their wager. No one expected a 35 point blow-out. It was the 3rd largest winning margin in Super Bowl history. I found the game to be very entertaining. The half-time show was pretty good too. They always bring in Top-Notch Pop acts but I would prefer to see Herbie Hancock or Wayne Shorter or maybe Djavan.

OT: GoPro Space Jump Video - Incredible
musicvid10, I remember this. It was a big deal at that time. The Science Channel and Discovery Channel ran adds promoting this jump. On the day of the jump, they pre-empted other programming to broadcast the jump as as Live event. Those channels rarely do Live broadcasts. Of course I watched the live show (being a science nerd & retired technocrat). IIRC, the live broadcast showed different footage than the YouTube video you posted. Of course, the footage I saw would have had to have come from cameras connected to an up-link transmitter for live broadcast.

OT: Dave Brubeck, gone a day before 92
Dave Brubeck was a: Great musician, Great song writer, Great artist/performer/band leader, Great father, and Great all around human being. An example of the latter was shown during his service in the US Army during WWII. He was allowed/ordered to assemble a jazz ensemble to entertain the troops. When the military brass saw that he had a black guy in his band, they told him to "get rid of the negro" because it violates the Army's strict racial segregation policy. He said, "OK"..."if I can't hire the musicians I need for my band, then I just won't play". "I don't care what race he is...I need the best musicians I can get...and besides, he's good friend of mine". The army brass finally relented and allowed him to keep his band intact. His band was the first racially integrated popular music ensemble in the Army during the war. The great irony of World War II was the stated claim of the US Government that we were "Fighting the War For Freedom and Democracy". Back home, america's black population (of approximately 15 million people) enjoyed very little freedom and virtually no democracy. Also, while we were conducting the war, our official policy for all branches of the military was Strict Racial Segregation. "Fighting for Freedom and Democracy"? Well, that fight continued at home long after the war. Yes, Dave Brubeck was a Great Human Being.

Stop Motion/Freeze Frame
Bob H, I own VMS HD Platinum 10 and it does not have "Velocity Envelopes". It only has envelopes for "Track Composite Level" and "Track Fade to Color". If VMS Plat 11 contains Velocity Envelopes then creating the "Freeze Frame" effect is easy. If it doesn't, then the second method suggested by Chienworks above is the only way to do it. I've done it that way for the past two years making High School Football highlight videos for my nehpew. It takes a little longer to insert each "Freeze" but it works very well. Below is a quick YouTube tutorial covering the subject: ] One thing not covered in this tutorial was to change your Preview quality to "Best Full" before you save the snapshot to file, as Chienworks mentioned above. This allows your "Frozen" frame to closer to the quality of the moving frames surrounding it. You can find helpful Tutorials on YouTube covering many Vegas related subjects.

No REX support?
"...There are VST plugins that do REX and REX2 and that you could use in Vegas or Acid..." No. Not VST's...VSTI's. In this case it would have to be some kind of soft-sampler such as Kontakt, Halion, or whatever. But then it can be used only in ACID. VEGAS doesn't support VSTI's.

"...You mean like . . . legally? REX is not a plug-in. It is an audio file format created in a standalone program called "Recycle!" Yes, you can import REX files in certain VSTI soft-samplers but REX is not a plug-in....its an audio file formatted with selectable beat segments. I bought Recycle! version 1 back in the 1990's. Back then, before I owned a computer DAW (I had a Fostex 8 track & a Roland VS-880) I would process many of my drum loops in Recycle! (Recycle! would then export the "chopped-up" drum loop as a REX file AND an associated MIDI file). I would then import the REX file into my hardware sampler (AKAI S2000) and import the associated MIDI file into my sequencer (Cubase VST 5.1). Then the MIDI file would be used to manipulate the REX file in exciting ways to change the groove around (not just simply changing the tempo). Back then, Recycle! was the best groove manipulation tool around. The EMU EmulatorX2 & X3 samplers with "Twist-a-Loop" does that (plus a lot more) all in one package. Nowdays, all the modern DAWs (except ACID) allows the direct importation of REX files. Another area where Sony is missing the boat. "...Rex slicing doesn't sound anywhere near as good as Vegas's "elastique" time stretch/compress..." I don't know about that, but as explained above, REX allows much greater "groove manipulation" than what is available with elastique. Also, I believe REX files will accept greater tempo changes without artifacts. I really don't think its fair to compare the two. Yeah, they both do time compression/expansion. In that regard there is a similarity but Recycle!/REX does much more. I think of Recycle!/REX as a groove manipulation tool.

No sound after rendering to .avc to Architect 5
"...I'm sure i'm missing something - but can't see what it is..." The same thing happened to me. Then, I found out that I didn't check the box for "Include Audio Stream". Once I did that, the audio was added. So, Renders As -> Save as type: (your choice) -> Template: (DVD Architect or Blu-ray) -> Custom: Select the "Audio Tab" at the bottom -> Check the box for "Include audio stream" -> Click OK. That should do it.

Any advise on our latest video?
"The customer didn't seem to mind the reverb..." I think the reverb is cool. The way you composed the video, it can be viewed/"taken" in two ways: 1) As an advertisement announced at the event over the event P.A. system, or 2) As as a standard TV commercial. Since you started with the shot of a live event, the reverb gave the impression/"feel" that the ad was being announced at that event and shown on the big screen. So my 'put is, the reverb was added as a result of your attempt to be creative; don't lose that creativity...keep experimenting. Push the envelope but be sure to satisfy you customer as you seem to have done.

"Does the "Web Optimized" check box in HandBrake completely cover the index issue?" Cool. I'm getting into the HandBrake methodology but the last time I used it, I forgot to check the "Web Optimized" box. (I didn't realize how important it was). Help with optimising a DVD project.
"The expanding concentric circles for mouse clicks is part of the Camtasia Recorder feature which can be enabled when doing screen recording. I was looking for an easy way to add animated highlight indications for football/sports highlight videos. Simple animations via keyframing in Vegas is relatively easy but something complex like expanding concentric circles would be very time cosuming in Vegas. Guess I'll keep looking. Thanks.

When you say "good", of course that's a relative term. For some applications, the Stabilizer in Vegas works OK for me. For other situations, the zoom percentage is too great & there aren't any adjustment controls for that; just a few presets to select from.

Installation problem
"I can now copy my project onto the time line but only when the camera is connected as soon as I disconnect the camera I lose everything even when I have 'saved as' what am I doing wrong? It sounds like your are "running" your project from the clips/files still located on your camera. If that is true, then you simply need to: 1) Using Windows IE, Copy your clips/files from your camera to your harddrive. 2) In VMS, Import your files from your harddrive into your project.

how to get Vegas to NOT reencode split Mpeg2 ?
"If you are just interested in splitting, trimming, and joining MPEG-2 video without recompression, VideoRedo Plus is designed for just this purpose. Will also demux to native elementary streams if you wish. That's true. For editing my PVR mpeg2's I use something called MPEG-VCR from Womble. http://www.womble.com It also has MUX-DEMUX capabilities as well. It's very quick & easy to use and only cost $19 US (software download). I mainly use it to zap commercials from the shows I PVR. Occasionally the video of a TV show will be slightly out of sync with the dialog so I use MPEG-VCR to re-align things. Its a pretty handy little tool. Not to derail the thread but I wanted to mention that I got a kick out the background music on that demo/test you put up on Vimeo (the peacock video). Isn't that one of Bach's Brandenburg Concertos?
